  nope. I haven’t been in Japan (at least not in the past couple years), but I’ve seen quite a few female Madoka fans on Pixiv… though really, just about EVERYONE on Pixiv was into that series since it premiered.

  it’s not even all that harem-centric. I mean there’s a fling here and there, but it seems far more focused on a single, monogamous relationship than the majority of other anime released in the last decade.

  unfortunately, it wasn’t the anime itself that was epic enough to break 4chan. That honor instead goes to a doujin game based off of it.

  Amusing how you bring up Precure sticking with a “traditional style”. I haven’t watched too many of the series, but Smile Precure gave me the impression that that particular series was extremely self-aware and probably something of a self-parody. It’s especially amusing because it was produced after Madoka Magica made such a huge splash, almost as if Precure was also going for a deconstruction yet doing so in a far more light-hearted tone.
