  I can see why bad handwriting would be bad in Japan. In English, bad handwriting can still be read. In Japanese bad hand writing is just scribble. Or worse, with all the similar looking kanji and kana (for example “ka” and “sa” are similar in hiragana, and a katakana “ka” is close to “chikara” the kanji for power), you could actually get the wrong meaning.
