yup 2 handed swords normally are, can`t figure out why the hand guards are soo frickin long, unless its for people with freakishly large hands...

The length of the grip is just to get better leverage, control and power. Try picking up a broom or something similar, hold it with both ends together at one end, and swing it around at bit. Then move one hand up a bit, and swing it around again. Next imagine doing the same if the broom was three to four times as heavy.
A sword that long with a stubby handle won't work. You'll find yourself gripping the blade.
There's only so far you can extend handles to address long blade design, use a counterweight.

FYI to everyone. The weapon with the handle is called Zweihander. There are some variations of it for the handle. But the basic still the same. handle just above the crossguard.
