I have a hard time imagining how he’s going to live the rest of his life with that thought bogging him down forever. A kid around 5 is the age where you START to build up your morals and common sense. There isn’t a kid alive that hasn’t been pissed at their parents, and there are just as many who have contemplated how the get back at them. He isn’t at the age where he can really understand death.

I can easily see how I could have been a dumbass kid like that. And I can imagine what it might be like to slowly grow a bit and realize how badly you just fucked up. And that really scares the crap out of me.
