the fuck happened to my original post? was it too spot on? well, here it is again, more or less:

1. have more diverse environments. 90% of anime seems to take place at a school, ancient Japan, future Japan, outer space, or some middle ages fantasy world. how 'bout going to other countries or other historical time periods? just this alone would greatly increase the originality factor.

2. if you're gonna show fanservice, then fucking show fanservice! and I mean good fanservice. if not, then don't bother! I can't emphasize how irritating it is for current anime to go to great lengths to pretend to show some goods, only to go to even greater lengths to keep the viewer from getting a clear shot of anything. and then the few anime that does show fanservice just shows annoying close ups, dutch angled views, and grotesquely exaggerated physical features like quintuple D boobs or gigantic protruding vaginas.

3. create quality animation. seems like most studios, in stereotypical Japanese fashion, focus more on production quantity as opposed to quality. so you end up with lots of anime that looks a rush job, or with a very generic animation style. I admit I prefer moe, but if it's high quality animation then that's good too.

4. Don't make another harem anime! this tends to force the creation of the same old rehashed (and obnoxious) characters and situations that we've seen 5765435 times already. so here's a novel idea: have a cast with a fairly even male/female ratio. you'll be surprised at the newfound plot and character possibilities. and yes, some of those could still involve multiple girls falling for the same guy.

5. don't try to be everything to everyone. this again has more to do with the characters than most anything else, but it certainly applies to the overall anime. in other words, don't try to have the same old "one of each" type of girl among the characters. and don't try to force comedy, drama, action, or other stereotypical scene that really just ends up watering down the show. so have a focus and stick to it. not everyone will love your show... and that's a good thing.

I swear, if I had millions of dollars to invest I would implement those ideas into an anime studio and bring about a new golden age of anime.

It depends on what you mean by risks. If by risks you mean, make an anime without moe, lolis, or fanservice, then this is not a risk any more. It is a formula for failure. The only exception could be a shounen like anime.

Strange, I always saw it as:

1. Throw in entire chapters of biblical symbolism.

2. Make male lead cry at-least once per episode.

3. Giant robots.

4. Add One spunky girl and one mysterious waif to fawn over protagonist.

5. More plot twists equals superior plot!

6. Have at least one betrayal to keep the emo nice and frothy.

7. Make protagonist an accidental pervert through contrived school scene.

8. Big dumb ending with a voice in the credits explaining the plot.

9. ???

10. Best anime ever!

my list is half as long and twice as good:

1. DON'T have the same old stereotypical characters that have been done a thousand times already! this goes especially for the female characters

2. have an even male/female ratio. I'm serious. all these harem anime have not just forced the "one of each" mentality that gives us the same characters over and over and over again. they also force having the same plots and situations time and again as well

3. have quality animation. I don't care if it's moe, as long as you don't get what looks like a rush job that gets produced just for the sake of meeting a deadline. I'm talking quality over quantity.

4. have different settings! there's plenty of anime out there that takes place at a school, ancient japan, future japan, outer space, or some mythical middle ages period. I want to see stuff that takes place in other countries and other times.
