Just look at AKB48. Their advertisements are all over mainstream avenues like train stations and subways these days, and they’re a band of girls as young as 12 aimed at salarymen in their 30s and 40s, that somehow also became popular with 12 year old girls and 80 year old grandmas.

Singers like Mizuki really just don’t belong anywhere in modern Japan.
