Artefact, im just wondering if you understand what quality means? as there are a few different grades of cameras.

there are the cellphone may as well be web cam cameras
there are the realy thin poses that make you look “cool”
there is the traditional size camera which is where i say a bare minimum is in quality
than there is the low end slr, which are high quality but not HIGH quality
than you get into the consumer grade slr
than professional grade.

the onece you are talking about are consumer and pro grade slr cameras, among the highest quality. anyone who has a slr wont go back to non slr cameras.

the way you make it sound is like they are freaks for liking quality, which most of them are (there are ones that like the old ones because of the mechanics alone)
