I listened to 3 songs... its shit. Generic idol shit, but with 12 or 16 mostly cute girls, used to hide how crappy they are. To hide lack-of-talent, you raise the number of singers. That is why there are boy bands with 3-5 guys singing.

Idols = Same shit, different year.

The election determine the amount of promotion the girl would get. The higher the rank, the more TV appearances, dramas, magazine appearance they would get so it would increase the girl's popularity. It doesn't mean all fans have the money to vote 1700 times.
