I'd really love to see a reboot of Super Dimension Space Fortress Macross
its called robotech >_>
DON'T call it "Robotech"...
I certainly will call Robotech, "Robotech"... I wouldn't want to dirty the Macross name by associating it with that mess (although being absorbed into Robotech was the best thing that ever happened to Southern Cross, and the Mospeda section was left remarkably untouched in comparison).
Robotech, was it's English name, but it also included a few of the series that fallowed in the Macross Universe (so glad Macross Plus wasn't also labeled under the Robotech name)
Macross DOES sound better.
I like the original name better than robotech >_>
While popular outside Japan, nobody knew that Robotech was a massacred mix of three Japanese anime series, Macross, Mospeada and Southern Cross; following the general plot of Macross. This was done because at that time, there was a retarded requirement for TV series to be a certain amount of episodes long.
I understand the nostalgia Robotech brings, but after finding out the truth I cannot stop myself from cringing. I'm a devoted fan of Macross and would not dream of sullying it again.
Robotech is a frankenstein monster cut together from pieces of Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada. Completely unrelated series that have nothing in common aside using similar technology. I hope Carl Macek rots in hell for this abomination.
What about Mospeada?
I damn agree! Lonely Soldier Boy where? C'mon, it has a delicious loli (complete with a nakky bath scene) in that nostalgic show.
Delicious Loli!?
Yeah! Re-do that! I've never heard of it before but re-do it! Digitally enhanced and remastered!
...
Especially the bath scene mentioned.
BLU-RAY uncensored.
Yes, please, Mospeada! Motorcycles that transform into battle armour!
I saw Patlabor before I became a really big anime freak on one of the movie channels, and I absolutely loved it. I think it's one of those that can really transcend national boundaries and become an international hit with the right marketing. I've never seen the rest of these--was too busy watching campy American made (although probably Japanese animated) cartoons in the 80s.
Mobile Suit Gundam is not there?!
you mean zeta? ZZ? or char's counterattack? cuz the first MS series was in 1979
also: where's metal armor dragnar!?
But it was brodcasted to 1980!
1979~1980
ShiraYuki619 is correct. It was still airing in 1980 making it an "80's anime".
@shirayuki619
"franchises like Gundam and Macross are still actively being made and so do not feature" should be all that is needed to be said, but as Naruga&Kirin stated, Mobile Suit Gundam was made in '79, and so that's just before this list
Thank god Gundam Seed Destiny is not in the list. I loved the fact Kira Yamato = Jesus Yamato and Strike Freedom = God Freedom Gundam.
Amen. Keep the original as is!
Gundam Seed Destiny isn't from the eighties so of course it wouldn't be remade. Second of all, in terms of Gundam series Gundam Seed is fucking atrocious. I hope that it never gets remade.
SEED was better than all the crap Tomino produced! HOLY SHIT I said it! Hate me now? :/
No i don't troll not intentionally anyways. I like seed well don't mind it at least. And while it was not the best by ANY stretch it wasn't okay maybe it was the worst but i still like it as well.
You sir fail hard. While unlike most i do not despise seed and actually enjoy it it has NOTHING on the oldschool series. In fact my top list is from the old days with series like V,Turn A, X and ZZ. Tomino's works were godly his stories weren;t crippled by a lack of character death he wasn;t scared to tell a hard hitting story. he knew what he wanted and he damn well ndid his best to share it with us. So DON'T mock the Tomino.
lol wat, Seed is probably the worst gundam series. You was trollin
Even though Macross isn't on the list, I would like to see a remake of the original series. The new Macross themed arcades got new versions of the original series, and that is seriously awesome!
Remade would be nice. Just keep it away from Hollywood.
Patlabor Fuck Yarh!
What about Gunbuster.
Woo Patlabor~
PATLABOR!!!!
i hope they don't change ed song, just remix it
Ah the 80's.
Never bothered with shows before my birthdate but Patlabor looks interesting ^^
its worth it
Yeah it is.
Its the Japanese ver. no dub or subs. i can only understand half of it, is that horrible enough .
Sure is, I still got Patlabor on VHS. :)
Only if you watch it with me. (^_-)
Whoever doesn't know Patlabor, TV is quite different from the darker movies. Both are great in their own way, though.
Go watch it! Nao!
watch it nao or get er... whatever seems horrible to you :)
how old are you? that sound like you have... 20 years or less?
My thoughts exactly Yoshii-kun. I figured that since I see myself as the beginning of awesomeness in this world and it was made before I was born then it isn't worth while; but I've recently been rethinking my stance based on some decent looking hows I've been presented with.
Aura Battler Dunbine! i'd like to see that remade.
in short:
80's=mecha ^.^
Not all of them. See Galaxy Express, Dr. Slump, Minky Momo, Barefoot Gen, Cat's Eye, Yamato, Golgo 13, Creamy Mami, Toward the Terra, Queen Millennia, Urusei Yatsura, Space Adventure Cobra, Macross, Cream Lemon, the very first loli H anime, Dirty Pair...
Okok, Lovely Angels. Don't hurt meeee~
d00d Macross is mecha, not only that but TRANSFORMING mecha.
Just let Oshii directs every show.
I just recently watched through all of the original Patlabor OVA, TV series, and the first two movies. Man that was so great. I totally agree, the world needs more Patlabor.
Especially in the style of some of the more serious stories. I'm not opposed to the humor, but there are some episodes that are funny because it's like a gag, and then there's other episodes that are funny because they're based on trials and tribulations most of us can relate to. The latter being the sort of humorous situations I enjoyed more.
I liked the realism. Like just because you have a giant robot with a gun doesn't mean you can start blasting the shit out of things. (Of course, that doesn't stop Ota, does it?) Just like Japanese police can't discharge their weapon except under the most dire circumstances and even then it's a pretty big 'incident'.
In the same vein is the constant trope-busting, like "Uh no. The mecha aren't magically just /fixed/ after every combat." or the entire episode dedicated to dealing with insurance claims for damages caused in the course of their duties.
And then there's the humor that's grounded in sort of everyday stuff, like an episode that has the entire maintenance staff on the verge of mutiny because lunch hasn't been delivered, culminating in them finally getting food.....poisoning. wwwwww
Why is everyone raging about Patlabor? The series was nice in the beginning because of it's characters but it got boring FAST!
Poor Votoms, you are never appreciated.
