Still western thinking. In Japan having the girls you share you school life with cleaning your messes will yield to better result. Male would socialize on that and come to understand each other’s messes while showing them to the girls puts it in a completely different perspective: boys would never want girls to know how dirty they are, it would be overhumiliating.
