If you want to know why they spelled it “Nippombashi” instead of “Nipponbashi”, it’s because of a thing in linguistics called ‘assimilation’.

The second ‘n’ in ‘Nippon’ uses the ‘ん’ character when written in hiragana, which can make either an ‘n’, ‘m’, or ‘ng’ sound depending on what’s near it. Basically, it’s easier to pronounce the ‘ん’ as an ‘m’ in ‘Nippombashi’ because it flows better with the ‘b’ than ‘n’ or ‘ng’ would.
