Japanese anime fans supply an informal top 10 of anime which any viewer would be at a loss to miss – assuming they are not Type A of course…
1. K-ON!
2. Angel Beats!
3. Bakemonogatari
4. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
5. Gintama
6. Toradora!
7. To Aru Majutsu no Index
8. Haruhi
9. Durarara!!
10. Evangelion
The glaring absence of Madoka from the top of the list (Madoka manages a joint 12th with Code Geass, closely followed by Ore no Imouto at 13th) is of course likely down to it being not yet concluded at the time of voting.

Japanese opinion is different from American views. You can say Cowboy Bebop is good but not so much in Japan. Its like the PS3 and Xbox deal.
But the 360 sucks everywhere and lives only through those little 5 year Call of Duty Retards
Because American fans are outmoded.
US lack of imported games & anime from overseas.
Definetly, I'd never recommend K-On. The rest are good though.
What, you tried to learn play guitar, but never could?
What a bullshit list. Positions 1-4 should be burried in a pile of shit.
Who the fuck makes those lists?
1. Beebop
2. Samurai Champloo
3. Fullmetall Panic
4. Azumanga Daioh
5. Guren Lagann
6. Naruto episodes 1-120 (yeah, so fucking what?)
They are the best fucking thing I've ever seen.
I can't believe you've been voted down, i'm with you 100%. These may not be the best animes of all time for me but they are definitly worth watching a heck of a lot more than the original list.
just die u narutard.
Samurai Champloo didn't do as well in Japan as it did in America. The reason it did so well over here is thanks to Adult Swim, as with most animes that do good here. Just like how that garbage Naruto and Bleach did well was only thanks to CN and Teletoon. At least Samurai Champloo is good.
Gaah gundam, where the hell is gundam?!?!?!
Naruto and Bleach = Over-rated.
I would never watch either, even if I had a chance to watch them before the earth goes bye-bye.
K-ON! for the fun.
Evangelion for getting real.
=
Best shaken for Haruhi results.
I like how that sounds.
Announcement
For Haruhi Be afraid of the Endless Eight
though, depending on how hardcore of a Type B you are, KyoAni probably got you sold on that repetitive crap anyway.
For once, I couldn't agree more with a list. They've got it SPOT ON.
Why
isn't the Iconic Ghost in the Shell not included in this list?
Could it be that the poll takers are all teenie boppers - duh, yep!!
If you're referring to the movie, its because perpetual brooding broken up with bits of combat does not make a movie deep. Oshii effectively gave Kusenagi a lobotomy, because that's all the personality she had in the movie.
And BTW, I was a GitS fan long before the anime came out.
SAC on the other hand is actually good, and deserved to be on the list more than Evangelion did.
Nope, evangelion deserved the spot.
Everyone should experience ep 25 & 26 once in their lifetime.
Everyone should experience ep 25 and 26 of EVA?
Is that so we know what to do if we completely run out of money near the end of a project and want to finish it with zero money and planning by making up some random scenes with no animation on the fly?
I see you are pro-torture.
XD Poor child... You don't undertand the EP 25 & 26 ^^
17:04 No, I understand them, doesn't mean I have to like them...
Agree this list is gay ¬__¬ for poseurs, not for people who actually enjoys anime.
Sorry, but I was ready to see humanity extinct by episode 16 or something.
I was about to say how fucking dumb you are (calling Haruhi or Gintama unenjoyable), but arguing with idiots is pointless, so I won't.
Bye.
iconic? gits:sac is predictable shit.
gits:nut:sac!
I LOL'D!!!!!
Code Geass not even in top 10 is bull.
Trainwreck Geass? Its fun to watch, but doesnt deserves to be in the top 10.
Clearly it's a joke list. I mean, TTGL isn't even there. Unless they omitted a 0th place.
Because the poll takers are "Type B" fans: "Doesn’t care if story is awful... Loves moe elements. Doesn’t like complex anime."
The quality of, "plot", is just as subjective as anything else. Personally, Ghost in the Shell bored me to death. Not that there's anything wrong with liking it, but it just didn't hold my interest.
You know, just because K-ON is on top doesn't mean that every anime on the list is a fucking moeblob, you idiot.
Stop being so damn elitist about anime, people watch what they enjoy, and obviously watching something with a light story is enjoyable for more people than watching your beloved niche anime with heavy storylines.
I am pretty sure that evangelion counts as a complex anime. Also, I would consider Bakemonogatari and even maybe Haruhi animes that appeal to both a type A and type B audience.
hey, did everyone just forgot about death note?
That's one I'd put on a serious list like this. I've shown Death Note to a 40 year old coworker who doesn't watch anime at all and he still liked it. It's the kind of thing that isn't immediately alien to any non-otaku. K-On is the opposite.
Death Note? Top 10? Nah.
fuck deathnote
Hmm Fits into the other genres go Death Note ! ^^
death note was good for about 26 episodes.
I miss Clannad
Clannad is 11th.. and Kara no kyoukai is 25th!! Blasphemy!
11th? 25th? Blasphemy? This is madness! THIS IS SPARTAAAA
Meh, the novels were better
As well as Kanon Imho.
uguu~~

This list makes more sense if you add the qualifier 'recent.' Then it's quite a good list. But even then lacks quite a few of the best ones in recent times anyway.
Oh well. Doesn't matter anyway. Not like the list has anything particularly bad about it.
This list DEFINITELY lacks "Madoka Magica"
