That isn’t just a problem in China, it’s a problem around the entire world. I regularly pop in and out of indie game development teams, almost every last one is “ok I want that from Game A, this from Game B, and if we have time you can pursue your own idea”. Except we never have time to pursue our own ideas because we’re too busy making our own versions of other ideas. It’s not much different in the professional world, except in that world if you do manage to sneak in your own stuff you get fired instead of a slap on the wrist.

Before anyone bashes China for copying. Just take a few moments to look at the products your own country creates. At least Chinese products are brazen enough to put a “compared to Brand X” on the label so you know it’s a blatant ripoff.
