This isn't something small but a nationwide concern. The fact that this rampages through the country is reason enough to understand the simple gist of this. Sure there are other societies that are just as amoral. But for one of the world's leading nations, it certainly has shown itself to be unwilling to enforce its own laws.

That's China, all appearances and no action.

Honestly though, people need to stop taking the news on food practices here seriously. Are they disgusting? Yes. Is the news true? Maybe. But it the end, these are small scale producers. Just do as the villagers do and buy the more well-known brands. Problem solved.

2. I didn't even look at English language sources - there are plenty in Chinese and Japanese, both dating back to the original 2004 report and more recently, as with the Searchina report.

There are also Japanese and Chinese articles on the practice on Wikipedia (see 人毛醤油), although whether they are credible is another matter.
