Having worn stockings similar to that when I was overweight and when I was skinny, I will say that it does not hurt (as long as you get the right size). Obviously if I tried to stick my overweight legs into my skinny stockings, that would hurt, but really, sizing is key.
What hurts is when the elastic at the top rolls down from friction or incorrect removal techniques. That's only an issue while overweight, and it's not an issue if you buy the correct size.
