Tite Kubo: “I’ll Keep Bleach Going For At Least 10 Years”

Bleach’s author Tite Kubo is apparently set on keeping Bleach going for at least another 10 years, remarking that it is only halfway through.
Kubo’s remarks were reported by 2ch-frequenting attendees of the recently held Jump Festa, where he took the stage to talk about his creation:
“It’s about halfway through the story at the moment.
[…]
At the very least, I’ll be doing it for another 10 years.”
Another version has him being asked “So will you be keeping it going for the next 30 years?” to which he responds “I think I’d like to make it a bit shorter than that,” with the other speaker quipping that “It should be continuing for at least another 10 years!”
Both accounts agree on him saying he is about half done however, which for a 10-year-old title would rather suggest another 10 years to go.
Reactions to all this are mixed to say the least, ranging from enthused to horrified…

Certainly a surprise. Was hoping this new arc was just to clear up what hadn't been explained, like Ichigo's dad. And the poor anime had to keep delaying, going on that much more is overkill.
One Piece I understand, there's a lot of stuff left to do and such Oda's hinted at. Bleach... who knows how it'll go.
Kubo himself told that at last there would be two arcs (one 6-8 months, second 3-4 years) like a month or two ego.
Now we know there will be more and I'm happy with that, i love Bleach ^^
a 10 year arc... man, that's ummm something?
Berserk's arcs aren't that long... after all, the mangaka releases a chapter every 2-3 months.. >_>
not even berserk has arcs that long but damn close
Lol. Berserk's arc length. Lol... Good one. Seriously though, wish the mangaka would get to writing those Berserk chapters quicker.
There actually -is- a lot to explore in Bleach. Hell was an interesting enough idea it can't be left to just a movie(the upcoming one). And if there just happened to be a Substitute Shinigami badge for Ukitake to hand to Ichigo at the end of the SS arc - well, rather does follow that there can't be just one Sub. Shin. out there. Besides! We've yet to see Unohana earn that reputation for scariness. That right there should be interesting enough, in itself.
Oh come on! you're just milking the franchise now! show the remaining bankais already and make a proper ending!
uhm......no
Well it should give him a good income, and if he still likes to draw it he possibly can be called a happy and lucky person. The question if the audience will still be there in some years is yet to be answered.
At the moment i like Bleach so i am looking forward to it, but this will change when the next crappy filler or some boring story arc will appear.
They seem to have learned from previous mistakes, with those filler arcs. After all, the Zanpaktou Tales arc was filler, and positive reception of it was surprisingly high(for filler, that is.) Never know what they'll give us for the next one...
I'm pretty sure he's making it up as he goes along by now.
Sorry, there's only one Eichiro Oda; no room for you, Kubo Tite
Kubo is a secret Oda groupie. Otherwise simmons may have plagiarized but Kubo is surely being a copy cat troll. Too coincidental imo. He can wish to do bleach till he dies, but I predict low sales will be his undoing. This douche and his joke picture book sucks.
Mmmmmhhmmmm!! You said it sista'!!
*snaps fingers*
No but really, I was expecting Ichigo to once more have his powers, even though not for another 10-year life cycle, maybe a year or two more... then off he goes along with his creator.
-0.2 for acting black and gay. straight asians only.

Oh I'm so surprised... not.
Anyways I do not follow the series,it keep going fot a century.
Most probably it will keep going as long as it keep selling.
Oh a little mistake there.
"It can keep going for a century"
It can keep going until the end of the universe, in the Big Crunch which will occur as the universe collapses in on itself under the sheer mass of Bleach volumes.
It will only end when Zaraki finally finds out that his bankai lets him get out of the book, break the 4th wall and slash Kubo.
You forget - Kubo already knows this and is pulling the strings to make sure it never happens.
Zaraki putting his second hand on his sword instead of doing a bankai was the last straw for me. His bankai could have made Hueco Mundo worth it. All of it.
that would make Zaraki even more badass than he already is
“It’s about halfway through the story at the moment.
At the very least, I’ll be doing it for another 10 years.”
i must ask: ....why?!
Okay, seriously.
If you knew you had a series that'll keep your career intact, why would you want to end it?
Tite Kubo has the right idea in prolonging a series that'll benefit him.
I will just say this: Even though Bleach's quality has gone up and down and it created a lot of fuss, I watch every Bleach episode (even fillers) and still follow the manga loyally.
I mean, if you watched Dragonball and Dragonball Z anime episodes in its original run in Japan or anywhere else int he world capable of watching Dragonball in one way or the other, there were times when a filler was so bad or stupid and the story seemed to go on forever and there were literally a dozen short movies, that even fans were clamoring for it to end.
And after it ended, I missed it greatly. Not saying Bleach quite has that level of ubiquitous standing as Dragonball, but it is silly that people are calling upon the end of something and call themselves fans for it and think they know something the CREATOR HIMSELF doesn't know.
Seriously, if you guys need to make a huge fuss over it, just drop Bleach and ignore it. Nobody is forcing you. I could argue the 'end' of Tegami Batchi (Letter Bee), One Piece and many other manga out there. Even Death Note and Monster, I could potentially find a 'cut away point' for an ending. But I'm SO GLAD they didn't end there.
True gung ho fans sometimes needs to be rewarded and it's good for them if they get more. For those in the fringe, again, if it offends you THAT MUCH, then drop it like a rock and move on.
I do not follow those never ending series.
But I'd like watch One Piece.
bleach is running out of originality, is he going to recycle previous ideas..
Sorry but ALL stories in EVERY media are running out of originality and have to recycle previous ideas. Name something that was not based on some idea before it? With thousands of years of human story telling history, we can not make something new.
The problem with Bleach is that it repeats the unoriginality...multiple times. And it even fails at doing that (the Hueco Mundo arc was almost copy-pasted SS arc...but with tons more suck and fail. Ichigo lost his powers...again. Ichigo met a secretive group who know all about him and his powers...again.)
Just let some time pass by, and know one will know that this type of story (sure, it has to be something more special) has been told somwhere else in history. So all is fine if you don't repeat the same thing too fast and too often.
never much cared for it, but it gives someone, somewhere something to watch/read w/e evidently so hooah. majority of the juggernauts never appealed to me anyways.
It is already terrible.
He's Just Setting it in stone now.
bleaches real end was after the ss arc. we can all agree on that. thats as far as it was originally planned.
now its just going because its making bank. at least the one piece author, has been quoted multiple times at having a completely thought out story, and a plan. now im not saying that he has every chapter till the end maped out completely, but he has the direction it will go and major events known.
name another manga that can say that much, that has been going for 300 chapters. most mangaka sell out by than.
It's gonna keep going until ichigo kills the spirit king.
Tite Kubo, this man is truly the king of trolling.
Bleach is getting boring..
*FACEPALM*
Yes, Bleach should really have ended soon after the soul society events, it's just a continuous loop of battle after power-up.
As long as people are still willing to buy it, and Tite Kubo's still willing to produce it, it will go on repeating itself indefinitely.
Well at the current speed it's not unthinkable that will go on for at least 10 years...
It will be hard for Kubo to keep drawing for 10 years all Bleach's backgrounds..... oh wait...
@alidan
He could just be bullshitting too, you never know.
By the way...Yoruichi render is hot!
Bleach has so many characters and battles that are soo...drawn out over multiple eps. But until something better comes along - the big three are safe.
Upper limits of Super Saiyan power means nothing to this man. Aizen reached like... WTFPWN levels of power. So why are we going even higher? Because of Plotkai!
Really, are they trying to set a record or something? 'longest anime'?
Well whatever, I don't care about bleach, even naruto is better! comeon!
"name another manga that can say that much, that has been going for 300 chapters. most mangaka sell out by than."
Hiromu Arakawa - at 100 monthly chapters, FMA is just about the same length in pages, and has *gasp* ONE planned out story arc from start to end.
On topic: yea, Bleach dipped below the threshold of trash a while ago. Maybe it'll suddenly be good again if it goes on, like an overly long gag.

i have to dissagre.
fma was a story of them trying to bet back to normal. the same way that one piece is about finding one piece and conquering the ocean. fma has different sections, just like one piece did. and im only saying one piece because its the best currently and its still fresh in my mind, as i marathon that manga once every year or so.
though i do have to give fma credit where credit is due. it had an excellent run, next to no padding (dont bring up one pieces padding, as it does the padding right, unlike so many others) and told a simple story from begining to end, and had an overwhelmingly satisfying ending.
unlike others suck as inuyasha, which she is quoted as saying she went 500 chapters because she wanted to have written a 500 chapter manga
Wow, by the end of the series, I'm confident that it'll have made Dragon Ball Z/GT look tame in terms of ridiculously powered characters...
Even twilight was better.
Bleach is hilarious. I almost fell over laughing when they said Ichigo was getting his powers back after all, even though we all knew it was going to happen the moment he said he was going to lose them forever. It's already the third time they've played that card, but Bleach's plot recycling only gets funnier with repetition. Like how they time skipped Ichigo, undid it, and then immediately time skipped the whole comic anyway.
It's the same reason we love Sarah Palin quotes: you can't make that shit up, and genuine incompetence has a beauty of its own. With 10 more years, I hope we get to see many more pairs of henchmen from another world kidnapping heroines and making them emo in a white dress. Rukia better come back so she can help Chad and Ishida lose off screen.
Damn..
I want "Quality" Bleach not "Quantity" Bleach..

well, lets look at if from the beginning, one piece was going to have a long run regardless of if it reached critical mass or not, and had more than a few logical stopping points in the beginning part of the manga where if it did get canceled it would have some ind of an end. but lets go back, what was one piece competing with when it first came out? because i cant really think of anything all that great. and like i said, i believe that all of the west blue (or east, i forget where they started) was planed out, not into how many chapters but the main parts. and i think thats how he keeps doing it. i mean try out lining a story, than fill in blanks, than fill in the fill ins with details, and than detail the details, i think everything was planned just not out to the chapters.
Berserk is another great one that never sold out, i believe... not much to say, it just takes way to fucking long for shit to come out, if he is payed a yearly fee along with other things, it may be a way of getting more money without losing his integrity as a mangaka.
i never read twilight, thank god, but story wise, isnt twilight at least moving forward?
and dont mention conan and bleach in the same sentence. bleach sold the fuck out, conan was always going to be a forever manga. so long as there is a mystery, and a new setting it can go on for ever. and it can end at any time. give them 10-20 chapters to finish up the black guy plot and there you go.
One Piece is awesome, but i can't conceivably believe that he absolutely planned to have the manga last as long as he has. Is the story supposed to be 20 years long? what would have happened if one piece's popularity never took off and he'd be forced to end it early? it took 13 years to reach 'half' of the grand line, so wouldn't it take another 10 to finish it?
Also bleach sucked after it became all about the money. Inuyasha was filler in manga form. you could conceivably read the first arc and the last arc and miss nothing.
Alidan: Berserk, Keitaro Miura has estated he wanted to go for 70 volumes which by his pacing should be 8 to 10 years more.
"Even twilight was better."
I just disagree with this. Nothing is worse than that written steaming pile of excrement.
This is going to be like Detective Conan and last FOREVER
Just end this crap already.
Great. Another decade of Ichigo being emo, fail plot devices, and, best of all, more "good" characters that never, ever, ever, ever fucking die.
Bleach humpers need to stop clinging to any vestiges of awesomeness they felt from the ss arc and just accept it. Ichigo has lost his abilities twice now, and the quincy once as well, so no one gave a shit about the "sacrifice" Ichigo made to beat Aizen.
I swear, Bleach is the Twilight of the shounen manga world.
bleach is probably my favorite manga to rip apart because its so easy.
its so easy to tell with that one that nothing was planned from beginning to end with it, and it was never planned to last a whole hell of a long time either.
in execution, the ss arc was perfect but it felt that twords the middle he realized that he bleach didn't need to end, so he artificially extended it.
with one piece you can see the thought process that went into making it. by the time that it went to serialization all of the, what was it east or was it west blue arc was penned out to almost the chapter by chapter. the grand line were foot notes telling the big shit that happened and at best the second half of the grand line, just had settings for where all the shit takes place, and over the years he has refined it and always taken it in a direction that you didn't even realize you wanted to see it go.
they have time and time again defied the way shonen manga work, weather it be removing the power levels ( there is a bounty, but that was proven fairly early on to mean jack shit to your over all power) getting rid of the training arcs that usually embody shonen, in favor of creative solutions to beating enemies (the sand man arc, is a fairly good example).
i honestly couldn't imagine he pulls the quality of manga he produces out of his ass every weak like bleach.
THE HEART
The manga ain't that bad
Although the anime is another story
Well not right now they actually have content to eat away but the fillers and filler arcs which account for a lot of eps uggh
You know... that's the Perfect invitation for Stare Contests between the Fighters...
Ichigo: *geeeeeeeee* =_=
Aizen: *geeeeeeee* =_=
Ichigo: *geeeeeee* =_=
change to Uruhara who watches from afar: *geeeeee* =_=
Ichigo: yo Aizen :O
Aizen: *geeeeee* =_=
Ichigo: I'll show you the true form of GT ò.ó
Aizen: As if you could kill me... xD
Ichigo: *geeeee* =_=
to be Continued
the afro dude is the last boss
dont underestimate the power of afro :D
You DO realise the reason that anime going into fillers is because the lack of source material, which is the manga right?
The anime would have fillers for a long time because the bloody manga's "plot" of EACH chapter can basically be summarised down to just 2-3 panels, which is ONE page! ONE page worth of "plot" getting drag out to 15-20 pages! With the way the manga is being serialized, you think the anime producers are doing fillers for the hell of it? No, it is because they got no other choice! The reason for fillers is because the progress of the manga is so GOD DAMN slow!
you know, you can just NOT READ IT rather than say "it suck, just end this, it's too long, etc". the fact that he continued it means that there's still many people that's read it. it's not like he will stop if you told him. you're nobody, your reason is dismissable.
giiii the sound of staring.
at least i know that my friends sister has not been hit in the eye by accident. by a gun.
@18:43 Anonymous
Bleach stare downs are not as long as the ones in DBZ those were the worst but the fighting made up for it.
at least he is honest -_-"
It's a fact that any series "you" don't follow will continue forever.
The current dream sequence is pretty fucking terrible really.
How he's going to manage 10 years with this shit is anybodies guess..
bleach will run 10 more years. Bring it, my body is ready :3
this news pleases my ginga.
Dost not this be troll,
I pity your soul.
1+1=3; Ninja Please!
Haters gonna hate. Now buy a bar of snickers and get some nuts!
Also it only means this is a bad work because if u love what u do u do it for the satisfaction of making the anime like tolking with lord of the rings
Yes, Tolkien was all about the anime, wasn't he? <.<
He might not be good at expressing himself, that Anon, but stop acting like a dimwit, and figure things out yourself.
He just meant that certain people do things to satisfy themselves, not the crowd or money. That's why he came up with Tolkien. Jesus, people should stop don't taking litterally.
"Yes, Tolkien was all about the anime, wasn't he?"
Tolkien is all about the story-telling (narration) and the story. That's the point. Bleach has no story (nor any kind of sensible continuity) and with the fillers fails at narration.
GP point was that Bleach could learn few things from LOTR, which is considered to be the best story-telling ever. And it has an end - because story-telling can't be without a story. Read the LOTR books, they are worth the time.
Pretty much all animations I like fit 12-26 episodes. If story fails to develop before 12 eps, if no firm plot has materialized, then it is unlikely to happen even after 26 eps. FMP IMO is a great example of great series. FMAB is probably only exception I like where they needed more than 26 eps to develop the story and plot AND succeeded ending it all beautifully.
yah, but tolkien just did it to prove a point..
10:00 Anonymous,
He did it to prove a point? What? Where did you hear that?
No, the point was sarcasm. Thanks for playing, though.
Dear Rethardus,
I wasn't talking to you.
Sincerely, Aneko
