Disgaea 4 Looking Good, But $115 Good?

Disgaea 4 has been announced as costing as much as ¥9,975, although fortunately comparisons reveal it is looking rather good – as visible in the above comparison.
The limited edition comes in at an astonishing ¥9,975 ($115), but even the peasant edition comes in at ¥7,140 ($85).
The high cost of the limited edition presumably is in large part due to the Fuuka Nendoroid Puchi, although the edition also includes the OST and a few cards and a booklet.
No word on DLC has been released, but if Disgaea 3 is anything to go by Nippon Ichi will be taking the opportunity to nickel and dime series fans with a dozen $2 characters.
The “network elements” – apparently the randomly appearing interdimensional pirates from the last two games can now actually take the form of other human players…
In the graphical department, the game, whilst still looking distinctly primitive, has at least upgraded its sprites from the shamefully low resolution of the previous title to something more reasonable, and looks quite nice as a result – compare:
Rarely has a franchise looked at once so bad and so good at the same time.

Who the FUCK would pay $115 for a video game? I can't even see why people are willing to pay over $30 in an age where practically anything is available for free if you don't mind not having a fancy box with a fancy manual.
because most people aren't complete retards and understand that if everyone pirated the games the companies making the games would go bankrupt. And if all of them went bankrupt, there would be none left to make more games. and if nobody made games, they would not get any new games.
it's simple logic fucktard, but still, you, and a lot of others, have a good point there, i doubt anyone would be willing to pay 115$ for a game, unless they shit money.
But... I like my fancy boxes and fancy manuals...
One hundred and fifteen dollars?!?!?! For something that looks like it was made in the Playstation 1 era? Are you serious?!
that's Nippon Ichi, they are like GameFreak and Nintendo with Pokemon, warming up and reselling the whole shit always in a new wrapping
Enlarge the picture. Now it looks Playstation 2 quality.
As long as Pleinair is there, its all good.
And it'll be $44.99 CAD when NIS America releases it.
And this is abnormal Japanese pricing how?
Not worth it all !! .. They use back the same character sprite design can be found from previous series. Is there no update at all ?? .. Other than the main character, is the solider still have the same sprite appear from previous series ?? .. I really don't care HD or not. I just care a new Idea which can add some new gameplay, and new system. From what I see in the PV all the element and soldier is totally same from previous series but just added new skill only.
Damn, Do want that fuuka nendo.
video games suck anyway
just stick to movies and some hentais
$115 for special edition not bad if it comes with good goodies.
I see no problem here.
85 bucks... Wow. Bend over son, we gonna have some fun.
Completely standard pricing and quite cheap when you consider how much Square Enix charge for their huge disappointments
NIS doesn't really make games that are any better than what Square-Enix makes.
They havent given their fans a big fuck you and went for the shooter market. Come back when N1 announce Disgaea Evolved, a shooter froma western shovelware company
am I the only one who thinks it D4 looks identical to D3?
Disgaea was nice and with 2 it got even better but then it just went down. I bet if you misplaced a character you still have to abort the whole move and pull him out of the panel again instead of being able just redo the moving.
Also do they do nothing to make use of the space they have available on the medium they use.
If at all I'll keep playing D2 for PSP, Nippon Ichi can shove the later ones up their asses
Poor Asagi...
Why no Asagi? lol
Is it Akutare/Axel a part of main chara?
Spotted on 2:11
Need Moar Etna!!
I'd even pay 300$ for Disgaea 4 if I have to! <3
*Spend all money making HD sprites*
*Do nothing with the music*
*Do nothing with the 3d backdrops*
*Do nothing with the animations*
Wow that Promotional Video really turned me off
GG NIS its been fun but I think its time you closed down.
fuck ps3. i didn't get disgaea 3 and if it's a ps3 only, i guess i won't be getting disgaea 4. shame since the main character looks cool for the first time since disgaea 1
although the game looks fun, personally I'd prefer a sequel to the anime. I may, eventually get the game.
Woah, there are curves in the sprites!
I'd totally buy the limited edition, but we all know the UK definitely won't get it
It's like Marvel vs Capcom 2, it's a good game but you wouldn't spend over 100 dollars on it.
I saw shana again.. fap fap fap..
not cool dood
In the bottom part of the second picture, there's a character with a red boxing glove facing off against some chickens.
The character is naked to the waist, and if it's *supposed* to be a male, it has a serious case of man-boobs.
Pass.
It's called muscles.
Pectorals to be exact.
Just cause it should be mentioned, I don't think Haradaya has created any character as cute and awesome as Fuuka (the Prinny-baseballbat girl)
I spot Flonne and Axell!
Will pay the fee.
I will have to sell another of my organs.
You can live with only two organs???
OH I SURE WONDER WHY PEOPLE PIRATE.
That's too much money for a game from this series.
I don't know if it is worth that much, but considering what Banpresto can do with 2D Sprites in Super Robot Wars Z on Playstation 2, I pretty much doubt it, but it is just me.
the girl chara wearing the blue coat reminds me of nadeko sengoku...
Downloaded games look better and cost less.
but they ain't Disgaea dood
Pre-Ordered mine for 8250¥ ($96 today)... With a February release date, who knows what the exchange rates will be. If the dollar balances, it will be a decent amount less. Then again, it could be more by then. But I can't pass up a nendoroid!!! Grabbed the Poplar (Working!!) Nendoroid pre-order at the same time =)
This is non-news. The prices in yen are completely in line with other games priced in yen(7,000¥+ for standard/normal editions, 9,000-10,000¥+ for pricey special/collectors/whatever editions). Listing the price in dollars is misleading, as the conversion rate between US dollars to yen is crazy right now ($1 to ~85¥ right now, compared to the $1 to ~120¥ average between 2006-2008, or even the $1 to ~100¥ average during 2009.) Doing this to other games gives us prices we know to be invalid, Halo: Reach(standard edition) is priced at 7,140¥ or ~$84 dollars, Mario Galaxy 2 is 5,800¥ or ~$67, and so on.
There is no reason to NOT assume that it's going to be priced in line with other games when released in the US at $60 for the normal edition, and $90 or $100 for the limited edition.
I suppose we should be panicking that Pokemon Black and White cost $56(4,800¥) each...
So I guess most people here don't realize it's the japanese pricing? And it's normal to rip off otakus over there
So basically it costs as much as any other JRPG, except the limited edition which includes extra things and costs more.
I'm glad to see SanCom's high standard of insightful reporting is being maintained.
Meh, I was hoping that even though we're still stuck with sprites that the line art characters that pop up would blink and move their mouths when they speak... I'll still get the game and what not but i'm rather disappointed
115$ for a game? Sssss...III dont know....
It's like living in Australia where every new game is like $110-120
Ehh, gotto wait for te price drop I guess..Don't feel like dishing out enough money to buy 2 games for 1.
Buying 1 game for 2 you mean right?
The Nendoroid Puchi looks good, if not, cute enough to get xD
remember when games were like 50 bucks max
when was that time for PS3 games i cant actually remember
on another note even PC games are pretty hefty (Starcraft 2 40€ (88 € for special ed)in germany or is that actually cheap)
Have you played before the PS3? The back in ps2 era games were $50.
Well you can still get cheap ps2 games...
