The situation in Greece isn’t the consequence of Greece being a republic, but the fact that everyone and his uncle can land a cushy government job that involves no meaningful work, and the fact that tax evasion is a national sport over there.
Of course a government cannot work like that, flushing money down the toilet while simultaneously not keeping tabs on revenue. It wouldn’t have mattered if Greece would have been a soviet state, military dictatorship, or whatever else, it would still have gotten itself into this mess.
