I do still have a 4:3 Monitor, but with a resolution of 1280x1024. So Yeah.

*still has 1024x768 4:3 CRT as primary and only monitor*
But on a percentage basis, scaling 1024x768 -> 1440x1080 is BETTER than scaling 640x480 -> 1024x768. And If 640x480 content looks okay on my screen, 1024x768 shouldn't look that bad on a 1080p screen.

@Anon 10:41 -- Somehow I doubt eroge have the budget to go all the way to 1440x1080 for a remaster (or a new game for that matter), much less add to the image to make everything 16:9. Unless you want them to add the black pillarboxing bars you'd be getting anyway... which would also screw things up and create windowboxing on 4:3 displays.

That said, I also use a monitor with a 4:3 1024x768 native resolution - it's my secondary.

True, "upgrading" from really tiny 800x600 to not quite as tiny 1024x768 is hardly worth the effort.
They should've been using 1280x960 at the very least, if they're already redoing it.
Optimally though, they would be using 1920x1080 (with the option of scaling the images down for people still on antique computers with tiny resolution).

I don't really mind the mosaics in 2D. Maybe I am just used to them now, but I think it really helps shift the focus to more interesting things, anyway.
