I am a ma'am D:
No rec? What is this madness?
I LOVE REC! DAMMIT THIS LIST IS SHIT!
There's no REC because the female protagonist HAD SEX and ruined her purity! The otakus just can't handle that.
this is kind of like the word critique or any form of it these days it all seems negative when its more of a neutral term
Otaku has always been a negative connotation....
Only Westerners used otaku wrongly. Otaku means more like obsessive maniac.
some one, please tell this 07:10 joker
i believe s/he not japanese but what with that enthusiast theory? lol. before otaku means enthusiast? typical westerner
Lol What has the world come to? I just realized the word "Anime Otaku" has a such a negative connotation, now that idols/seiyuu have been threatened, etc. etc. Before it just meant Anime Enthusiast= someone who has a broad knowledge of the overall anime/manga/gaming industry.
Oh right, Rec. I had forgotten all about it, but that one really was sweet.
Spice & Wolf.
while it has romance in it and cetainly still has a place in my heart it isn't really a romance show, it's spice&economics
it's economics&wolf dammit.. you cant take away the title's main selling point from the title.. horo is <3!!!
^This!!!! yes and spice wolf
1. Toradora!
2. Clannad
3. Ai yori Aoshi
4. Onegai Teacher
6. Kimi ni Todoke
7. Emma
10. Ichigo 100%
I'm ok with those, though strictly speaking Ichigo 100% MANGA was a great romance story, the anime alone would not make it up there.
I personally might add the likes of Vision of Escaflowne, KGNE, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Saikano, etc.
I want to see a new anime of Onegai...
Old_Nash
I know about Onegai Friends.
But that was almost 10 years ago. I wanted something new.
Once I got to draw a pseudo-continuation called Onegai Family. Where Mizuho was a son of Kei, this traveling on business, the Maho as a teenager living on Earth; Matagu in college.
In addition to some original characters for the story.
As a Japanese-Brazilian girl behind your raise, a Sino-Korean trying to find a place to call home, a Japanese trying to forget where you came from, and a boy trying to find her sister.
The story generated around a single thing they all sought, Family.
Old_Nash
They made a radio drama only in Japan called Onegai Friends, strangely enough they released figurines of the characters but never turned the story into an anime (or even a manga as far as I know). Maybe they just didn't get enough love (*chuckle*) to continue after Onegai Twins?
Kiss x sis
LoL
Ichigo 100% <333
amazing these ADD guys remembered that anime
No White Album? Ef is on 9th place?
Bad list.
I realize now, 8 titles from that list are my all time favorites.
Im so MOE right now....
P.S. MacrossF sheriru & Ichigo100% tsukasa FTW!!!!
No kanon, or Kimi kiss???? o m g
I've learned to stop having expectations. =/
I still remember Kimi Ga Nozomu No Eien. Was it not considered as a romance and more of a tragedy?
The best romance anime/mangas are those with tragedy or something like that.
Not those where its all happy and good imho.
And yeah I think I have never
cried as much as I did to Kimi Ga Nozomu No Eien lol.
No Kaichou wa Maid-sama!either...
Was Ichigo 100% even supposed to be romance? I actually feel it doesn't fit into that category.
And I feel the list ain't that good. Air, Kanon, Chobits and KGnE is not in there.
Yeah Chobits isn't even there.
Toradora on place no.1 where it should be. The rest... Who cares about the rest anyway?
Clannad. I'm very glad that Clannad placed in the top two along with Toradora.
I do. most of the list is okay, but it's ridiculous to not have Kanon or Kimi Kiss on there.
And I always thought Ef would do better on this kind of list.
Yes! Toradora.
Toradora at first place? First top 10 on SC that I agree with.
This list... I am very okay with it.
YAY!!!
Toradora at #1
Anime Fans wising up I see. :)
Recent OVA made me watch back a few episodes.
How I miss this type of show where I care what happens to the romance, which seem to be lacking these days...
well let's see what happens with Ano Natsu de Matteru, I don't see it like a great romance story, but is the best you can get these days...
WHERE IS VISION OF ESCAFLOWNE!?!!? FFFFF
WHERE THE HELL IS VISION OF ESCAFLOWNE?!
Toradora, Clannad, Ef and True Tears for me! Haven't seen the others (yet). ^^'
Onegai Teacher. The rest can go walk off a pier.
This and it should be higher than number 4.
> 1. Toradora!
So true.
I can't rate which is no.1 so in the order I watched them.
1.Kimagure Orange Road
2.Marmalade Boy
3.Love Hina
4.School Days
5.Ef A tale of memories
6.Itazura no Kiss
7.Toradora
8.Hanasakeru Seishounen
9.Kimi no Todoke
10.Mashiiro Symphony
Awesome list, just one thing: Love Hina's not *quite* a romance. It's more of a series wherein a very (saintly-so, actually) patient young man helps several severely socially *broken* young women come to terms with their problems. Also helps them realize a megaton punch is NOT the socially acceptable answer to everything, as they first thought it was.
You're missing the point here. He actually included School Days on the list.
Wait.. It's NOT?
Oh fuck, I gotta go and pick my boss out of the trash.
Love Hina was clearly a romance, and I wish all you slap-stick comedy haters would stop.
Who are you to decide what is 'socially acceptable' in a piece of work, when there are plenty that lap it up and find nothing wrong with it.
edit. Or in other words, why are you expecting solid realism in a work of fiction?
edit2. Also, don't get me wrong here. I'm not saying it's a masterpiece or something. Looking back, it wasn't really that good. Just hate having to listen to people whining about slapstick comedy.
Love Hina = 95% Nudity & Comedy, 5% Romance.
1.Kimagure Orange Road
YES!!
Kimagure Orange Road belongs at the top of the list.
Especially with the two movies... which realistically broke up the love-triangle... and shows the characters acting like ADULTS when they are of age in their early 20s. Being horny and talking about sex, rather than their teenage years of bloody noses and freaking out over a miss-placed hand on a boob, etc.
Maison Ikkoku should be high too.
Onegai Teacher, hmm, I like Mizuho.
Not a bad list! I have the same top 2 (except Clannad lands in first by a long shot)
Toradora is heartwarming, but the ending is actual a mess when you think about it. Not a single character ends in a relationship they originally desired, though I guess you could argue that the series is about Ryuuji's growing relationship with Taiga that eventually becomes more powerful than first intentions.
Sorry, this:
What's the point so, if the story is that monotonous.
is for you XD
how boring would the anime be if everyone's desires played out so linearly.
What's the point so, if the story is that monotonous.
midori no hibi, green green? that should be count in
green green!!?? gren green is garbage
I'm surprised there is no mention of SHUFFLE!!.
Sorry Anon but NO....JUST NO (Shuffle's Anime was GARBAGE)
I was thrilled though to see Ai Yori Aoshi actually made it on the list period. Even more so in that it's #3 :). Saddens me though that my favorite romance anime is kind of loose ended. What about that house in the country with the Cherryblossoms and 3 kids? WE NEED A CONTINUATION! I think true fans of Ai Yori Aoshi deserve to see Aoi and Kaoru's family.
1. Toradora!
2. Clannad
absolutely
but i rather Ef a tale of melodies over memories :)
Ah! Megami-sama most reprehensibly missing.
Needs more josei. Where is Nana?
Judging by the titles on the list it should be obvious that very few women voted on the poll.
Awesome that Ai Yori Aoshi is up there, if this is a Japanese list I'm surprised that they remember that far back. Good series
Along with Onegai Teacher. Should have been 1) OneTai and Ai Yori Aoshi as number 2.
Where is my Ah! My Goddess, Kaleido Star, ef - a tale of melody, Myself Yourself...?
I'm just going to come out and say it: Any list which does not include Maison Ikkoku in first place is wrong. Here's why: Rumiko Takahashi, the story's creator, is probably the first writer to successfully employ Tsundere in a main character. That, and the relationship between Kyoko and Godai is universally relatable, and not to mention spot-on, and while the characters may be archetypal, they have an astonishingly realistic amount of depth, uncannily realistic even for a slice-of-life seinen. For that matter, any entry on the list that is not either slice of life or some form of seinen is not to be taken seriously (Shoujo and Josei manga need not even apply).
can we just switch Clannad with everything Keys made? amove Ef a bit up?
Maison Ikkoku? Spice and Wolf?
Sailor Moon I think will always remain along with Kannazuki no Miko for me.
fushigi yuugi
saikano should have in that list
It was a strange idea, but..
Midori Days
And, Karin.
ah, karin.. but the manga is so much better.
Ai Yori Aoshi should be number 1. But a number 3 is fine too.
school days no? °° lol ;)
What about Gosick? The ending to it was pretty heartwarming. Or does that not count because it's not mainly a romance genre?
Woah, this is a rare example of an actually good ranking list.
nope still not.
no maisson ikkoku.
unless they specific top 10 romance anime in recent 5 years then its okay
And the Palmtop Tiger stands on top!
Taiga...of course. Toradora! FTW
Im a man and I cried like a pig to Kimi Ga Nozomu No Eien.
Lovely complex was pretty good, maison ikkoku, uhhh his and her circumstances, and kimagure orange road. Also this isn't really a great choice though I did enjoy crest of the stars. It's more of a space opera but it does have romance in it. Also Lafiel <3
Finally good rankings, Toradora is probably one of the best series I have ever watched. Granted animation quality is soso thanks(JCStaff) but the story, VA's, and atmosphere is one of the best school romance animes ever without going way to deep or emo
But lets not forget true tears or ef, ef is probably one of my top 2 favorite character designs, absolutely gorgeous designs with huge eyes and skinny girls. True Tears with a realistic feeling and very normal relate-able characters.
The only other one not on the list which I would recommend is Love Hina. Yes a bit out there but who would not want to live an alternative life of Kietero
Ichigo 100% was a good manga. The anime adaptation was crappy.
This list is messed up. Till now I don't know why toradora is #1. I watched it and the plot was just so not worth first place. Canned is better, ok I know toradora's heroin is just cute and moe but it is not enough to make the show #1. Any story with people who change their loved ones who actually love them back but because another person like them and he or she is their friend then they screw the love they had for a year or so. That's just so not romance -.-
I can't believe the intentions of toradora is too hard to digest for some people. I swear sankaku's autistic.
The show clearly made it clear between a crush (taiga's rash puppy love)vs a mature and developed love, it's not rocket math.
Where's Love Hina? Ouran High Host Club?
Girls Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!
people forgetting about Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien already?
shitty list without that
Clannad for sure.
Midori Days always stuck to me personally though.
Lots of great titles are missing but at leas TORADORA is in the right place HELL YEAH!
Yosuga No Sora isn't even on the damned list...
As far as Romance goes there are only 3. Kimi-Kiss Pure Rouge, Tokimeki Memorial Only Love, and Romeo and Juliet-to.
No Kare Kano? Fruits Basket??
BOGUS LIST
