Interestingly, prior to the appearance of these photographs several anonymous 2ch posters were busy enthusing about how “packed” the stores were thanks to Kinect and how “amazing” the controller was – after being confronted with the photos they prevaricated, saying “you just missed THE BOOM” and “you had to wait 15 minutes to have a go,” and most interestingly of all, “there were loads of people, bringing their families too and such.”

there is a chance that most of its problems are software or firmware, and that can be patched, im giving it a year for shit to come out and maybe take advantage of it in a way that is fun for a core gamer, beside being able to flip people off in game.

i believe that the kenect is capable of making a wire frame, BASIC one, but wire frame none the less of your movements. you sellect which hand you fap with and that half of the wire frame doesn't move shit on the screen, it only pays attention to your hand movements.
the virus would hide it self, and at the 100-300 stroke per minute mark it would execute, just as most people would cum, it would format the harddrive

To my modest collection of wakizashi and katanas, having a game with Kinect, packed with zombies/ninjas/samurais/yakuza and the likes to prove my slashing skills(if i have any XD) is a matter that keeps me from bashing this system, so until such a game appears, I'll pretend M$ is paying my mouth shut on the topic.

Actually kinect is not a waste of development. It's found a new home in robotics. It may suck for games but hackers are developing drivers for people to use it in the robotics engineering and other fields that require sensors that can sense depth of field and other stuff the kinect can do. I don't know the exact specifics as I'm not into those fields but there have been numerous news articles about how amazing it is for those hobbies and research outlets. But as a gaming device it's a flop. But gaming isn't the only hobby in the world. So by far it's not wasted, it just had a hidden potential market that microsoft may not be to happy about.
MS might recoup their losses by releasing windows embedded drivers and selling it as such.
Not sure if they'll release the specs but I do suspect they will back down from the open source developers as I doubt they're selling it at a loss.
The parts probably cost at most $50 to $80 including labor so the rest is going to be profit.
I certainly look forward to getting these at liquidation on ebay after they bomb.
Kinect is extremely popular in the the U.S. and U.K.
Not to sure where you live, but unless its Soviet Russia your sales rates really don't count when I'm targeting a specific social market.

Japan (population 120 million) is a larger market for consoles than the whole of Europe (700 million), never mind just the UK (~60 million). It's just that the Xbox and Xbox 360 flopped there pretty bad, and wouldn't have sold at all if games like Tales of Vesperia had come out on the PS3 at the same time.

Kinect obviously needs to improve on the lag and bring more hardcore games but it has potential as does every major console motion controls.
Salesewise, I think casual gamers will likely eat them up. Move did very well and Wii did very well obviously. I guess casuals just loves these kinds of things.
That said, the lack of MS's popularity doesn't surprise me. It's been described as the 'otaku's console' in Japan due to all the shmups and dating sims and visual novel types of games.
Maybe come next gen, they can try to make a more serious push, because Sony has the whole nationalistic twinge to it all since the Japanese consumers are comfortable buying a Japanese gaming console.
Either way, it's kind of amazing and cool that the PSP seems to be the reigning king in Japan nowadays. PSP2 could be come GIGANTIC over there.
It is going to fail (and not because of the lag issue) and it is going to fail because of all of the restrictions on the ability for people to use it. Most people won't have enough room to be the distance away they need to be and also don't have adjustable lights. One example is my house in which it would be impossible to be the required length away and also the only room that can get close to that probably would be too dark for using the Kinect.

Quite correct. I have a pretty big room for Japanese standards, and every Japanese guy/girl who sees it tells me how big it is. And yet, it is still too small to properly use the Kinect.
Hell, even in my parent's home in Europe we'd have had too little space to let it work properly. UNLESS, of course, we moved a table, 2 couches and some other stuff out of the way. >_>
The Kinect has a tremendously large number of flaws, but the largest is that they have focussed some of their system specs on American housing standards. I can't help but think that their attempts to be bigger cheapskates and sell a device inferior even to the original designs is just going to ruin their chances completely.
I know its the cool thing on the net to talk bad about things that are popular but you should actually try it first. Some games on it might suck but DC is great fun and better than DDR ever was, the fitness game and kinect sports also are great casual games.
Oh and if you are disappointed that Kinect is too casual then you should have pulled your head out of your ass a long time ago cause they never hid that.

Yea, the lag issue has gotta be resolved. I saw someone playing on the Kinect at the local PC World store, and the delay in responding to the player (or controller as MS put it) was like bloody 1-2 seconds delay!
Also, this Kinect would fail epically in Japan, if we take into the accounts of the size of the average houses/apartments that people live in vs the amount of space required for it.
