Top 25 Moeblobs

Type B anime fans supply a ranking of the most moe female anime characters ever to command their attention until the next season.

The ranking:

1. Aria H Kanzaki (Hidan no Aria)

2. Misaka Mikoto (Railgun)

3. Erio Touwa (Denpa Onna)

4. Azusa Nakano (K-ON!)

5. Elsea (Kami Nomi)

6. Yui Hirasawa (K-ON!)

7. Victorique (Gosick)

8. Tenshi (Angel Beats!)

9. Kuroneko (Ore no Imouto)

10. IkaMusume (IkaMusume)

11. Ohana Matsumae (Hanasaku Iroha)

12. Meiko Honma (Ano Hi)

13. Fumino Serizawa (Neko Overrun)

14. Nozomi Kiriya (Neko Overrun)

15. Millhiore F Biscotti (Dog Days)

16. Taiga Aisaka (Toradora!)

17. Hinagiku Katsura (Hayate no Gotoku)

18. Popura Taneshima (Working!!)

19. Tooru (A Channel)

20. Haruhi Suzumiya (Haruhi)

21. Nagato (Haruhi)

22. Nagi Sanzenin (Hayate no Gotoku)

23. Nadeko Sengoku (Bakemonogatari)

24. Kirino Kohsaka (Ore no Imouto)

25. Haruka Minami (Minami-ke)

The results seem to demonstrate what has long been suspected by moe anime critics – that the lifespan of a moeblob is likely to be mayfly short, although the tactical voting otaku are notorious for in such rankings may have also played a part in forcing the usual suspects from their perch.

But she will get some fierce competition in near future.

I think that the cast of Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai have a great potential. (Especially Sena Kashiwazaki)

I cant wait for the anime!

if it was just this...but people that actually have courage to say "it's the best of all time" when they read/see/play just the last 1/3 year light novel/manga/anime/visual novel are the most sick ones. Those people too find comfort in the familiar, "new" things and don't even try to read/see/play diferent things, but cover their faces.

That's what I'm talking about. These lists only cares about it being new and that they liked the show. NOT THAT IT ACTUALLY HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT THE LIST ASKS FOR!

Everything will be replaced by new ones, thats the way things are. But that doesnt always have to be a bad thing.

It remind me of this quote :

Anything invented before your fifteenth birthday is the order of nature. That's how it should be. Anything invented between your 15th and 35th birthday is new and exciting, and you might get a career there. Anything invented after that day, however, is against nature and should be prohibited.

I believe that Moe and Moeblob shouldn't be used as a derogatory term, but one to simply describe a character with numerous appealing traits or 'Moe' factors. What are these factors? Stuff that incite a special feeling in you that could be described as a similar reaction to when you see something cute.

Or as described by numerous scholars such as Hiroki Azuma, a form of stimulation.

    Tsundere is moe.
    Silent Character is moe.
    Cute is moe.
    Klutzy is moe.
    Maids are moe.
    Glasses are moe.

Moe does not mean no characterization. Moe is everywhere. Moe can be anything. You can't escape it.

Yes, moe is subjective and the moe factors can differ from people to people. However, those listed above are numerous common ones that are agreed upon by many people. It's Database consumption.

Moeblob should be used to describe a character with a ton of moe factors. Yuki is moe because she is a cute, silent character with glasses. Mikoto is moe because she is a cute, tsundere. Yui is moe because she is cute, clutzy and adorable.

If you think this way, the list makes complete sense.

A ranking should be about popularity, it could be a great market research tool. But it's a flawed system online, often exploited by a handful of hardcore fans to cast hundreds of votes from hundreds of accounts. When stuff like that starts to happen any real value the ranking holds has long since diminished.

No. Moeblob is cute characters doing cute things and pretty much nothing else.

Yui from K-on is a moeblob. She lives a carefree life filled with jack shit but acting cute infront of the camera.

Nagi From Hayte is not a moeblob. She lives a stressfull life trying to do jack shit but ends up being thrown in situations all the time, or cause situations for others. She bitches a lot, is selfish and is mean to the ones she likes. Sexist as well.

She may be moe because she's tsundere, but she ain't no moeblob.

Maybe I was wrong, but aren't moeblobs just cute girls in anime? Are you trying to say Misaka isn't cute?

    Comment by Anonymous

    1. Moe :

A Japanese slang term (ironically, first employed by otaku) used to refer to the fetish for or sexual attraction to idealized people, usually a fictional perfect young girl.

Since then, moé has come to be used as a general term for a hobby, mania or fetish (non-sexual or otherwise). This is contrasted with otaku, which would be taking the specific hobby, mania or fetish to harmful levels.

    2. Mow

The new meaning of 'moe' is entirely caught up in issues surrounding hobbies and taste. Specifically, 'moe' means be attracted to a specific character or its specific partial element and to have a favor feeling toward it. 'Moe' suggests the condition of being infatuated with one character or thing and implies an image of someone burning with desire.
The picture becomes clearer when we hear the frequent use of 'moe' referring to specific elements or characteristics, such as 'weak girl moe,' 'young lady moe,' and 'glasses moe.' The meaning of 'glasses moe' refers to a taste that is taken with a character who wears glasses; furthermore, this taste fetishizes the feature itself of glasses-wearing. In this case, glasses are the 'moe' element.

    Moeblob :

A character who is moe to the point of lacking almost any other definable traits, physically or character-wise. Cuteness taken to an unappealing level.

The terms are getting so screwed up these days. Many of those are what used to just be kawaii (cute... in case no one uses this anymore?) Now most people say moe when they mean kawaii, but really, moe is something that happens in the viewer, while kawaii is something about the subject.

Moe was always more of a feeling than an attribute. Often described as wanting to protect and nurture a character. Often, like a cuteness that just grabs hold of you and makes you feel devoted to them.

Moeblobs is misused there - that's just what you get when someone tries to make a character themselves moe - usually ending up in some milquetoast dojikko crybaby that ends up being more annoying than cute. It's a dangerous game we play, toying with such emotions - it becomes quite easy for something like this to flip from cute to insincere, and they go from moe to moeblob. Like looking at an artificial face that tries too hard to be human, but falls down the uncanny valley instead.

For the haters like colonydrop, any female character who is less bad-ass than Revy of Black Lagoon is a "moeblob." So it's pretty much a meaningless term.

And damn, I know memories are short, but there's nothing on there that's older than 5 years! And that's not even taking into account franchises like Haruhi and Minami-Ke that have multiple incarnations. That would make Taiga the "least-recent" entry on the list.

To figure out the definition of moe-blob one must look no further than the moe archetypes:
    - clumsy girl that displays either unusual confidence or unbelievable spaciness.
    - glasses girl that is typically well read or builds goofy machines.
    - tsundere typically with a rebellious attitude.
    - caring girl whom is typically a maid, sister, angel, or any combination of those.
    - childhood friend that could easily wipe out an entire army with her bare hands.
    - the list gets a bit long, so I'll stop here.

So in that context a moe-blob would be an anime which is jam packed with these characters that require no more thinking than a multiple choice question. I wouldn't be surprised if writers have software which they check off all these common moe attributes they want and it spits out a picture of the character that best fits that combination.
