Because the ‘international community’, i.e. just a bunch of countries, can’t very well give Japan a rap on the knuckles without attracting scrutiny themselves. And then you’ll discover that a lot of western countries are even more uptight than Japan. Or have an Official Secrets Act. Or anti-blasphemy laws. Or a list of banned books.
Furthermore, generally speaking western culture favours protecting fictional kids over free speech in the first place. It doesn’t matter if a politician stands up against this ban because he knows that the ban could be used to stifle free speech and/or prohibit works that aren’t even pornographic by any sane standard, in the evening news there will be his face next to some loli guro. End of career.
