people who haven't read the manga really wouldn't know just how dark the series actually is. so far this is the best depiction of the lupin the third series.
Well, people are also probably confused about the comparisons this Lupin gets if they haven't been watching it.
It's been called everything from an ecchi show to comparisons to Bebop.
Seems like people don't know what to classify it sometimes, lol.
Great example of just how dark the original manga is. Verbatim quote from Arsene Lupin II to Arsene Lupin III, "There's only one right way to rape a blonde"
I do agree.
However, I also believe that many long-time fans have come to expect the animated version to be more "family-friendly" if you will. Many of those people have never read the original manga and now they are left wondering why this is so very "family-unfriendly".
My problem is with the idiotic Fujiko backstory. Making one of my favorite sexy anime femme fetale into a child rape victim for a weird owl cult just pisses me off, it totally ruins her strong and confident character. And the only reason Lupin III became as popular as it did was because of the original and memorable animes and films, if not for them it would've just fallen into obscurity and only remaining popular amongst die hard manga otakus...
I don't understand why people are complaining about the nudity and sex in this anime, I mean it's not even that big of a deal compared to some other shit that gets released these days, like Queen's Blade. It's Fujiko for christ's sakes she's always been a slut.
the series has improved a lot in this past episodes. my only complaint was ep 3 which was a bit borig. but since then it has become a roller coaster of a ride.
i also like how the style evokes the work of Guido Crepax.
This episode clearly quotes "Midori", "Kanashimi no Belladonna" and maybe some other classics.
I've loved all the Lupin animations and this one is no exception, and it's a fantastic breath of fresh air.

Not you either it seems, this has gone too far in the opposite direction of the 'tame' adaptations. Series 1 is still the closest to the manga.

Meh, this is more about the material and the preservation of the original art style from the manga than the flashy art styles of modern day anime. I guess you could say it's a bit of a cultural throwback?
Conclusion: Sexual stimulating elements(include some moe) is the way for anime to get easy ratings now. You know this when a classic like Lupin is starting to use it too.
I guess Detective Conan loli harem and Doraemon(though in the early parts it did have nudity with shizuka) and what are next??

You do know Castle of Cagliostro is the farthest rendition of Lupin III there is right? It's even written by Hayao Miyazaki.
Cagliostro dont have the spirit of the original Monkey Punch manga.

You, my sir, are absolutely wrong. The most important thing is ENTERTAINMENT VALUE. Whether it comes from a good story, fanservice, comedy, etc... An Anime is good as long as it can ENTERTAIN.
Story is 75%, graphics is 25%.
In this case, I have a friend that just can't get enough of this series and he has a flare for good stuff.
And I wouldn't call the artwork here disgusting. It's inspired from the original series and looked for the sense of nostalgia. If you are a newcomer to the series, it may indeed appear strange, but just because it uses another style doesn't mean that it's disgusting. ;)

Lupin was created in the sixties, and it very much keeps the styles and sensibilities thereof.
I don't care for the art style either, but I've always found Fujiko to be very Moe.
