Doll and figure fanciers have been busily comparing the spoils of their admittedly not usually mutually exclusive hobbies, in the hopes of demonstrating the superiority of one to the other – with predictably spectacular results.
I don't know... I love joints, especially on figures like Figmas, S.H.Figuarts, etc... They might look bad to some, but that's a small sacrifice for poseablity and playablity. Also, on the topic of figmas, they are some of the best detailed and most accurate small scale action figures on the market.
Completed PVCs are great, but for me, I'm beginning to lose interest in them as they are expensive (when compared to figmas) and they really don't do much other than look good on the shelf...
>I'm beginning to lose interest in them as they are expensive (when compared to figmas) and they really don't do much other than look good on the shelf...
And here I thought I am the only one who thought so....but I guess each to their own I guess...
Dolls are better IMHO but expensive, and for being unemployed and having limited funds, I can only afford figmas which are the closest to dolfie in terms of pose ability and interaction.
Static figures/PVC are no longer my thing because it is unposeable and once the excitement dies out, you are left with the figurines collecting dust in your closest.
Give the dolls the right parts, the best clothes (Ones covering joins preferably), and they would pretty much dominate in my say. Dolls seems to be more customable than the pre-painted figures. Figmas have slight customization.
figures looks awesome, but dolls win because u cant do pic 105 with any figure and with dolls u can do way more and have FUN PLAYING with them, kinda creepy tho, but its true
And there's plenty of figures that undress, too. Though i suppose there are some merits to being able to let dolls trade clothes with each other. Still, I'd say the figures win by a slim margin, what with having much more vivid features.
That depends on the figure, the recent saber and Iri figures have some shitty joints if you don't have arms and legs all the way out. Disappointing really.
Dolls are great because they're customizable and usually bigger, but a lot of character themed dollfie faces don't look like the character's actual face at all. For example, I wouldn't have known that doll was Louise if it wasn't for the outfit.
Of course there's some exceptions, but I think non-character themed dolls are great, just leave the characters to figures.
I don't know what that even means. Dolls have a downright ancient history of being hand crafted and hand customized and hand made. Makeshift? It can be a pure artform if done by the pros.
Yeah, makeshift because they don't look like the characters they are supposed to be representing. It looks like they just took some random doll with the appropriate hair color then slapped on the costume. Thus, makeshift.
Also have to say... some of the dolls in the gallery above really look bad. They are those with 'realistic' faces, glass eyes and generic designs(which creep me out too). The ones that I like are the ones made by Azone, who actually does a quite decent job in creating dolls that actually look like their anime counterparts with painted eyes and stuff like that.
You guys at least have to admit dolls have come a very long way since only 5 or 6 years ago. Figurines are constantly evolving for the better, but so are dolls.
The figures win hands down, they're like works of art.
The dolls imo, have a weird creepy look to them. Somethin akin to the uncanny valley look. However, some of the goth loli dolls look really, really good.
If you can't decide though, you could always go with figmas! :3
The one thing I like about figures is the hair, because it adds to the personality of the figure. If the figure is in the midst of battle, I want the hair to move with her, something you can't do with dolls.
Comparing apples and oranges.
Figures looks "exactly" like the character but you cant do anything else with them, than looking on them. Dolls looks, if you want to imitate a character, only similar to the original. But you can make your own character, put on the cloths YOU want, you can do photoshootings with them and much more.
This article is biased. The author is clearly siding with figurines. All the greatest examples of figures are here while the doll showing is fairly subpar compared to previous doll love articles.
I would pick dolls for original designs and figures for character designs. Dolls are much more versatile, and really the outfits are mostly limited by just imagination. However, they most likely won't be in the same likeness of characters like figures would. Plus figures can pull off more dynamic poses like the BRS figures and Lat Shiki Type Miku.
Everytime I see one of these articles I want a doll. I know the joints don't look great, but you can cover them up.
I like the dolls 'cause you can dress and pose them how you want.
@anon 13:57
Wow you're an idiot. That is like saying "The Purge" will become real because murderers already exist. Human trafficking is illegal in every country... More
Looks a lot smoother and refined than the demo.
The interface and mechanics look neater and seem to flow better too.
They've really upped their game.
Not fully... More
I'd prefer figures, IMHO they look better.
Plus they don't have that joint thing that dolls have.

@Actar
Looks like I am not the only one who thinks like that.
But I guess each to their own.

@konakona
this is why you put nice panty hose or sexy stockings on them to cover up the joints.

If I have to say anything.

Figures are sexy, dolls are creepy.
Take your pick.
Then... I choose FIGMA!!! xD
.... you fap to porn. not dolls. what the hell is wrong with you?
Hosiery-because girls have something ugly to hide on their legs.
You're grammar are fail, sir.
And there's plenty of figures that undress, too. Though i suppose there are some merits to being able to let dolls trade clothes with each other. Still, I'd say the figures win by a slim margin, what with having much more vivid features.
the dolls are beter because are undress

I prefer Figure they are not so expensive like the life size doll.
Go figure.
haha so funny that i forgot to laugh
I can't decided. Can I have both ?
I can work myself to death for that purpose !
What about Figma Figures?
gundams lack moe but they are good looking and jointed.
Anyway, snow miku with mitten is so aw-some
Artetokio's Kodomo no Jikan 30cm dolls not only have no joints but also their skin is made of latex what maks them pretty similar to normal skin
http://rinkokonoe.blogspot.com/
I find joints a big turn off, but some of my friends are really into figmas
figures seem much more authentic with at least 80% less uncanny valley effect
agree big turn off dolls uncanny valley effect
You all just jelly you can't afford a dolfie.
i think the winner of this is quite obviously figures >.> all around more detail and less makeshift-looking
I don't know what that even means. Dolls have a downright ancient history of being hand crafted and hand customized and hand made. Makeshift? It can be a pure artform if done by the pros.

yes, all these Dollfies have the same face and no character.
Seconded.
Esthetics over 'capabilities'
Although others could argue...it depends from perssonal approach and needs, I guess.

duh i thought figure hair cannot move it's hard as rock or PVC... te dolls one can, if u play it in front of a fan..
Here here!
Dolls = customizable.
Figures, looks better w/ more detail, but static and therefore can get boring after awhile.
I'm a figure collector, but I hope to get a doll someday.
Don't we all.....don't we all...
both
why choose one side when you can have both ?
Comparing apples and oranges.

So, I like both but both are to expensive ^^

Dolls:
-can dress up with more variety
-can customize to a higher extent
-doll sex (?)
Figures:
-less space to store
-more detail (varies)
-easier to mod
-easier to hide (when necessary)
-less judgement when found
@ Anon 07:40
Also,
Figures:
-Are more easily given "clothes" which have that wonderful shrink-wrapped look which faithfully outlines body curves.
figure looks better but a lot of them arent as customisable as dolls
Figures: Better to stare at.
Dolls: Better to play with.
Basically what most of us have been doing the whole time.
