Top 10 Guro Anime

Anime fans strive to rank the most grotesque and horrible anime ever made in this spiteful ranking of anime carnage and perversion.
The criteria for being considered a “guro” anime are fairly vague – guro, shortened from the English “grotesque” and often further adapted into the Japanese style adjective “guroi,” has much the same broad connotations as it does in English…
In practice this seems to mean “guro” can easily take in anime entirely free of blood and guts if they are instead filled with sufficient horror and cruelty (Madoka clearly fits this mould).
Most anime in the ranking enthusiastically manage all four, however:
1. Elfen Lied
5. Shiki
6. School Days
10. Freezing
Putting aside the content of the anime as a whole, the most extreme content is clearly to be found in guro vivisection anime Shiki.

Elfen Lied also depicted a dog being beaten to death, loli raep, and dismemberment aplenty. not to mention childhood hearts being stomped on by cruel boys lol.
Plus the cute, clumsy, comic relief girl gets the axe in the first episode. I was glad I didn't have to put up with her.

I agree. Lame list. There're better and actual "guro" animes than these popular mainstream shows which have little bit of blood somewhere. Not to undermine the other qualities these are all great shows but not really something worth a list like this...
The only show on this list which actually has tons of blood is Neon Genesis Evangelion. The biggest brain fuck of the list is Higurashi obviously. School Days delivered better scenes than Shiki. Freezing? Come on, what it even does on this list? Madoka I can understand a bit better but its a lot like Freezing and doesn't really have that violence. Instead its got really dark theme and sad hopeless situation which is why its so great.
Elfen Lied seems to be everybodys favorite emo anime despite that anime sucks heavily compared to manga which delivers the very best of drama and really good story.
Considering how shitty the art is in the elfen lied manga, its no suprise that people perfer the anime. The art is so bad in the manga it simply takes away from the enjoyment of it.

Madoka really, really shouldn't be on this list, it wasn't exactly Guro imo...
My point is that they could have put the 9 other anime on the list & easily found a 10th 1 to replace Madoka but okay, at least it's not in the top 3, or top 5 for that matter...

Apparently anything with any controversial death = guro...
Even something like Shiki, I wouldn't exactly call it guro. It had some moments, but the entire show was more about suspense than outright, crazy gore.
Kurozuka literally made me shiver with fear many of its scenes.
And the worst of them all, Shigurui, nearly made me puke and get dizzy from all the carnage that was going on. Some truly sickening, crazy guro shows out there.
Technically speaking, Guro is a shortening of the word Grotesque. Hence, anything Grotesque can be considered Guro, ala the previous post on the Sayaka blow up doll.
I think you missed that "vivi"- (technically she's dead, right?) section and well stuff in later eps is still pretty high on the fucked up scale with loads of brutality and stuff more fitting for "the horrors of WW2".

Last time I checked on Amazon.jp the price tag on the BluRay box set was 57,000 yen!($703 US). Even downloads aren't that easy to find on the net or are incomplete. So maybe viewer availability might have something to do with it. Great series though, I have the novels.
yeah, i had a hard time finding the 1080p versions, you pretty much have to get that stuff the day it comes out, regardless of if you dl it or buy it

Why should it matter if it's bad adaptation .. guro is guro. These lists are retarded anyway, Madoka isn't even guro but it's there because it was so big success that people will vote for it anyway even if it has nothing to do with the poll.
yes, people die in Madoka but hardly in '' guro '' way .. I don't recall seeing blood splattering everywhere, perhaps even pieces of body flying around like in Elfen Lied, Gantz or some other. (No wonder EL is at top, but there's several titles that are missing from the list ...)
It matters cause both Gantz and Claymore are pretty shity as anime , as mangas they are great, and its a "top 10" , Elfen Lied its ok but compared with Mnemosyne it´s sort of mild.
Gantz and Claymore are pretty bad adaptation of great mangas so i think thats the reason why they arent there

Oh man, Speed Grapher was so great. I forgot about it until now. It's definitely fitting of the guro content, but one of my favorites just because of the the fact that it was some semi-fresh material.

The rest of the list actually makes me laugh since there's still not enough pure 'guro' centric stuff there. Just the popular stuff people feel has controversial violence and gore perhaps..
