The characters are on sale as DLC from the 14th onwards, for those still willing to brave PSN.
Aside from the obvious inexplicability of Square Enix’s refusal to produce the most demanded remake in gaming history, some concerns have been voiced about a certain lackingness in poppet Tifa:

Square could just die and be sold for some better company that actually listens to their customers. Did I mention Square should die?
Absolutely. After the last few games I have no desire to support them again ever.
Chrono Trigger, FF Tactics (for PSX), and FFVII were amazing games. Why can't we have something as good as those on current hardware? Why did the latest one make everything into a tunnel where you just kept pressing X? What happened to cool characters, subplots, exploring a big world, doing side quests, or anything like that?
The games were contracted to China (aka FF14) and became the death knoll for Square Enix. You get what you paid for, and the former fans (including myself) can only look with disgust.
Kill Enix or sell them to Nintendo. Give Square to Sony. The games they both make tell it all.

No no no, they KNOW the only thing that's still keeping fan interest in the FF franchise is the possibility of a FF7 remake. Once they actually make it, it will probably suck like the rest of the recent FF games. After this the franchise and SquareEnix with it will be dead.
So they just won't make it and instead tease ppl with crap like this.
