Hughes really isn't that popular with the Japanese. I mean, looking at the original manga (and Brotherhood treatment) he sorta just died. The first Anime made a bunch of filler that fleshed out his character
We still loved him >.<
I like having feelings for Hughes. I saw the anime and then Brotherhood and I was upset by how little I cared when Hughes died. It was like he didn't matter at all suddenly. I liked the filler, I liked caring about his family obsessed ass.
But this is about anime... Not the manga.
So, not seeing Hughes on this list is a huge let down.

this death was the most memorable death i've ever seen in anime
but without his death the story wouldn't have progressed like the way it did
same with kamina, tomoe, ace, togame... but I guess that's the point on killing a character making the story progress and/or create some shock...
Gotta disagree on Kamina. Simon just copied him after his death, so it was only relevant for like 4 episodes.
What's a Gunbuster?
Gainax is good at dragging emo moments out. Watch think about how long Shinji was emo before he decided to make up his mind, or how long Noriko moped in the original Gunbuster.
yeah, and for those episodes he did nothing but sit in a corner and mope, for FOUR DAMN EPISODES IN A ROW. sorry, those few annoyed the crap out of me, rest of the series was good though

L was a good character but not list worthy, the only truly saddening aspect was when Light basically went apeshit on his grave. Rolo's death on the other hand, most depressing death I've ever seen. Apart from Lelouch, who isn't on this list because there's a chance he's still alive.
That's a questionable view to take when you consider how little Mami's death mattered, for instance. Her death isn't as list worthy as many older characters. But they weren't cute characters, nor were they in HD, so they don't count.
L deserved to die
The death is definitely memorable but the list does say wish you didn't happen. I think it comes down to, I wish he had died a different way, but he died because he couldn't bring himself to harm someone that looked like the person he loved and in that single instant he lost everything.

There should be a poll about the top deaths you wish that would have happened, as in Characters staying dead and not being revived with some lame reason just because the author couldn't stand killing his/her main character.

Kenshin doesn't count, the author didn't approve the Seishouhen OVAS
He said he was disappointed because he thought that because all Kenshin and Kaoru had gone through they deserved a better ending with each other than the one in the OVA.
Unfortunately it was a stupid death the end of the OVA .. There was one death with no meaning, the term live by the sword die by the sword .. it would be more appropriate.

Spike's death was the most moving thing ever. He truly deserves a place on this list. But I guess they don't care for oldschool anime with a flood of this new crap around.

He got sick from helping others and neglecting his own health. It was so sad when he finally got home to Kaoru and died in her arms. Tears were rolling down my cheeks the first time I saw it.

I always felt bad for Faye because she had a thing for Spike even if it was more or less one sided. So I guess Faye wound up alone because her family was gone, Spike dead and I never saw her staying with Jet afterwards. She's a survivor but I think she was left with a hole in her heart.
