The USA has been aiding Japan’s quake ravaged north with large deployments of troops, aircraft and carriers as part of “Operation Tomodachi,” and the extent of their efforts has earned the undying gratitude of Japanese in the affected regions and beyond.
Some of the scenes at US relief operations, where the US navy and air force (here mostly the USS Ronald Reagan and the Black Knights) and took a prominent role:
Even 2ch is moved:
“As expected of our friends!”
“USA! USA!”
“They’re so handsome. It’s like a movie, really.”
“I could cry. We’re truly grateful, America!”
“Sorry we were so hard-hearted. It seems America was our only friend after all.”
“They are really used to this stuff, aren’t they?”
“They really are tool cool. What is this sense of security I feel…”
“Please make Japan a state.”
“Guys who have seen actual combat are in a different class.”
“They are heroes, seriously.”
“As expected of our master! Japan will remain by your side as your Pochi forever!”
“Rather than seeing our government’s incomprehensible press conferences, seeing the US army on the ground is much more reassuring.”
“The SDF isn’t bad, but seeing this you can really tell how badly Japanese lack decisiveness.”
“I got wet when I saw this on the news. America can have me any time!”
“They seriously look too cool! USA!! USA!! USA!! USA!!”
“The USA is truly Japan’s ally!”
“If God made the world into a feature film America would be the protagonist.”
“Americans may be stupidly optimistic but they are certainly brave and believe in justice.”
“It’s amusing that we can rely on another nation’s armed forces more than we can our own government…”
“I cried!”
Japan for its part has deployed virtually the entire SDF into the region, and its civilian sector is certainly no slouch at rebuilding either:
It’s remarkable to go to see this site and reading the views of all mates on the topic of this paragraph, while I am also keen of getting know-how.
I don’t even know the way I finished up here, however I thought this publish was great. I don’t realize who you are but certainly you are going to a well-known blogger when you are not already. Cheers!
looool,2ch=not japan
Most Japanese think it is embarrassing…
America: Say it with me! LOVE AND PEACE!
DAT SOLID 7 HELICOPTER PILOT CHICK
…Have the Hetalia fans drawn fanart of this tsudere craziness yet? “OH YEAH! Take care of me America! Just like that! Mmmmm!”
lol
Wow, even 2ch… disaster really does bring us together.
CNN reported yesterday that the number of US personnel helping in Japan is 42x (forty-two times!) as many as all the disaster assistance personnel there from the rest of the world combined.
They repeated it twice to make sure they were being clear. Even the newscaster looked stunned.
Even though that will include a lot of sailors on the ships, it’s still pretty impressive.
Damn what is wrong with people?! o.O Are they not seeing the same disaster images we are or something? They need help! I hope they are at least donating to make up for the lack of people.
Several days ago, in one of those other countries:
Local national news feed: “A huge earthquake and tsunami have rocked Japan, causing massive damage, killing many people, and displacing many others.”
Local aid worker: “Did you hear that? We need to get over there and help those unfortunate people out! Come on, pack your things! No better way to help them!”
Local national news feed: “This just in: the Fukushima nuclear plant has just been damaged by the earthquake and tsunami, and is potentially spewing all kinds of radioactivity into the air as it heads for meltdown.”
Local aid worker: “Yes, money! Send lots of money! That’s the best way to help them!”
In case anyone was curious, I’m reading through the comments on 2chan and most of them are absolutely gracious and thankful. Few are sarcastic.
After this im gonna expect a bashing on U.S. government forgetting the fact that they help there.
Take what you can get from them and tell the US to LEAVE!
But I’m sure you all saw that coming.
well, i’m jealous of the jugheads. wish i could be there.
“Sorry we were so hard-hearted. It seems America was our only friend after all.”
You say this NOW? After all the shit you guys have said about us? After half of facebook is telling you to rot in your own feces?
How long will this attitude of yours last? 2 weeks 3 at the most before you go back to calling is sub-humans.
Your last minute change-of-heart won’t last. I’m not buying it.
the last picture, god damn, talk about quake rebuilding. this is the kind of response you need when you get hit with an (Earthquake + Tsunami) – Meltdown
regardless, I would like to see more volunteers from the Atomic Energy Commission, or the International group regarding Atomic Energy, to step up and aid the friggin 50 to solve that meltdown issue
I can’t wait for the reaction on 2ch when someone posts the collage of “revenge for Pearl Harbor” comments from Facebook :3
The roads are freaking crazy talk about fast!
Thank you God for letting the US peeps to help out Japan!
Fighto, minna!!
We hope you recover quickly Japan.
SO the americans get it right but my own goverment dosnt, when you gonna bring up the news about the UK team sent over only to be sent back becasue of the wrong papers given to them and the Uk embbasy not writing up the correct info for the men.
…o_O Did they ever go back?
>Even 2ch is moved
What is this… softening feeling in my chest?
Maybe we deserve thanks enough to get a port of Monster Hunter Frontier?
That’s asking to much. lol
“AMERICAAAA, FUCK YEAH! COMING AGAIN, TO SAVE THE MOTHER FUCKING DAY YEAH!”
Pft, never any love for canada :(,
we offered japan help and we still havent gotten back a responce 🙁
Canada can sell them some better reactors I looked up the ACR-1000 it would be a good replacement for the Mark I BWRs that’ll need replacing and would not fail like Fukushima.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_CANDU_Reactor
Don’t worry Canada, we love you. Where would America be without it’s hat?
I never understood why everyone Disses Canada in the international community. It seems like a nice place. Hey it is even in my top 3 places to live besides the U.S. Since I am an American.
Could someone post a link of the video? (or at least the Japanese key wording or title) I see a whole bunk of links when I searched for youtube or .com in the comments but only one seemed to have a partial clip of it. Thanks.
Give it a couple of months and 2ch will be back to calling us foreign pigs.
I’m waiting for the inevitable ‘guile’s theme goes with everything’ video.
I will quote something that i learned from blazblue recently.
“Hypocricy is a homage that vice pays to virtue.”
Damm 2ch folks, one day, USA is the evil, now their friends.
WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY SMOKING?
For the record.
http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/12/17/85-japan-should-possess-nuclear-weapons/
3. In the event of an emergency, do you think the USA would protect Japan?
Yes: 22%
No: 78%
The US isn’t alone there. There are a bunch of Kiwis and Aussies there, too, military and civilian. A lot of them came in through Yokota.
And a couple weeks ago, I saw a road crew replacing a section of pavement, a couple dozen yards of it. Between when I rode by and saw them jackhammering, and riding by again seeing (roped off) fresh, flat pavement in place was less than an hour. Yeah they’re fucking fast.
2ch hates foreigners. This article must’ve been written by someone unfamiliar with 2ch.
I see the Americans brought a lot pack of mineral water… Then the JSDF should bring a lot pack of.. MORNING RESCUE..!
Because a tsundere, a tsundere never changes.
I guess having a world police has its ups too.
THIS IS THE AMERICA I KNOW AND LOVE
USA sure knows how to make a good commercial…
The german TH(technisches hilfwerk)helped too
so wtf ?!
With what, distributing Nazi propaganda? YET AGAIN?!
whats ur problem? just telling the truth
To think we Americans were Pig Shit by 2ch standers before the earthquake. It just doesn’t feel right being considered … ‘friends’ I hope it doesn’t take long for 2ch to recover it’s ego. But it’s so cute that they have a heart and to say something nice about Americans thats double the points.
2Ch is not the opinion of all of Japan.
About time they showed shots of our men looking for survivors and aiding Japan’s citizens.
It feels like every time there’s a disaster abroad, no one credits our American volunteers & military aid.
im listen Claris’ “Irony” while reading this topic
The Russians are offering great help too if am not mistaken and the Japanese response had been anything but bad. They aren’t only doing press releases at all. This 2Ch fellows go nationalistic over other bullshit and they can’t see that the Japanese departments really are doing a great job after a disaster and excluding the power company they also did a great job before the disaster too?
Anyway Americans know how to get themselves on TV so no strange seeing them as being presented like the big rescuers. I’m sure they are helping but even their army is a media whore.
Cute 2ch is going in Tsundere mode.
Once the whole accident of the quake and the tsunami is over they will stop being Dere Dere and go back to being Tsun Tsun when they remember the fansubing we did. lol ^_^;
http://english.people.com.cn/90001/98649/7320772.html
China’s Jilin Provincial Party Committee and the Jilin Provincial Government have donated 100,000 U.S. dollars to its sister city in Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture to help its people rebuild their homes.
I get that it’s a big movement and good on the US, I’m a little disappointed in England right now as they seem to be doing fuck all but worrying about the british people over there but still, 2ch are over the top as usual. I can’t believe one of them referred to America as their master >.>;;;
I got hard looking at American
well, only now the USA go and help the people who need, but they may have another reason to help -q
Japan + Germany = true buddys
Well I heard Germany makes good chocolate so…
You are confusing Germany with Belgium.
Oh… then yeah I can’t think of any good things about Germany.
BTW even China is sending out help to Japan: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english2010/china/2011-03/17/c_13784246.htm
The first relief package — 2,000 blankets, 900 cotton tents and 200 emergency lights — was delivered early this week.
On Wednesday, Beijing boosted aid to Japan by pledging 20,000 tonnes of fuel — 10,000 tonnes of gasoline and 10,000 tonnes of diesel.
A total of 10 tonnes of drinking water assisted by Changchun City will be transported to quake-hit areas in Japan on Thursday.
Be careful of using Chinese products aides…you should check before use whether it’s already out of date ( just a warning though )
If Japan goes to ruin, China’s house of deck economy will also get fucked. And they’re smart enough to see it. Chinese government isn’t run by the immature over zealout netizens.
Just about every single countries on the planet has a stack in Japan not failing. Thus are doing what they can to help.
Oh Japan … you’re grateful now…
But give it time and every time you’ll open your mouth you’ll get the “WHO WAS HERE TO SAVE YOUR ASS BIATCH?!” treatment …
Cause the people that help you now may be nice and all deserving ,but you’ll have every fatty and brat of the nation who didn’t do shit for you think you owe THEM for your country …
The Japanese government is very poor at handling disasters as shown by Kobe and also flight 123 crash
I’ve had enough of this anti-usa mania over the last 2 decades. Would any one want the chinese to rule the world ? or the russians?!
They know most crimes near bases are done by Americans, right?
more like black americans.
That guy looks remarkably like Brandon Frasier.
American: Oh well. We have nuke them twice, might as well save them from nuke at least once. Now for gratitude, can you start shipping anime to America?
AMERICUUH FUUCK YEAAH! FREEDOM IS THE ONLY WAAY YEEAAHH!
On another note, that’s the same road only 4 days ago? shits fast..
The mother nature bring human together and reduce the hate eh?
Holy f*ck at the last image!
Four freaking days to fix that! that’s so awesome but sad as well we can’t even get that quick service here in the USA fixing our own streets & highways to be fixed of the same stretch in a single month!!
You’re an idiot. They didn’t fix the road they just moved the camera 200ft. You can see the construction in the background for the first image.
The one that said
“Please make Japan a state.”
If that happens then there will be no more mosiacs on Japanese porn!
Is it me or does that pilot in the first few images look like…Putin?
I found some of those 2ch response kinda funny. “Make Japan a state.” I loled. I’m not saying I would be opposed to it if Japan applied for statehood, nor would I be in favor for it. I mean I love Japan but I don’t know how to feel about this statement…
COOL NO PASS PORTS TO VISIT I AM IN~~
Truly, Friend is hard at work behind the scenes.
/20thCenturyBoys
so 2ch feels the need to be sarcastic that a foreign country is aiding them when their own government is slow to get on the ball with this situation.
if you can’t say something nice, just shut the fuck and move on.
Some of them are being sarcastic. If you look at the video comments most people are being genuinely appreciative.
See we Americans are not all assholes, Some of us actually have a heart and want to help
It’s not the politicians that we should trust, but the people out on the front lines who are putting their hearts and souls into trying to make the world a better place for all of us.
“Sorry we were so hard-hearted. It seems America was our only friend after all.”
I’ve heard that russian rescue teams are already there, too (6 planes were ready the next day after the quake).
USA + Japan = world domination
Why is that humans everyday hate each other and when tragedy strikes everyone suddenly hugs and cries.
Humans are weird.
I cried.
A republic is NOT a democracy. The whole concept of the republic was created by Plato as an outcry against democracy. The greek city states had democracy. The Romans were a republic. Republic != democracy.
>The Romans were a republic.
Only after they kicked the Etruscan kings out – and of course Iulius eviscerated it.
Further, given that a republic is a state where (a significant fraction of) the people controls the government, and that a democracy is a state where people (directly or indirectly) control the government by casting votes, it follows that every democracy is a republic and that, given human nature, non-democratic republics are doomed to fail.
That’s why soviet and national socialist republics are republics in name only – they’re really communist and fascist dictatorships.
Having a republic is a goal, and democracy is the only known means to achieve it.
Wished the First Lady of Malaysia can learn something from this after uttering her stupid line despite the fact that Japan helped them during the 2004 Tsunami tragedy.
wow, that was a quick fix on the road.
here in Canada that amount of work would have taken 3 years.
They came…
Nice, but unfortunately this won’t last.
It won’t be long before Japan and US are at it at each others necks as if the earthquake never happened.
America, Fuck yeah!!
Hmn what about the us military bases in hokaido?
now you see why you shouldn’t oust the americans
Does somebody have the link to the video?
It was posted somewhere in this sea of comments.
Thanks. I see a whole bunk of links when I searched for youtube or just .com in the comments but all of them don’t seem to be the full video like above. Could someone post it?
Im a US troop stationed in Japan. I’m not on the mainland, but I know we are sending aid to help with the relief efforts, and in every squadron on base there is a collection box for clothing, food, money, etc etc. There is also talks of sending Marines into the evacuated areas to help with efforts.
LOL, an AMerican troop visiting THIS website?
Good news is to hear them happy to see the US.
This is grate and all but can America really afford to help Japan. Billions of dollars in debt and Japan is probably one of the countries America owes.
Well I guess they should help this really makes Haiti look like a joke, some of Japan’s aftershocks were stronger than Haiti’s initial quake plus they didn’t have a tsunami and potential nuclear meltdown.
By the way, if anyone has video of this kind of thing, please share it with us!
Wow, what an about-face from 2ch’s usual comments…
But then again, who ever takes their comments seriously anyway?
we dont just speak a big game!
Hopefully, since Japanese now view USA as their friends, we’ll get more anime and merchandise overseas once the problem is over.
japan is been viewing USA as an ally since after WW2
well you know seriously the way things are going in this world and what i hear about japan in the future we and them should seriously start thinking into moving into the usa or something seriuosly…isnt their land going to be under sea or keep getting worse with the things thats happening in their land?
America : Idiot! I’m not doing this I like you or anything… It’s because it’s the right thing to do…
Japan : Kya~!
I find this kinda funny seeing how, they are usually calling americans hairy barbarians but now that they help them its like <3 marry me.
Well the women always wanted to marry Americans. It was the guys calling Americans hairy barbarians… probably for stealing their women.
I honestly don’t know what to think. I’m grateful that they’re grateful and I’m glad they’ve been given a much needed morale boost but wow, opinion whiplash much? At least I can see this as a message to all the people who claimed it was karma to go fuck themselves. HARD!
4 days to fix a road and it takes workers in tallahassee 2 months to pave a 20 by 40 parkinglot!!!
They must use magic because i fucking can’t believe it.
That magic is called poker. (Or were you talking about the Japanese?)
See? You can count on the USA if China invades.
They should really make the line straight in 012, though…
This warms my heart, really. I have nothing bad to say about Japan anymore.
I do find it disturbing that according to 2ch posts, US seems to be the only country helping out. Where the fuck is everyone else? I mean, our people can handle it but every little bit helps.
You’re very welcome Japan, but we’re just getting started in helping you out! Although I’m not sure that you’d want to be a state of ours… we’re kind of in the middle of government protests and recall elections from these Republican assholes taking away our rights and civil liberties.
Aren’t we kinda taking this insulting a lil bit too far?
Hell yeah.
Aww well, whatever you guys say then…..this is getting fun though 😀
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8nMOUxhydY
That was him??
Jesus Christ, that vid was effing hilarious xD
Pfft, thats all? I fucked his ass so hard he begged me to go DEEPER as he moaned.
Whether the countries have bad past or rival to each other, when it comes to crisis we help each other regardless of who you are. We are globally inter-connected. And its not just US, South Korea, China Australia, New Zealand, a lot of countries from Europe etc – are aiding Japan whatever they can… I’m so grateful that most of nations around the world are helping Japan.
Creator of Pokemon died today! Just heard it around the internet.
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2011/03/16/134588674/pokemon-creator-in-good-health
That was a rumor.
All I gotta say is: if you love anime, manga, and Japanese culture, donate some cash to whatever organization you think will actually do some good. Or buy crazy amounts of stock in Japanese companies. Do SOMEthing!
Japan <3 USA?
Well, USA <3 Japan…
That's why we're all here, right?
For now, lets put Fansubs and dubs and pirating and what-not aside: stop being cheap, and lets help a brutha out.
sankaku complex, praising the U.S. for once?
is this the right site, I though we were white uncultured pigs to all of you.
Yeah, I was shocked seeing this. I was waiting for the article to turn negative.
The US Navy needs a badass heroic theme song cause they’re so awesome.
“in the navy” by the village people-duh!
That’s your preference.
“America, Fuck Yeah!”
How bout we love it. 😉
dont be shy.you love it.
japan is spineless. other countries are helping them but they only acknowledge USA.
They ARE acknowledging the other countries. These comments were made about a specific news report about the US aid being flown in. That should have been obvious to you from all the screenshots of the news. But hey… I guess we can’t all be smart.
Thats because the USA is helping more than anyone else at the moment. The USA ALSO HAS MILITARY BASES ALL OVER JAPAN. I hate stupid people.
The US is one of the few countries that didn’t turn tail and run at the radiation threat.
The 4 knights of the apocalypse? I played poker with them last week.
They could not read my poker face :3
Stuff like this is what re-affirms the idea that joining the Air Force last year was probably the best decision I’ve made with my life. Next to becoming an otaku.
military otakus? ugh.
you’ve been giving us FREE ANIME via subs so you guys really deserved it.
It would be really beautiful if it was only about friendship, but it’s mainly about politcs to keep Japan in debt with the US government.
I salute you all, American Soldiers.
I imagine a fat nerd screaming this as he’s typing after spitting out his piping hot grape juice. :3
This is pretty cool, working together it’s nice to see that in times like these people can really have each other’s backs.
Let’s not get left behind, anons. We should all do our part and donate.
Yo Artefact? How ’bout putting up a sponsored link to the Red Cross or other relief aid charities?
Wow, and I thought Japanese folks are xenophobic samurais. Lol.
It’s good to see humanity once in a while. ^_^
they are
at least someone appreciates us being nice to them for once!
fucking haitians threw away a lot of the food we gave them, the unappreciative fuckers.
We give them food, God gives them AIDS.
And so the first move of our secret attack is made.
This story was awesome, made mei truly proud of mei country!! Thanks guys we are rooting for you to help Japan while we send out prayers and support from here. ^_^
very cute operation name
It looks like a movie indeed.
“Our bonds are of nature, and require no gratitude”.
This is why despite all the hate on america…
The men and women who serve in the united states armed services will ALWAYS be respected in my mind.
Finally! A positive article!
Too much negativity since this all went down.
America! FUCK YEAH!
Worthy of praise. We’re all brothers when it counts.
OK first and foremost, is a good thing that a country is helping another one, but Japan should not allow another country to clean their mess.
“As expected of our master! Japan will remain by your side as your Pochi forever!”
I dont know who wrote this comment, but apparently someone likes to be someone else’s bitch. The U.S is not Japan’s master, the only reason the U.S is helping Japan the way that they are right now, is because Japan is the 3rd largest super power in the world and an a key ally to the U.S. If Japan was just another country, this massive deployment would not had happen.
The Japanese government should be concentrating on getting their citizens trust back, because once you loose their trust you loose your nation as well. Lets not forget that the U.S loves to conquer those that are weak, and bomb the fuck out of the ones that dont agree with them. Like I said before is a good thing that they are helping, but the Japanese government should not rely on someone else to fix their problems, specially the nuclear problem that they are having with those nuclear plants.
If we bomb everyone we disagree with, why haven’t we laid waste to most of Europe? That’s the one place in the world I’d applaud US military aggression.
Getting international aid =/= having someone else fix your problems. And the US doesn’t conquer people as part of it’s foreign policy not to take anymore land than it has. Also, if the US bombed everyone it disagreed with, there would be a lot of bombs going off right now. Maybe you should stop believing everything you hear.
you really dont know what the fuck your talking about do you?
Japan is important to the global economy as well, if they’re fucked then so are we. I heart globalism.
OK first and foremost, is a good thing that a country is helping another one, but Japan should not allow another country to clean their mess.

“Please make Japan a state.”
Dear Anonymous Japanese Internet User,
Thank you for your interest in statehood, but we will have to decline at this time. Unfortunately, we already have a state bordering the Pacific that is billions in debt and prone to having earthquakes, and believe me, the other 49 of us have been trying to break that lease for years. We do like the fact that a larger percentage of your residents are fluent in English, and you are much less likely to riot and loot at the drop of a hat, so we will keep your contact information and get back to you as soon as a position opens up.
Could you imagine? Japan being a recognized state, while Porto Rico continues to dodge us? The LOLs alone would be sooo worth it.
So true, especially the part about them knowing more English.
As a California resident, I am LOLing pretty hard.
As a native born non-transplanted-hippie Californian, I wholeheartedly love your post. I’d gladly give up statehood and give it to Japan… IF I could trade my condo in Silicon Valley for a studio somewhere western Japan-ish (less radiation).
I like this post. Would read again.
But hey maybe they can be a colonized unincorporated satellite island of US territory. You know but officially this time.
USA USA USA!
today helping Japan, tomorrow invading Libya
Eh, no thanks? Libya’s close to Europe, why don’t you guys deal with it for once instead of doing nothing?
Where do you get yours news from, BBC?
Former Army grunt reporting.
Good to see our boys finally getting some love.
I just hope they don’t squander it by doing something stupid as usual, like killing some grandma or raping some chick.
US and Japan are allies, we have many of the same goals. Too bad we’re nitpicking at each other 95% of the time. Here’s to more US/Nippon lovin.
What? So when nothing’s going on in Japan, they kinda want the US military to get the fuck out but when a quake, wave and threat of nuke going off they turn around and just loves us.
And once again, America helps out another country in it’s time of need. Maybe this will show the rest of the world that we’re not a bunch of fascist pigs.
Not many people like US these days, but to give credit where credit’s due. While many of the international relief team are talking about leaving due to the radiation scare. The Americans are the only who made it clear they’re gonna see this through regardless of the radiation.
I donated to the Red Cross for their Japanese efforts, but otherwise I’m not sure what else to do. Hope it gets some few water bottles to people or something at least. :-/
Glad to see some of the anti-American xenophobia die down, at least for a bit. Hopefully this reminds the more pro-Chinese Japanese folks that China may look better in some ways on paper, but unlike China we actually mostly like Japan. Japan’s one of the few countries, the others being Canada and the UK, that I always considered to be kind of blood brother friend instead of just a normal “ally”. Just like the others, we had our fights while growing up (or rebelled against our parents in the case of the UK) but we get along just peachy since we grew up. Enough torturing of that analogy.
At any rate. I just hope the Japanese leadership (and maybe a few other countries who are being stingy) gets its head on straight and helps these people. Times like this are when you have to look past the politics and help people in need. There was a great article in the NY times today about how the shifts in power structure among Japanese elites have left us with these weak disposable PMs for the past few years, hopefully this crisis slaps some sense into the political establishment.
Ah now thats what I love to see nations aiding each other, no racism or shit like that. In the end we are all human and must be there to help each other. Good Luck Japan! just keep being strong
We gave to Haiti cause we are nice. We give to Japan cause JAPAN IS AWESOME!
Best buddies forever!
been saying it for years… next to England, no country is as close an ally as Japan.
Rerouting my summer trip from Barcelona to Tokyo… again… ugh… but I feel the best way to support them is not to dump money to the Red Cross, but to go there and spend some bucks.
… that is if I don’t need to invest in lead underpants first…
I’m well accustomed to USA hate, and much of what is said I believe to hold water. Even so, I know the country provides education, less-corrupt-than-elsewhere law enforcement, and many other services. The country lets anyone climb the ladder, there’s enough Oprah episodes to prove it. The media showcases the asshole citizens, but the country itself does a lot of respectable stuff. Many countries wish they had a harsh FDA making things rough for small business (lol soy sauce) and other regulations.
I know the USA is the big noisy one, the pushy and nosy one, the attention whore, the fat and sedentary. At the same time, I know the USA puts effort into handing out freebies and foreign aid, at being the UN’s muscle, and sometimes I think it goes unappreciated during all the still-justified USA hate.
Anyway, what I really wanted to say is I’m glad this isn’t a hate article. Even if it’s just “cool, free lewts” and one of those rare POSITIVE media slants, it’s a surprise to realize how used to cultural bashing I’ve become. Can’t we all get along? The US and Canada seem to get along just fine, no matter what snarky stuff is said behind the others back.
Because they’re the hero Japan deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So, we’ll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.
They still don’t like foreigners. Just bring food and water and get out. You can’t stay!
Here are some vids I found about the US response. There are heart-warming comments from Japanese people in the vids. It’s just nice after seeing all the sad videos.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umn70pVyPgU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNk-pLhCWNQ
The second vid was made as a thank you.
Wow I thought this was a movie
DANG THEY Have a lot of helping hands
Sees a very well organized line well USA USA for once.
Although we are all at standby waiting if they need more help
But please make us a state seems a bit extreme
well at least both the japanese has something to be happy about and the americans to be proud of. Singapore sent only 5 men and 5 dogs to aid japan, and the moment theres news of nuclear leakage, they came back… I am not proud at all.
Okay please tell me that’s a joke. PLEASE. FIVE?! xD
So touching to see the decrease in racism~
Let’s face it; there are bad people in the world, and there are good people in the world. Every country has some of each. The US happens to have a lot of money and political power, so sometimes people think American dickishness is extremely high, but so can be American generosity (American citizens are the most generous in terms of sheer magnitude of private foreign aid; the American government is one of the most generous for official).
why isn’t South Korea helping out. They’re so close to Japan
South Korea is helping, they are keeping North Korea away. There actually is a big argument between South Korea and Japan as well as about with every other country in Asia. Maybe 2 chan can explain some of those.
of course they are helping, and many other countries too, but why should Sankaku/the US media show that ?
America is doing it to feel good/get political good karma, ignoring the other countries
To be fair, America is pretty much the biggest relief group in Japan right now. Simply due to the fact American has the biggest navy in the world and thus the most well equipt for these international humanity missions. Having bases in Japan also speeded up their response time.
As planned.
Stop being stupid. The US new always shows how the entire world is helping because there are people from all over the world in the US. Many of our relief efforts also heavily depend on international help. The cable news networks always update when someone new steps in to aid Japan.
“So why did the US government fund Egypt’s and Libya’s autocratic dictators for so many years, until the people couldn’t take things no more? How was that helping anything? Certainty not for the people.”
The fuck are you going on about? Do you always get on your soapbox for unrelated topics? What does this have to do with international aid? We’re talking about how the US is airing news about how other countries are also helping Japan. What are YOU talking about?
Yeah, there is usually a worldwide spot about the countries that are mobilizing around the world, as well as a running tally on the relief aid coming in. It motivates people to help more and makes them feel united and good that their donations are being put to use. The US also coordinates it’s relief efforts with other countries since it’s aid chapters have expanded. Since there are so many people from other countries that live in the US, it’s natural to talk about what the rest of the world is doing. I expect it’s the same with the other melting pot countries.
wow, so the US Media credited South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Germany etc for help ?
So why did the US government fund Egypt’s and Libya’s autocratic dictators for so many years, until the people couldn’t take things no more? How was that helping anything? Certainty not for the people.
Anyone else hear Guile’s theme?
“Please make Japan a state.”
Heck if it was up to me I’d give them Michigan to live in.
It’s official: Everyone on 2ch are really just tsundere. They say all these mean things to hide the fact that deep down they love us Americans just as much as we love them =D
Yea, I love Japan! How can I not assume that someone of my age living in Japan grew up with overlapping cultural similarities? I mean, shit, I had tomagatchis and watched Dragonball Z everyday afterschool. Not to mention, my brothers and I started playing music at age 3 through the Suzuki method and I loved/love asian food (despite the lack of authenticity in my small town). As a percussionist, Japanese music is the entire other half of all repertoire written for the instrument, not to mention Keiko Abe being the creator of the modern marimba. Oh, and taiko drumming is the shit (shimedaiko being my favorite)
🙂
Your welcome Japan. We know you would do it for us.
Japanese response to Katrina.
Japan has pledged more than $1.5 million in private donations. The government of Japan has donated $200,000 in cash to the American Red Cross and some $800,000 in relief supplies — from blankets to generators — already are arriving to aid the most needy. Japanese firms with operations in the United States have donated some $12 million in total, including Honda Motor Corporation ($5 million), Hitachi ($1 million) and Nissan (more than $750,000).

Hmm really? i might have to reconsider what i think about my country but they have done alot of bad things befor its really hard to say if i am gonna change my view of usa.. so many things i hear i dont even know what to think anymore or who to believe.. sorry im all whacky i know lol
Keikaku Doori :3
Always lovely to see humans work hard together in hard times.
A bit lolish tho when there usually are so many ppl trolling/hating towards the americans at 2ch but now when they need them it sound different.
Am I the only one whose reading a bit of sarcasm in their compliments?
SUUUUUURE you are….
lololololololol, hes really gonna say that now xD
Glad to see that Japan is getting help. Fuck yeah US of A!
We take care of our friends in need. Japan is an important ally, so we have no issues with the support.
This article made me happy.
I’m just glad Japan is getting support.
I know I’m going to hear from the Daily Show all of the crap about helping them, but the Japanese really needed this.
I’m proud of my country right now.
“Americans may be stupidly optimistic but they are certainly brave and believe in justice.”
Is this why Americans in anime are always laughing and smiling like… all the time no matter what is going on? LOL. That’s such a weird stereotype! xD “Damn that fucking American… he’s so fucking optimistic! Shit!”
Well i think a less known stereotype of the Japanese are that they really are negative about stuff, at least the males i think.
“Rather than seeing our government’s incomprehensible press conferences, seeing the US army on the ground is much more reassuring.”
“It’s amusing that we can rely on another nation’s armed forces more than we can our own government…”
They are talking about YOU Ishihara!
Glad to see aid pouring in.
It’s been awhile since I’ve last seen anything heartwarming on the news.
Thats true. And more help is underway.
Adobo and trailmix…
Nice to see some good feelings and sentiment coming out of America, proud of our boys and girls doing some good over there. Hope it all helps.
well it’s good to know that at least these guys aren’t getting overshadowed by the shall we say, more inept, people that have saying idiotic things in the past.
Holy shit! They are flying in Progresso soup? That shits the bomb!
They are eating better than I am. xD
Indeed, America is quite the pro at sending Japan “the bomb”
regarding the last pic….

wtf is this shit ?
An american feel good show ?
The rest of the world has also donated money and sent helpers, where is our credit ?
Love them or hate them, USA is the biggest foreign relief group in Japan right now. And that is a fact.
Having a hug ass and ultra expensive navy kinda also gives you an advantage in humanitarian missions aside from war.
They are getting credit too, but this was in response to a specific news report.
And also how America needs to be number 1 at saying they’re number 1.
U MAD?
No, but apparently you are.
The LAFD and all the other people who volunteered to go over are awesome.
I feel happy for Japan but I couldn’t resist laughing my ass off at these comments compared to what 2ch said about Sankaku while back.
Makes me more angry at those pricks who actually praising the tsunami though.
“Please make Japan a state.”
My response as an American to this:
No, we shouldn’t get that close, but we can be really good friends with benefits. We love you, Japan!
Someone who knows Japanese, please get this back to 2ch!
Oh thank god somebody help
Its cute how 2ch opinion of America changes. Japan is so moe its ridiculous.. a nation of Tsundere. America-oniichan is here to protect its kawaii imouto.
It makes me proud to be a member of the US Navy! Hooyah!!
lol so hard
…to protect and serve goshujin-sama.
Your idea is making me nosebleed: someone make this anime right now.
My Land of the Rising Sun can’t possibly be this cute?
Perhaps Hetalia should do a skit on this, though it is probably too soon.
“Sorry we were so hard-hearted. It seems America was our only friend after all.” well it’s not that easy for most other countries than for USA.
@tsundere totally agree.
true, many countries don’t have those kind of resources to deploy but are still sending aid in the form of supplies and donations to the japanese red cross.
Well, it simply takes a bit longer for europe to send help – the US is simply right around the corner.
I guess a nation so devoted to military stuff has good sides as well..
Change that to “kawaii hideyoshi” and I’m down.
wtf is this shit ?
An american feel good show ?
The rest of the world has also donated money and sent helpers, where is our credit ?
Anyone non-asian looking is ‘American’ in Japan.
And it’s not like Japan is admitting hordes of volunteer rescuers either. They are just accepting small teams of professional rescuers properly approved of by the Japanese embassies.
In contrast, Americans happened to have a small army stationed overthere already.
In any case, it’s nice to see help being delivered and appreciated.
It’s probably back with your navy, chilling at port, although it might be with the UN “troops”, also chilling at port.
Unless you went through charities like the Red Cross, in which case your help is extremely appreciated, but unidentifiable as anything other than “Red Cross”.
As soon as you change your name to “America” you’ll get it
America and Japan:
Bros 4 lyfe.
Bros (America and Japan) before Hoes (Mother Nature)
Just Remember…Give Us all of Sailor Moon & Digimon for a cheaper price and we call it even *winks* XD
Loves Japan X3
Wow a non depressing article!
Suddenly everyone is glad to have the airforce bases in okinawa.
Lucky coincidence, I guess? It’s not like it’s there for the sole purpose of protecting Japan from nature. And it’s awkward how Sankaku only covers the U.S. efforts and completely forgets about everyone else’s input.
I won’t be surprised if 10 years from now western history books will preach America as the saviour of Japan from a M9.0 apocalypse. Even though, in reality, all they did was deploy some military vehicles that happened to be close-by since the end of WWII.
“And it’s awkward how Sankaku only covers the U.S. efforts and completely forgets about everyone else’s input.”
It’s actually the Japanese news agency who do that, for them America = All of the occidental world.
Japan is only covering the US. The US is covering the world wide effort with constant updates on it’s cable news networks. I dunno what everyone else is doing.
I do think this is nice and all but realize this:
The U.S. has several bases in Japan. How bad would it look if they just sat around after this earthquake and not offer any help when they are supposed to be there to protect Japan (albeit not from the damage of a natural disaster)?
…but really though, do people think we’d leave one of our most allies with nothing at a time like this? It was never a question of if the US would help, military bases or not.
Doyt… you have no idea of the extent of self-loathing in Western History books do you?
Western History books since WWI and especially after the 60s go to lengths to criticize the West and raise everything else to the skies.
If anything is akward its Artefact, but he’s a fun and fairly honest if biased guy so I don’t mind.
Well, if Japan has its own military power, probably japanese troops will be deployed and not american troops from the american bases here in japan. It just so happened that the americans made a rule that japan can’t build its own military force, that’s why there are only SDF, and SDF is just a small number to cover all the places affected by the tragedy.. It’s good that they really are on to it… support I mean.. 🙂 but if war breaks out sometime next year or the coming years because of the thoughts of other nut cracks, “it’s end of the world! let’s conquer other countries, lets bombard japan, they just got SDF.. they wont be able to hit us back. >:)” it will be a pretty shitty situation, if you ask me..
It is biased and a very specific perspective you’re using just so you can say something. OMG Earthquake is reason to occupy Okinawa. Can’t imagine maybe they actually want to help the Japanese?
And for your information those ‘I IZ DESTROYERs’ helicopter carriers of yours sure convince me Japan doesn’t have a strong and capable military, starting with its navy.
(I’m Half Chinese, and not American btw)
Anyway, yeah, you’re one cold fish.
That is all true but the alternative of accepting less help from USA of course is not really an option. Tragedy in many unseen ways maybe?
Well, precisely. This might be a biased view, but then again, if you’d view the earthquake from a specific perspective, all the Japanese tragedy brought America was a new excuse to occupy Okinawa, as well as due to the enormous financial loses, any rumoured attempts of Japan to break the rule and start building its own military no longer have a future.
For a moment a i read the article i began to become proud that i’m an american. and then i started reading all your comments….way to live up to your name.
Wait till they recover, things will go back to normal.
yeah give it time, everything will be back to normal…
J: wtf, why are the americans still here?
I hope everyone realizes that they mostly helped transport SDF equipment and supplies because Japan lacks carriers. But once radiation was detected, they split, while SDF are still doing search and rescue missions…SDF FTW!
If you wanna bitch about that. Many other foreign relief teams are talking of leaving because of the radiation. While American made it clear they’re staying.
S-stupid Japan! It’s not like we’re helping you out for your sake, or anything. We just happened to have some extra food, water and medicine, that’s all. Don’t get the wrong idea!
That sounds too cute. It’s like Kuroneko and Kirino returning favours at the same time denying that they’re trying to be friendly to each other.
Lol I see what you did there.
This made my day, thanks for that anon.
For sure. GJ to these two.
JAPAN NO BAKA! *Throws the food at it and runs off crying*
Hmph! Stupid idiot Japan, we’re always cleaning up after you so the best thing you could do is be a better dog!
Hmph! Stupid Anon, your mum’s always cleaning up after you so the best thing you could do is be a better person!
agreed, bunch of pathetic limp dicks
The irony of the arrival of the Black Knights is not lost on us.
“Americans may be stupidly optimistic but they are certainly brave and believe in justice.”
I need this on a shirt~ x3
:3 it’s nice to know that 2chan has a heart XD
It’s good to hear people happy and positive in such a horrible situation~ X3
We arent there to help, this is just to distract people from what were really there for…. controlling the internets
…No that’s Ishihara. Or China. Or Ishihara working with China. Something like that.
Wasn’t it Ishihara who wanted to police Japan’s internet?
Are other countries not helping as much as they expected? There seems to be some cold feelings about the international response.
America also has a number of military bases in Japan, which makes it extremely easy/efficient to act as go-between for international support. Some of the supplies are likely funded by international support, but the US just has the most efficient method of distributing it.
It takes a while for ships to get from the Atlantic, so it’s more efficient for the farther nations to send money. It stands to reason that european help arrives in the form of cargo transports rather than US Navy Seahawks.
I like that they’re bringing Ramen back to Japan. WHOO FULL CIRCLE!
Didn’t ramen originate from China?
“Please make Japan a state.”
are you serious? (¬_¬)
It is a joke.lol
Canada is America’s hat.
Britain is the 51st state of America.
same.
Right after Puerto Rico and Australia.
No one wants Australia. Bunch of racist asshats.
Sure, you’re in line after Poland, haha
That won’t happen. Russians are claiming dibs on us since forever.
Damn commies….
They never did this to us, they only shoved expired canned goods and left a few dollars to us when things like these happen.. 🙁
iJelly
What is this!? This isn’t Japan! Are you sure those comments aren’t just a bunch of Americans pretending to be Japanese? There’s no way my Japan can be this cute.
It really makes me wonder whatever happened to ‘you are very fucking invader’
So… You think that all of 2ch is trolls? That everyone there believes foreigners are anime/manga/eroge stealing scum? That no one is Japan uses PD?
It’s just that Japan is finally showing us her “dere” side. Still, it’s nice our help is so appreciated.
J: America no Koto nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!
^^ (this is ‘Tunn – Dere’) :p ^^
J: It’s not like we want to thank you or anything! Don’t get us wrong, okay?
Epic win, anon… someone draw Japan as a tsundere saying this to America please. Not because of some stupid America better/worse BS, but as Anon 11:24 said…. it’s just too damn cute 😀
Maybe we could even use that character created by the Chinese racial slur for irony’s sake.
: D I wanna try this too, it was a terrific tsundere. We should compile them all together somewhere and show Japan we’re thinking of them.
“I don’t normally draw anime but had to after this”
Really? You should more often though, as this turned out pretty damn awesome. Usually people who “don’t normally draw anime” fail utterly and helplessly when it comes to manga style…
Heh, well done, Ian ^^ Nice, quick and effective. It’s making me want to give it a shot as well.
Heres a really quick drawing I did of tsundere japan. I don’t normally draw anime but had to after this:
http://img44.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=034199235_tsun_122_86lo.jpg
Didn’t America win the vote for the people they’d most want to date.
Most japanese actually like the US. At least most everyone I have met in japan does and also what I hear from my Japanese Fiance and her family. (my is honest and doesn’t care if the truth hurts)
Half of it sounds like sarcastic remarks to the reception of the general situation if you ask me.
Being called their ‘pochi’ truly made me lose it. That one you’re sure they’re being sarcastic, but it was such an awesome statement, it didn’t even matter.
I bet it’s nowhere as bad as the American occupation of Japan in the first decade after the war.
oy! you japanese need to show some respect to your sempai! we Canadians have been americas lapdogs since world war two! I kid I kid…. although its true… -_-;
i dunno, go though youtube comments on this videos. all similar, they mean it
This isn’t 4chan. Keep your shitty racial slurs to yourself.
thank god, was thinking I was the only suspecting about undetected sarcasm….
Every time I see this type of thing I look for my friends…and then I realize they are stuck in the engine room.
What happened to Americans being white pigs?
Give it a month, 2ch will be back to being their usual selves.
Because trunderes, tsunderes never change.
Now THIS is “Morning Lescue!” OH YEAH
♫Morning Lescue, Morning Lescue!♪
No one person is that simple, how can a whole country be? There are lots of things to be angry at America about, but this is just awesome. I’m glad to see such a lack of snark in general about this.
Don’t worry, you’re likely to be demoted by 2ch soon after the debris clears up.
Once 2chers are back to pirating their neighbors wireless connection instead of sitting dangerously close to a nuclear meltdown in an internet cafe somewhere, they’ll be back to their Xenophobic anti everyone else in the world ways. You’ll see, everything will be right as rain soon enough.
My guess would be after you finish.
Before or after I finish building them a new house?
Americans ARE white pigs. This change nothing.
That little picture at the end with “and its civilian sector is certainly no slouch at rebuilding either:”
Is wrong
http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/g5cgl/fuck_rebuilding_lets_move_back_200ft_and_take_a/
Not convinced. Nobody would put it past the media in Japan to do that, but the devastated road is clearly absent from the second picture, whether it is finished or not.
For the record, the picture states “under repair” and not that it is finished.
operation friends? and holy crap, they sure are fast at returning roads to normal
things like this pretty much explain why you shouldn’t judge a group of people based on what you hear on the news or slander websites. when our people met face to face, they were brothers.
this warmed my heart all up.
@2CH ooh so now that we are helping you we aren’t “barbaric white pigs” now huh? Fucking hypocrites. I’m glad we are helping them but I seriously hate 2ch. But I wouldn’t wish this tsunami/quake on my worst enemy. It’s extremely tragic and I do hope Japan can be restored.
You talk like if 2ch is made of 2 or 3 people.
“OMG animesuki is stupid, animesuki is calling everyone dirty pirates!”
Yeah 2ch can be a bunch of idiots sometimes. Their even worse than 4chan.
EDIT: Actually, 4chan’s worse. :V
Agreed. 4chan’s a lost cause.
The cracked part of the 1st pic = the reddish brown portion at the southeast sector at 2rd pic.
I didn’t believed in that picture too, but now that you mentioned the tower, you can also see the green sign below and the second tower near. SO YES it is the same place just that the pictures were taken at different view angles.
They need those roads to bring supplies of food, fuel and medicine to the affected areas, helos can only carry so much…
It’s nice to see gratitude at all.
I remember a lot of ingrate nations just taking our aid for granted, snapping up food whilst simultaneously flipping us the bird. Burma/Myanmar comes foremost to mind.
North Korea should be included in that list. We’ve shipped them oil & foot and in return, they still worship their dictator, like the cowards and fools they are.
Dude our burmese people never flip birds toward america. It’s the fucking military government. Please think before saying something.
i think you are talking about Haiti , retards were building baricades out of dead bodies to prottest that aid wasnt getting quick enough . Strangly they failed to realize that blocking roads wont get it done any sooner .
Or Pakistan. Minutes after receiving food and water they go back to mindlessly yelling “death to Americans!”
well, when drones or madmen like Raymond Davis are murdering your kids after seconds of receiving aid, you will cry for Murder as well, unless you are a Masochist.
morning rescue USA!
for when those mornings really get tough, get morning rescue USA flavor!
yum~
It’s like Japan is tsundere for us. “I-it’s not like I wanted you to rescue me, baka!” Then, “I-I think you’re cool.”
I don’t remember, was it really the people flipping the bird, or was it mostly their government? Because the Burmese government… well, not the nicest people.
Well; the state is made of people.
The goverment is the people and reflects the general thoughts of that country.
That’s the link between education and state of the country btw.
Dictatorship are usually only effective in uneducated countries.
Btw: The act of tear-jerking self-humiliation makes me sick. But I guess they are really in need of some reassurance if they act that way…
No worries Drakos.Amatras.
I think the Burmese government was the most recent example. Honestly I try not to linger on these things and I don’t really take it personally.
Better examples, (maybe?)
***
Okinawa just wrote up an anti-American piece shortly after this was published.
****
I remember during Operation Desert Storm, Kuwait requested military aid to oust Iraqi invaders from their country. Then when our soldiers arrived they made our troops remove the American flags from their uniforms because it offended them. Instead of telling them to take a hike, we complied.
“Well the state is made of people.
The goverment is the people and reflects the general thoughts of that country.”
Haha how retarded are you? Have you never heard of a dictatorship? What do you think is happening in the middle east right now? All these uprisings and revolutions? American government was REAL chummy with the “president” of Egypt and look what happened to him. Go back to school kid.
yea i agree. it definitely does not apply to places like burma
I’m a Burmese. And I can definitely assure you the Burmese people are really grateful for what USA has done for us. Burmese are not ingrates by history, as far as I’ve understood; recognizing gratitude is part of our culture and courtesy, in fact. (Not to say there won’t be an occasional bastard, but they’re not worth the attention.)
@ Denshousha
“Burma/Myanmar comes foremost to mind.”
I’m really sorry and embarrassed to hear that this is the kind of impression it made on our willing benefactors. The thing is, the government filtered the aid materials repeatedly, and they pinched away the best/better stuff throughout the process. The victims got, like, noodle packets, perhaps; at the same time, their act of theft pretty much revealed itself when some of the thieves ate too much of the high-energy food included in the aid materials and started having health complications. “Serves them right.” barely suffices in this case.
Since the government is the only “public” face Burma has, I’m pretty sure the ungratefulness came from the government people, maybe to make the aiders turn away in disgust, and definitely by their nature.
In any case, I can assure you that most of the Burmese people only want to live in peace without fear, and they’re hoping the US Army would storm the new capital one day and bring those scum to justice. Though that’s a high hope, considering China and Russia won’t agree with that as long as they’re getting sold resources by the Junta.

Anon 15:22
“The goverment is the people and reflects the general thoughts of that country.”
That might be the case in a democratic nation. Burma, no matter how much the government insists, isn’t one; they’re dictators, and very very dumb ones at that. Thanks to Anon 15:44 for clarifying.

For detailed Nargis disaster news, go to Irrawaddy.org and check the news section around 2008 April/May and a couple of following months. I’m sure international news channels covered about the disaster, but there’s only so much they could have shown on TV with the time restraints.

That’s really not the case in places like Burma.
L-O-L.
Awesome photos; 2ch does not seize to be…crazy. Over 1 million people, there are some fans out there of course. 😉
D-V-D! D-V-D!

Even Foamy the Squirrel is out to help. 😛
I hate how my country is viewed in the world, I just hope people remember that we really do all pitch in when things go wrong, don’t judge us because of our government.
We may have lots of dumb ppl taken europe, Asia, africa, Latin america, etc. But not all of us bad! But i’m not surprised hate is easily accepted went it’s convenient.
The Feds may be ran by idiots, but we are the ONLY country that consistently provides aid, even to countries that are working against us (that’s you, Pakistan).
I pray disaster like this happens in the middle east. The world would be better off with talk of those shitholes wiped off the map.
Dude. No.
And what’s the deal with that anyway?
Countries with idiotic gov’s should fend for themselves. Better that and clean out your own mess.
Make Harlem safe, then you can pat yourself on the back for helping others.
what make one small city safe from a giant group of unorganized criminals
sureeeeeee
thats like saying make crime go away impossible
you mean our government AND the vast amounts of stupidity that many of our citizens emit… there are still some people here in the US that still have a few working brain cells.
That’s both the curse and the blessing of America. The U.S. is a huge melting pot of people with different views, beliefs, and cultures.
White people are the meat and others are the broccoli?
More like a stew with a delicious overall taste of awesome but there are a few clumps of stupid and ignorance here and there
And as said stupid folks are multiplying far more than the intelligent folks, it’s…. only gonna get worse.
Idiocracy…it’s the most probable future.
A government full of people who are americans born from America. But yeah sure, the government is just a big baddy entity no way associated with the average joe right.
Are you really comparing the average joe to politicians, even though many of them were born in some of the most privileged positions possible? That would be stupid to do for ANY country. Are you really that ignorant? Or perhaps a little to privileged yourself?
@ 09:54, nice google search there, bub. You’re not making much of an argument here, though. I might have gotten a couple dates wrong, but I didn’t have my notes to read off of. I only added my two cents because a lot of people out there still aren’t exactly sure if we’re a democracy or republic.
>they only started amending their rights in >the Constitution in the last hundred years >or so. Heck, women didn’t even have the >right to vote >till the 1960’s.
You have to get a better education or a less indoctrinated instructor.
The Constitution was completed in September 1787 and ratified by the ninth state (New Hampshire) in June 1788. Operations under the Constitutional government began in March 1789.
The first ten amendments to the constitution were added in 1791, 11th 1797, 12th 1804, 13th 1865, 14th free slaves 1865, 15th right of the black man to vote 1869, 16th taxes taken 1909, 17th 1912, 18th alcohol banned 1918 later repealed by the 21st in 1933, 19th woman’s suffrage (woman’s right to vote) 1920, 20th 1932, 22nd presidential term limits 1947,23rd D.C. given electoral votes 1961, 24th 1963, 25th 1962,26th making all citizens 18 voters 1971.
There is a process in changing the constitution, instead of wild interpretations, let the states vote on it and make it part of the constitution. Hell it started almost as soon as it was signed.
Guys, chill. Anyone that’s taken an American Government class would know that at this point, America is both a Republic and Democracy, and neither. The founding fathers were, as you can imagine, an educated bunch of bookworms that knew their share of previous governmental contracts (AKA, Constitutions) that previous societies rose and fell upon. You got old-ass democracies like the one Rome had. Even back then they knew that Democracy was not a perfect social science, since they knew that if people became too liberal with the concept of majority rule, it would lead to rioting and mobs in the streets. The government back then was basically shaped by the priviliged, “smarter” classes. You even got the Magna Carta, which King John was basically forced by his barons to sign if he didn’t want them to burn London to the ground.
And now you got our Constitution. Please realize that even back then, they knew that there was nothing in this ‘Social Contract’ that should be set in stone, because they knew there’d come a time where not everyone would be benefited or pleased by the Contract the people of our country are bound by. Case in point, foreigners, former black slaves, and women. Much like Ancient Rome, this country started off catering only to the rights of white men, only this time it didn’t really matter what position in society they had. They still ended up discriminating against the other groups I mentioned; they only started amending their rights in the Constitution in the last hundred years or so. Heck, women didn’t even have the right to vote till the 1960’s.
In short, The US is a Democratic Republic, constantly reshaping itself to draw from both those groups. That’s why it -does- matter who we elect into office, because unless we take an active part in what our government is doing, they may start taking some of our rights away in the interest of other groups.
A republic is a form of representative democracy. Seriously people, direct democracy isn’t the only form of democracy. >_>
This whole “U.S is not a democracy” thing needs to stop. Especially since it usually comes from Americans.
Well, uhhh, last time I checked, a democracy was something that was more like majority rules all the time. If we really were a democracy, we’d probably still have a bunch of fucked up shit.
U.S. is a republic, dude.
@Anon 12:56
The US is a republic, NOT a democracy. There is a difference.
Though as time carries us all forward, I see it becoming less and less like a republic and more like a democracy. It won’t be much longer until my own country falls apart.
It does not take much for an average joe to go to a university, get a degree and work his way up to fields of power. Soldiers and officers are made up of average joes. The goverment, corporations, countries, nations all started from average joes, ones more lucky then others to get where they are but no difference.
Last time I check, the US is a democracy, which permits average joes to get into power, of course the more privileged will have more power and control right from the beginning. But no excuses.
Your comment reminds me of an old thought I have about my country, Brazil. People here often complain about politicians and the general corruption that surrounds them, but they conveniently forget the time they “forgot” to give the extra change they got back to the cashier when they buy something. Politicians do not come from space: they come from among the people. If the population is, in general, dishonest, why the hell they expect their governors to be different?
it’s all over the world, man!
“If the population is, in general, dishonest, why the hell they expect their governors to be different?”
So true… T_T
As much as I would like to be optimistic, I can’t disagree with the quote. Though I can’t see Burma fitting the quote because, well, the government doesn’t represent the people in our case. The current government body here today came into power through a coup on… the previous body who pulled a coup.
Huh.
Indonesian here.
sounds like my country’s story, corruption everywhere..
Barely any corruption here in Finland. Hah!
Venezuela here…. XD
Mh I always make sure i pay what im supposed to, no less no more~~
Mexico too. But I think its the same with the majority of the world governments.
That’s…so like here in the Philippines.
11:30 17/03/2011 # !,
the same applies to Argentina, and many of our latin american neighbours I suppose.
Well, America isn’t NATO, so it probably would be strange for non-American citizens to be in the government.
If you mean the politicians, you can be sure that they appeal to the average joe as hard as they can, but the gap between what the average joes need is different from much stronger influences that special interest groups use to affect politicians.
Wow america is doing something really nice for once instead of policeing the world. I guess it’s not that bad after all.
^ comment above me is right. But do you know why america “tries to police the world”?. We tried to let ppl do their own thing and WW1 happened after that we did the same and then WW2 happened.
O and we never tried, the whole of 1900’s was a time when the military machine of the US was toppling governments and the corporations stole resources from 2nd and third world countries. They probably still do it even now, just not enough time passed to get the information out.
The victors right history. Keep that in mind won’t you.
You might also want to point out that it was the Union Banking Company (with Prescott Bush as the director) who was lending money to the Nazis. You might also want to mention that it was the Sr. George Bush who helped start the oil company in Saudi Arabia that ended up paying for Osama’s war chest against America. Lovely stuff.
What are you implying? Did I, or did I not talk of the holocaust? FYI I believe the holocaust did happen, their is significant PROOF of it happening in the past. But did you know Hitler supposedly was getting his oil from an American corporation for his war? Yeah like I said, the victors write history, people write history, you don’t think the bible is true do you?? Cause if you do, then there is no need to go any further.
Is this the part where you start denying the holocaust?
America is always doing stuff like this. Most of the major relief efforts come out of America. Of course it’s probably more fun for you to act out of bitterness instead of acknowledging there are good people all over the world regardless of country, so do your thing. Whatever.
“Rather than seeing our government’s incomprehensible press conferences, seeing the US army on the ground is much more reassuring.”
well it’s really the navy, but it’s the thought that counts, lol
I imagine the navy brought over the airforce and army?
Still amazing work from the USA. Go Obama! =)
Go >PRESIDENT<!
Any US president would have done the same, no matter how shitty. And the military commanders in Japan would have probably done what they could even if you had a president who was enough of an asshole to disapprove of it. For one thing, it's the right thing to do. For another, if the US military doesn't want to get tossed out of Japan, they have to help.
And the Air Force brought over the Air Force, and a lot of the Army, too. And the Marines, despite the backronym about the Navy. (My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment.) The Navy carries things that are too big to carry in planes.
Obama hasn’t done much. He may have given the go ahead but he spends a lot of time doing the “important” things like playing more golf and making his basket ball picks.
Obama has done a TON for this country. Get off the bandwagon and do some research.
The Navy takes on a lot of interesting humanitarian assignments. I remember the US moved in an aircraft carrier full of supplies just to assist a cruise ship that had a power failure out at sea. I thought that was really cool. Probably kind of scary looking for the ship it moved in on, but still cool. xD
“America’s Navy… A global force for good…”
Ah, Keith David… As close as America will ever get to Norio Wakamoto.
Golden Knights are Army.
Black Knights are Zero’s Freedom Fighters
love them or hate them when shit happens around the world Americans are always there to take care of it.
Either that, or we’re the ones causing it. 😉
And even then, we’re left to clean up and baby sit.
Too true.
Good to see that they can use their military forces for productive things once in a while too.
The Navy is constantly on relief missions.
…The army has issues with it’s men raping citizens abroad, not the other branches of the military. The other branches don’t let in low IQ retards who failed their drug test before. Do some research before you open your mouth, k?
That’s really all they do now days.
Sexual relief missions?
yeah, but how many people from that base are they raping like usual
For a while I thought it was something from 20th Century Boys..
What happened to that Okinawa thing and all those gripes about the anime and fictional girl abuse?
Japan Sale Only, eh?
USA USA USA lol I laughed too much
The ships and helicopters should pull in blasting “America, Fuck Yeah” to make things more dramatic.
Nah, “Ride of the Valkyries” is, and always will be the best for helicopter insertions.
