Why do people like comedies/parodies and others hate them cuz they think they're bland? Because they hate comedies/parodies and like other stuff instead.
I myself like all genres equally. Entertainment is nothing but entertainment in my eyes, not a job.
scary movies for example, the only really "innovative" one that's come out that actually dared to try something different was Cabin in the Woods.

Nope, it really wasn't, it was a deconstruction. and sadly, american critics not familiar with deconstruction on a bi yearly basis like we are with our anime shows (since we do get about 1-2 a year it seems)
They see it as a breakthrough and award that same movie a high rating on tomatometer and metacritic.
Personally I enjoyed it, but at the same time the story was "okay" nothing new here since i've seen deconstructions with Madoka being the best example of one in recent years from the anime side of things.
My most hated genre of them all? Rom-coms, they all end the same: Two people meet, they end up together, shit happens, they separate and/or question their relationship, and in the end, they end up together MOST of the time. rarely do you see a movie that doesn't have this same tired out formula, and for every one of those that does break the norm, 100 more are made in and out of hollywood and are just a bore to watch.
Because we have nothing else to watch? :3
