What is left of the Final Fantasy XIV player-base is expressing alarm at the number of gold-farmers now swarming the servers, already depopulated enough as it is.
Players can’t help but notice that a lot of the “players” seen around actually appear to be mass-generated alts or bots, likely for the purpose of generated in-game currency and items which can then be sold at a substantial profit offline:
Names appear to range from lazy keyboard bashing to nonsense, and of course some distinctly Chinese sounding names are present.
Either Square Enix is not keen on the idea of wiping out hundreds or thousands of farmers due to the game’s already tiny population, or it simply could not care less about players facing the prospect of having all their kills stolen by Fgjj Fjff and company.
The game’s decline in player numbers appears to have stabilised at around 24,000 players for now:
All this raises the question of just who will be left to buy all this farmed gold…

it's terrible. it's not just "cut and paste" but "cut and paste and paste and paste and paste and..."
16k of said player base are probably these gold miners and bots.
At times like this, I'd rather advocate for MMORPGs where you don't get drops you can sell or even have a currency.
I'm sure currency and economy are vital and even fun aspects of MMORPGS for many, but I respect MMOs that concentrates on the gameplay.
"At times like this, I'd rather advocate for MMORPGs where you don't get drops you can sell or even have a currency."
If Demon's Souls was an MMO...
Not quite sure how that work in the grand scheme of things but, a Demon's Souls MMO could be godly....
As for FFXIV...well farmers aren't anything new. Although with FFXIV's population as it is, this is a rather undesirable out turn for Square at least. Wonder how much of the population farmers make up at this current point.
A game where you have to get all items yourself will be a dead game. Crafting in particular would be terrible.
RMT would just craft all day and sell goods instead of farmable items. What's next, the disabling of trading crafting items? Then you just killed crafting. Don't underestimate how many people devote their time and energy to these professions.
Then people would just sell accounts instead of items.
Or good GMs that account and IP ban. Wont stop gold farmers and sellers but it will greatly reduce them.
Oops, forgot to log in. ^18:30 comment is mine.
what is a fgjj and fjff?
Eurgh thats what happens when I post immidiately after waking up.
I forget to login >.>
And no one would buy them either as it is because this game sucks, which will soon tribute to even more players dropping this game if SE don't do anything about any of THESE problems this game have.
..December's coming.
Dam that Fgjj and Fjff.
They ruin game economies!...
Although come to think of it, this game is so crap it probably doesnt have any kind of decent economy and if it does ruining it will be overshadowed by all its other faults anyway :P
If I owned an MMO I'd just go out as an invisible gamemaster with a ban hammer and just slap bans all over em. Then hire lackies to deal with the inevitable wave of emails of genuine players I accidentally banned.
"16k of sad player base..."
fixd
There is no need for humans to play this game Square Enix will do it for them.
They need to keep the gold miners and bots in order to keep the server population stats stable.
At least they picked the loli's to run around with.
It would be better for the game to just lie about it.
But this is a bad business decision on the part of the gold farmers if I ever saw one. They'll have no one to sell to and if the farming is easy, the gold will be cheaper.
Somebody tell me what happened to the produver of FF I to FFXII!?
Two things:
1. They branched out too much and didn't keep the same quality (HOW many spinoff games did VII and X and XII have? Sure, some of them were bearable, even enjoyable, but they certainly weren't of the same quality as the originals).
2. They got lazy and didn't want to put effort into games when they could make a quick buck off the brand name alone (remember what was said about XIII? That they didn't make towns because it would be "too hard"? The same excuse they gave for why they won't do FFVII remake - it has towns. Reeks of lazy shitness, and FFXIV is showing the extent that lazy shitness can go in spades).
*sign* that question was about the Producers of FFI to FFXII I believe, lol...
Obviously (not to you) the same team is not working at a company for 20 years. People will retire, switch companies, switch teams within the company, move up the corporate ladder etc.
Secondly, what makes you think the same people working on the single player games are working on the MMO(s)?
I wasn't aware that the team had swapped out recently? I had thought SE had the same team now that they always had. If not, well that could explain a few things too.
Hmm, the situation is not good already but it will be worser if SE dont do anything to get rid of of those farmer.
Just when you think it can't get any worse with this game...
It does, hilarious really...
Old MacEnix had a farm, E-I-E-I-O
Yeah, because it's not like other MMOs, including Final Fantasy XI weren't overrun with RMT...owait.
But then again, these bots probably make up for half all the active accounts that would continue to pay them.
FFXIV is on vegetative state with constant need for life support system. Someone please kill it quick and put it to a peaceful rest.
Holy shi~, SE forgot to put condoms as a purchasable item in their inventory shops.
They have put them, but they works as well as everything else in FFIV...
Ugh, I think I'm seeing hundreds of twins...or I need to change my glasses again
That's what they get for practicing polygonal inbreeding lol
...I want to scream and rage at how phail FF has become. But anything I can say right now I have said in the past. So in the end all I can do is lower my head and weep.
QQ...
i rais my head up and let out a hearty laugh
People ran out of unused reactions for this long ago *sign* lol...
*leaves without even giving a responding to how Fail FFXIV has become*...
hope the gold-farmers will get their investments back *sarcasm*
The gold farmers will face a loss themselves if FFXIV is not successful.
It actually makes me wonder what the proportion of actual game code to bot scripts are...
seriously speaking, it is a problem with SE's inability to see that RMT will always exist. They've made it so difficult to get any needed items that somebody will fill in the dull grind that needs to be done to gather and sell them. In a way SE's own mentality has actually created this problem. As for the market wards as a potential deterrent to RMT selling items...i don't see what's going to stop RMT's from parking a bunch of these clones at camps to distribute their wares vs. doing it in the overcrowded market wards...
So Squenix made the bots to cover up the population decrease? Shameless!
They are eating them! And they are... ZOMBIES! O MAI GOOOOOOODDDDDD!!!!
Those bot makers were already in the open beta of the game and using those tools that worked then. They were already in the game as more than 1/2 of the open beta participants were setting up automation programs for it. Just like they do in every other MMO online and have since 1999. Its just with no players all you see is them now.
new update for FF14
http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=159e4a58b58fd0214620ec8d64ddd138d5ab599e
guess what, they removed the feature of displaying the world population(total number of players in the game)
What a bunch of cowards....
Coincidence, huh? What the hell!
Not so long ago they forbade the usage of images/videos for reviews that didn't come from themselves. In other words, they are used to shadow tactics.
How deep can they fall? They have to resort to cheap tricks and masking reality. What a fucking shame. They should all just leave gaming industry. They have no place left there.
Does WoW have a built-in population counter?
That aside, OH YEAH they'll fall really deep. As shitty as FFXIV is in its current state, we're talking about a game that must've taken millions of dollars to develop. Being a profit-based organization, they'll use any means necessary to scrape off what little they can get for as long as they can. 'Beating a dead horse' has never been more accurate and obvious in gaming industry as it is now with Square-Enix.
I WANT to pity the execs, really. Then again, they should have shot down all the ideas used in the game all the way from the initial presentation meeting, before it even gets into development phase. They brought to themselves all the shit that are happening to them.
Wait a minute here...
An MMO with RMT activity?
Please keep us constantly up to date with this industry breaking news of something that has never happened before in every single MMO out there.
lol, the cute little trolls...
10 cents an hour's good money when you are chinese.
that's what you get square.
the farmers are probably like %50 of the population that's even left lol.
yep 20,000 bots and prolly 4000 players
I like how instead of writing an article about the massive improvement on UI lag (eliminating it) they nit pick at something that I haven't even seen before myself.
