Toyota’s manly version of Hatsune Miku, evidently designed specifically for the discerning tastes of the testosterone loving American public, is apparently the only version deemed fit for use in the land of the free and continues to find itself the subject of additional advertising.
Liberty Miku vs Hatsune Miku:
At least this time it is not stealing Tony’s pose.
Angry Miku fans have been urging their compatriots to pressure Toyota into ending its blasphemous and disrespectful treatment of the world’s foremost virtual diva:

Artwork aside, I hope that Americans won't simply identify Miku as just that "cartoon Toyota girl" from all these ads. There should be more effort put into advertising her for what she actually is: a Vocaloid.
Why? More people use and enjoy cars than they listen to shitty, choppy music.
'use and enjoy cars'....really?
you posted that on sc?
You are fake and gay.
NOBODY IT´S FAKE AND GAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Um yeah stupid. Most people in America use and enjoy cars. Most people in America don't give a fuck about Miku. How retarded are you?
STILL doesn't make any sense, either you know who Miku is, and you think "what the fuck have they done to Miku and what has she to do with cars?" or you don't and just think "why is that chick with the seriously weird blue hair orgasming on top of a Toyota?"
This is much better and original.
But god, that previous one looked like she was on steroids or something that messes up your face. Still can't beat Tony's version tho <3
Don't worry, that hideous face could never belong to Hatsune Miku.
The commercial tells us it's actually the imposter Hatsooney Miku.
One point for Megidola, one point less for Toyota
Reminds me of this MAD

Gotta hate it when they become commercial for products.
..implying that she isnt an advertisement for a product..
Hello? VOCALOID? No one would have any idea what that is without her.
She is an advertisement. Mascots represent a product or an idea.
Kinda like how Sonic = SEGA.
Sorry but you're in love with a moe blob brand icon.
Its ok for them to announce products as long shes not Rapped, like... toyotas and that euro magazine...
poor Miku
What the fuck is up with them pointy ass titties? That's not Miku!
I think that's fine in a way, but that previous one, just NO.
Hm, I think this new one looks pretty good, actually.
the body and all looks good but the face and expression are horrible
wait...shouldn't be Miku DFC ? o.0
They'd have serious legal issues if she was DFC - due to recent event >>;
what event ?
Also note that this isn't porn, and there is no DFC laws in the US, so no "legal issues" could come up even if they wanted too...
What legal issues? Are you sure you're not confusing the US with Australia...?
SLIGHTLY Less manly
Everything people from United States touch is pretty much ruined. Latest example I remember is that while everybody else in the world calls popular Korean rhythm-action-game "DJMAX" like the Korean developers (Pentavision) of that game call it ("DJMAX")... After all american version was released the publisher made a mistake with the naming calling it "DJ Max" as if the "Max" was a person or something which isn't true at all. Well the PMStudio corrected their mistake in next northern american release which was DJMAX Portable 3 but damage was already done and because of that only american DJMAX community members refer to DJMAX most of the time incorrectly as "DJ Max". This is really annoying. DJMAX with a space applied between DJ and MAX is incorrect spelling.
lol agree, but the tony figure is so.. overpowered >_<
I just hate the face of the Tony rip off.
Yep the new pic is not bad actually!
I like both for what they are. I win!
Americanized Miku looks like a trap , seriously. With its long nose and manly face(sharp chin too). Definitely a trap.
I also don't see the relevance of Miku to the car. I would understand if it was Roger Federer since he would need a car to drive around but what about a cyber diva? Fail Marketing sense is fail.
You haven't met a lot of women in your life, haven't you? You fail at social life.
Doesn't still answer what's the deal with the car.
Thats like asking "Why do celebs advertise anything but the movies they are in?"
It's something popular to make another thing popular.
Also last I checked sharp chins are drawn on females or VERY pretty men...
I have about a BILLION How to Draw Manga books as well as many artists who follow this common trend.
Round chins are mainly for young children.
Also the nose isn't THAT fucking long!
Is detail too much to much of a problem?
I don't like Chun-Lee fan art because her legs have no muscle 9/10.
A trap? Really? Are you blind or just stupid?
us sucks
In sumary... the fans want more "moe" and less "realistic" Miku.
I think its more like they don't want Miku to become "realistic".
Jews: Proving Hitler Right Since 1945.
The body is good but that face...! o__O
Liberty Miku looks like a SLUT!!!
It's faithful to the original then.
So If I buy that car, a virtual goddess will descend upon me? There's a picture of it so it must be true!
doesn't look that bad to me. Sure it's not as good as say Tony's work, but I've seen worse artwork and at least Miku is getting more and more recognised in the west
It's BETTER than Tony's work.
Son i am disappoint
*crying*
Don't worry he'll understand, *sniffs* won't he?
Actually I do like it more than Tony's. I think Tony's art is over-glorified and other otaku are just afraid to come out and say how boring and unimaginative the majority of his work is.
Well what WERE you expecting this is SanCom
And we DON'T think it's bad, but and I mean BUT it's like going into a pet club full of cat lovers, you know what your getting into but you still scream DOG and well that's what you get.
All SanCom members know how to appreciate art but we just like Tony's kind than others
What's sad is that you guys expected different
@21:30 15/05/2011
if your definition of "art" is: "looking more like real life"
than this indeed is better art than the Tony version.
But if this is your definition of art...
wouldn't you have to consider it bad art for the illustration errors?
Most obvious being lighting inconsistencies.
It is trying to be a realistic painting but the artist is, considering the project, likely due to time constraints, incapable of creating good art in this, by your preferences, superior art-style.
We accept that someone will consider a style as superior, but even then, what is "better" art given two specific images?
An illustration perfectly executed in an inferior style?
Or an illustration that's kind-of done right in the superior one?
Even if your choice differs, does that mean that the other "fuckers don't know shit about art." ?
"Actually I do like it more than Tony's. I think Tony's art is over-glorified and other otaku are just afraid to come out and say how boring and unimaginative the majority of his work is."
I have to kind of agree. I don't really like Tony's drawings as much as most people. My main problem is that they're usually really boring to look at.
Are they drawn skillfully? Yes, quite skillfully.
But I just think they lack expression. Even when they're smiling, it doesn't feel like they're actually smiling. Just for reference, I decided to look through some of his tagged stuff.
http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/post/show/1023881
This is the only one that I found fun to look at. This guy actually has an interesting look to him. Every other picture I've seen, they look like humanoids made to simulate emotion.
Just my 2 cents.
As for this picture, I think it's drawn better than Tony's works, but I also think it's out of character.
We all know it's OK and some will prefer it..
The eyes are closed so it couldn't be cross-eyed like the previous one.
Still no acting skills though., unless of course she was intended to be drawn being shot from behind. (which would explain pose, light-source and facial expression)
The main problem I've got with this US-Miku is that the painting is missing the cleanliness, and "radiation" necessary for depicting a "perfect" artificial life-form.
Rather than "glowing" like a typical representation in this scenario (whether angel or charged-up gynoid), this US-Muku is a dull back-lit object, giving the character a dead feeling.
(not even the spread hair was drawn to be translucent like it would be in reality, or this illustration http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/ja/post/show/465886
The most ironic point is that the wings were drawn to be rather translucent in parts that wouldn't be on a real wing, but I guess they could be the light-source, whereas the hair was shaded as simple shiny solid object... )
I wonder what a Miku by Hajime Sorayama would look like, he'd seem to be the perfect artist for pulling off a 100% photo-realistic version ^^;
I understand you fuckers don't know shit about art.
^ I don't understand you don't know shit about us.
The nose...Ye gods, the nostrils...
*hugs his Hachune Miku plushie and whimpers*
The leeks do nothing...
the face in general looks like a damn train wreck...
People are bitching about her legs HERE but not in that disjointed piece of shit figure that everyone was going on and on about a couple months ago? REALLY?
She looks beau*cough cough whore*tiful doesn't she?
But this just a futile rebellion soon they SHALL know the way of the MOE
@yuriphoria
I don't know if you're an artist, but either way that isn't exactly true. You don't need to be an artist to see that manga-styled art can have just as detailed character designs including super-realistic body details and proportions as works of western artists. It might not be the norm and depends on the artist, but you can't just dismiss that fact.
What the hell have they done to her legs!?! Are they made of rubber or something?!
No, this is not well done. Good coloration, but the actual lineart must have been truly horrendous.
Well it IS good artwork, and it's more realistic too. Probably took more time even.
It's manga art which simplifies and streamlines designs to unrealistic extents. Beautiful unrealistic extents.
"What the hell have they done to her legs!?! Are they made of rubber or something?!"
What, you mean the original anime versions are better? Jesus, they look like they don't have bones.
i like the pic un the most upper section
