You severely overestimate the average high schoolers if you think they had even the slightest idea of what they were doing or the consequences of it. A reasonable person wouldn’t risk capture and imprisonment over a few laughs.

Not that such a stupid prank could traumatize anyone by itself. Kid is far more likely to end up traumatized after a bunch of “oh-so-holy” adults repeatedly tell her she should feel very bad and traumatized about the event which inevitably happens when the words “child abuse” start to fly around.
