Aya Hirano Reborn – On Rolling Stone’s Cover

aya-hirano-reborn.jpg

Aya Hirano has made the cover of the Japanese edition of top music rag Rolling Stone, rock and roll diva that she is.

The rag promises a “long interview” with Hirano about the direction of what remains of her career, sure to be an fascinating prospect given her long-held reputation as a deep thinker.

As it is neither Twitter nor a gossip-laden tabloid, neither scandalous utterances or difficult questions seem likely, but with Hirano surely anything is possible.

The reasons behind the astonishing resilience of her career are the subject of some speculation – and admiration:

“She’s starting something else, again?”

“Aya’s an angel!”

“She doesn’t have any fans left though – who’s going to buy this?”

“What is up with those clothes and that pose…”

“I don’t think much of that outfit.”

“Go to some auditions and announce some proper work for once!”

“Supposedly she has secured some proper roles for winter.”

“She’s no good for anything but bitch characters now.”

“Well, she certainly has the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle down.”

“What ever happened to that poor bassist of hers?”

“The Japanese version is really down market though, they even had AKB on their cover. It’s just an idol magazine really.”

“So there is still a mag which will take her. I remember buying it when they had Rei on the cover.”

“This rag has no sense at all though. They’ve had Steve Jobs, Michael Jackson, 2NE, etc.”

“Given that she keeps switching jobs, she’s quite a rolling stone herself.”

“To still pull stuff like this she must have some pretty amazing connections behind her. Who is protecting her? Her parents?”

“What the hell is behind her?”

Wasn't her "absence" from the entertainment industry like one or two months? And it seems like she wasn't struggling, going through hardships during that period. So this "comeback" is sort of exaggerating just like her so-called scandal.

    Comment by Anonymous

The sexual harassment was actually way underplayed by all the idiot fans, because feminism somehow means her bassist was just foolishly feeling persecuted, and that she did not at all pressure any other members of the rest of her band into it too.

Wow.. AKB48, 2NE1, Micheal Jackson, Steve Job's... and now Aya Hirano. I thought seiyu are small fry, but it seems like she is a super star in japan :D

With all the troublesome exposure she's had recently, I would have thought she'd opt for a tasteful, conservative photo for the cover.

    Then again ...

    Hey, sex sells.

Also, is this really a surprise for anyone? She's currently signed with a subsidiary of the all-powerful Burning jimusho. She'll get all the publicity she can.

I agree with this guy. I'm surprised she's still afloat when she has so little to offer compared to other pros who have been in similar positions.

She's also a tv personality. I don't understand Japanese, so I can't really vouch for her tv-jibber-jabbering skills, but she seems pleasant enough and about on par with most tv people.

That's a pretty lame photo for a rolling stone IMO, even if it's just the japanese version.

Haters feel and know Aya is out of reach for them.
Too great artist, too good looks to accept for those with ugly brains.

There seem to be 2 kinds of otaku:

2ch Aya bashers are like Ishihara, utterly conservative, can`t see difference with 2D and real people.

Realistic otaku, who knows real people = girl seiyuu`s are living normal lifes, including sex life.
But they enjoy girl seiyuu`s voice work and appearances fully, without stupid & impossible demands.
    Guess which side are winners?

I commend Aya for her quality voice acting, singing, tv hosting work and last but not least....
for having a normal, healthy sex life for a woman her age.

3 out of 4 bandmembers. Let's see, how many male celebs boink all their costars, assistants, random groupies? How many of them are called on it? ZIP.

It's obvious Aya is a very insecure woman just as much as batshit crazy fans, the only reason people are now defending her is because they're so sick of japans representation of idols that there using aya as a catalyst to rebel against that very image, which is all fine and dandy, but lets not forget how much of a insecure woman she was even BEFORE her scandal. The fact she used those two incidents to incite pity towards herself tells me all I need to know about her character. Anyone who has to use a brain tumor or accuse a taxi driver of kidnapping her when it was nothing more of a overreaction to create sympathy is a fucking scumbag. Dont use the " you don't know what's it's like to be a celebrity" excuse, there are plenty of celebs out there who have haters. Even Justin bieber has a shit load of haters - while he completely deserves to be hater on since he IS the exact representation of todays music industry, that you dont need actual talent to be a musician just a pop star image - even HE handles criticism in a respectable manner. Aya, however does not she instead crumbles under pressure and tries to use medical conditions as a joke to gain pity; a sympathy device. I cant overlook that. Maybe you guys love her characters so much that you can, but I can't.

Perhaps he's sick of the blatant faggotry going on.

I mean yeah, the bitch is being sidelined hard by otaku for seemingly unfair reasons. Why do YOU bother about that?

Did you buy the anime DVDs instead of pirating through the net? Did you buy any of her albums? The photobooks?

Have you forgotten about the sympathy-fishing stories of her tumor and the taxi driver fuss?

She's not getting all this media attention because people want her. People who don't care about anime, don't care about her. She's being thrusted into mainstream media now because her agency is affiliated with one of the two largest industry hoarders; Burning jimusho who monopolizes a lot of shit.

Outside from a few variety show appearance, she doesn't contribute jack to mainstream scene.

What people seem to actually be sick of is the way the industry works, and that Aya is working within that framework even after having violated the doll-like image the industry tries to maintain for morons. People are just angry at the house of cards tumbling down, and that she is still 'alive' amidst the ruins, and don't understand why.

You complain about her getting attention. If you've ever lived a life where you're being scrutinized by people, you would have a clue in the world that that is not 'attention' that any sane human being wants. It's thrust upon you, especially when there is nowhere that you can escape it.

You complain about her twitters being for attention... but have you had a tumor before? I have... you kind of want to talk to someone about it if there's even a suspicion. And if a taxi driver kidnaps you? Yeah, I'd imagine that'd be an ordeal for a celebrity woman. If you believe she lied about it, that's another issue entirely, but I have no real reason to assume she did.

If she is lonely enough that the only people she felt she could express how scared she was was to her twitter followers, she gets my sympathy. If you can say something like 'she should get some friends' then you know nothing about what friends can become when you gain celebrity. Your life changes, as does your relationship to them. It takes very, very strong bonds to survive that. Rock stars, actors, and various A and B-list celebrities haven't ended up in rehab or killing themselves because it's just the 'way it is.' Do you have any idea how lonely it is to be surrounded by people who love you, but know absolutely nothing about you, nor really care?

That is why people will still talk about her reasonably. They have perspective. She did roles that we love, made music we enjoyed, and we're not liking her to spite the people who don't like her, regardless of what those morons think.

Talent, yea, as much talent as most of the Japanese voice actors that do superb work I reckon, Slut Aya is overrated, its only haruhitards and lukcytards that believe she is the best seiyuu ever.

Wanna talk REAL talent pal, yea, the kind not super inflated by 2 or 3 overrated anime series/characters by extreme hardcore otaku or by scandals? While I am not fan of hers look at Nana Mizuki then, that is talent that surpasses the media.
