As someone who works for a US school district, yes, teachers DO get fired all the time. Often at the drop of a hat with little or no actual evidence of wrongdoing. ESPECIALLY when it’s a sexual matter involving a student.

All it takes is to be ACCUSED of sexual misconduct and the district will kick you out on your ass immediately just to avoid looking complicit. Many unscrupulous students have taken advantage of this to get teachers they don’t like in trouble, with little or no consequences to themselves.

But by all means, let’s just gobble up the right-wing bullshit that US teachers are over-paid, over-privileged and over-protected, instead of the reality, which is that they’re under-paid, over-worked and constantly under threat of losing their jobs.
