Microsoft Bundles Visual Studio with Moe Claudia Figure

Microsoft is bundling a free copy of Visual Studio 2010 Professional with MSDN together with its ¥173,250 Claudia figure – or as Microsoft would have it, buyers of their VS2010 bundle also get a charming figure of Azure mascot Claudia Madobe.
The limited edition Claudia figure will stand 15-20cm high, is made of PVC/resin as with similar bishoujo figures, each is individually numbered, and orders close at the end of June.
No pictures of the figure have been released, but given its price and the temperament of fans, if Microsoft is sensitive to their needs it will doubtless be a high quality effort (to say nothing of the fact Microsoft staff themselves seem to love their charming moe mascots).
Some junk goods (bags, umbrellas, a bicycle) are also being raffled off with the package, but buyers are guaranteed their figure.
For those not familiar with her, Claudia Madobe (“Cloud Girl”) is Microsoft’s official anthropomorphisation/mascot character for its Azure “cloud” computing platform, the half-American sister character to the rather successful and undeniably appealing Windows 7 mascot Nanami Madobe.
Her first appearance was in her own manga series explaining the advantages of the Azure platform to inferior competing cloud computing environments or the archaic practice of running physical servers, which should tell anyone all they need to know about Japanese developers.
Claudia and Nanami have also been joined by Microsoft Taiwan’s enthusiastically deployed Silverlight mascot Hikaru.
Claudia is perhaps alone in actually being more famous online than the product she represents, now boasting her own portfolio of manga, wallpapers, and even calendars:
Online, the figure had rather more impact than the software, leading otaku to the understandable conclusion that Microsoft was selling a “¥170,000 figure of Claudia” and even causing some of her more ardent fans to wonder if they would be kind enough to leave out the useless software bundled with it…

The VS software is great, best I've used anyway.
I think it's a great idea for Microsoft to use anime mascots. I only wish more US companies would jump on the bandwagon.
I personally think Claudia is hot in that Librarian sort of way. Hell, I'd bone her!
I already have VS 2010 for years now, why are they doing it now when there is already VS 2011 Beta?
Hmm, even stranger is the fact that the bundle is advertised along VS11. Wonder what they're trying to accomplish here.
Either way, I don't like VS very much (and having to download an English version afterwards anyway is a hassle), so importing it for the figure is out of the question. Maybe if they also bundled a GNU autotools integration to make it more useful...
Soon... there will be transparent clothes version!! :)
VS 2011 is useless. It only works on Windows 8 and it cannot make desktop applications.
You are spectacularly ignorant, and should probably keep quiet when in the presence of adults.
None Programmers don't understand this obviously...
Well I got VS2010 for free since the University I'm studying at is part of MSDNAA. Too bad Software downloads don't come with the figure. D:
Looks like Android #18
Yes, she also look like Ms Clinton from the Obama manga.
You mean hentai doujinshi?
There's an OBAMA MANGA?!
WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE?!
#34
2-d Pig Disgusting!!
Whew. i'm glad i wasn't the only one that got 18 vibes from her.
LOL I was thinking the same thing
I thought the same thing.
Android 18 got all business professional.
Sadly she's not as cute as Madobe Nanami
...in the eye of the beholder.
Jail-bait != Cute
Android 18 gained weight!
Is Claudia Madobe voiced by Android 18's voice-actress?
Claudia is voiced by Eri Kitamura.
..starts imagining the system went nuts and suddenly you can hear the laughter and voice of Kagari (Black Rock Shooter TV) going batshit..
you took the letters right out of my fingertips....
Too bad it isn't a vim, and is designed for writing non cross-platform code so it's useless.
When was the last time you saw someone use vim on M$ technologies?
Or at all, with the advent of better editors?
using VIM everyday along with other editors
I don't think I've seen a Windows computer for few years. Hopefully it stays that way.
besides you have MONO too.
Non-cross platforms? Please, are you living in this world or on Mars with aliens?
And what about WCF? Are you saying that this is also crap?
Look kiddy, ignorance is a sin even more when dealing with the Linux developers.
@ anon 07:48
Mono is not a hack. Stop talking out of your ass if you don't have any knowledge about it besides Microsoft fanboy hearsay.
Windows isn't so bad. It makes a great glorified game launcher when you get sick of WINE hacks.
I just love to read comments of such show-offs. Please grow up.
@04:48
Mono is a hack, WCF is crap.
Bah, heretic! May lord Emacs smite thee!
C-x C-s
The only true cross-platform code is web code. Which you can write in Visual Studio. Also, apparently you never heard of Mono, and so should probably keep your mouth shut rather than talk about things you know nothing of.
Cross-platform does not mean platform-independent. From its project management and build system to the runtime libraries and Microsoft's questionable language extensions, the C/C++ part of Visual Studio is intentionally designed with unportability in mind. Sure, you can write portable code in VS, but only if you work against the IDE and its workflow.
Also, Microsoft created .NET to bind developers and consumers to their infrastructure. Mono is simply something that fortunately happened, but it certainly wouldn't have if Microsoft had had their way.
At the current exchange rate, ¥173,255 yen is $2,181.78. Uhm...no. Not buying that much software just to get a figure.
Is there a way to buy the figure seperate from the software? I don't need VS11, Win8, Azure, and SQL Server 2012 (in Japanese, no less).
When I see Hikaru, I'm sad to think that Silverlight is a stillborn product. It's a bit like watching a home video of someone who just died.
That said, I see neither a reason to install it, or develop for it. The first because very few websites need it, the latter because everything I'd want to do with it I can do with tech with a broader install base.
actually, the only sites I've actually seen that require it are..... MS sites... and they go slow as shit.
as smithers once said "i want it, i want it, i want it" the figure not the software
And as I said "LAME, lame, lame" .
for you, a minority.
A minority that probably writes most of the programs you're using every day.
Smithers did not write the code of Windows and Mozila Firefox.
coding in the visual line of languages, fapping on dolls, i can see the correlation.
I demand this be added to MSDN Academic Alliance so I can buy it for 0.00 EUR like I did with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. Guess that won't work :P
Yeah it doesn't. I tried that already.
n-no windows7-kun, not there, t-that´s the wrong port ~ahn <3
that mascot is hawt. But sadly, the software is really sucks.
Well, I just go for the figure itself if I buy VS2010.
Visual Studio is pretty much the best IDE out there. I use it every day.
vi is the bone of my sword.
UNIX is my body, and C is my blood.
I have clustered over a thousand Blades.
Unknown to BSOD,
nor known to GUIs.
Have withstood pain to create many Daemons.
Yet, those hands will never hold an IDE.
So, as I pray,
Unlimited Make Works.
I doubt you have used anything else.
There is no way to take Visual Studio serious as a development tool as long as MS is too retarded to manage implementing even the most basic of C++11 features. Seriously, Eclipse has pretty much all new syntactic features integrated since 2010, and Visual Studio still doesn't even know variadic templates or range-based for.
I doubt you even used it. It's fucking amazing.
Like what? What else is even comparable to Visual Studio? Eclipse? LOL.
VS is the best IDE by far. It has its flaws but everything else is just crap compared to it. And some IDEs like Eclipse are so laughably bad its not even a competition.
oh i do love VS intellisense
really help me in learning to code...
other IDE hard to learn..
The one voting such a statement down is a college freshman script kiddie. Eclipse has its place but VS is really nice.
