Whether the real killer was someone too connected to arrest or they simply wanted a quick conclusion with a non-Japanese suspect, what’s to stop them from just grabbing a foreigner, saying he confessed, killing him themselves, and washing their hands of the whole thing. It’s not like it’s impossible for the police to be corrupt.
