No its more like I watch anime to escape reality as I have a crappy life, not to make me feel even crappier. That's my take on liking shows like K-On, but yeah sometimes I do want to watch something that makes me think and there are still plenty of anime out there for that.

It's amazing how these lists are always limited to shows from the last one or two years (with a few exceptions). You'd think anime didn't exist until recently. ;)

DVD/BD sales pretty much show it though.
Same goes for Hidan no Aria. Not enough sales to produce a second season, if the sales continue like this.

Overrated means being more popular than it deserves to be. Most of the shows on this list are genuinely that good.
They should really have a 'vote down' system for these polls where people who disagree can vote down a show. Otherwise, only the people that hate a show will be able to vote, creating the same biased opinions that appear on every list.
The definition of overrated then would be based on opinions only. What does it mean that it's more popular than it deserves to be.
