Storyboards from the Evangelion 2.0 movie show a scene in which Asuka was apparently hideously mutilated, having her face peeled off and pierced by “hell’s needles” – thankfully for Asuka fans, the scene was cut in its entirety.
The storyboards in question, published officially with a variety of other production materials:
Fans seem to be divided as to whether the cuts were the right decision – some would have welcomed harsher or even grotesque scenes, whilst others point to a cult of Asuka worshippers who might have been adversely affected by any Asuka mutilation, or simply to fact that such a scene might have been in poor taste.

It would be interesting to see how many fans they would loose and what the fans would do...you can't suck more than by ruining the main character...
Asuka is my favorite female character in Eva, and I personally don't like Mari too much. Still, even if she wasn't, there's a point where it goes too far. It already way crossed that in EoE, and this makes it even worse--it's bad enough they have Mari taking screentime away from both Rei and Asuka, but if they killed Asuka off ignominiously like this I'm sure there would have been...well, a backlash they're used to with Eva. Either way, they've already killed her in a spectacularly gruesome way once, no need to reinvent the wheel.
People would hope something would happen.
This is weird. Everyone is all "OMG I don't know what I'd do if something like that happened to Asuka!"
And I just am dumbfounded. Didn't she get torn to pieces in end of eva? Didn't she get mind raped in the series?

I've always hated Asuka, but that's not the reason I would have loved to see this animated.
Evangelion 2.0 was awesome as it is so Im not bothered that they didnt include this in it. Frankly, I have a bit of a weak stomach for guro so I am actually glad that it wasnt in the movie.

Actually, her face get ripped, they talk, (it says "it's not like you" so she decided to become her old self again and puts her face back on manually) and then she seems to be back to normal.
This is the typical mindfuck-ish crazy experiences that evan is known for, i wouldn't be surprised if it had made it in.
I don't even understand Japanese, and I was able to pick up on that. I was worried that no one else noticed, this scene would have been fine even with Asuka fans. I mean something about grabbing her face and jamming it back on is awesome.
WTF...If they would do this it would be like when moe-blobs are not virgins - Nagi, Ritsu. Fans would start to destroy their Eva stuff, brake DVDs, burn posters...
It's horrible that they even considered it - this shows they have no idea about what fans want and why they like it...

Speaking of Asuka, have you guys read an Eva doujin called "Evangelion Retake"(18+)? Best freaking Eva doujin manga ever, with lots of Asuka love!!!!! And it has a very satisfying conclusion to the TV series' plot. Love live Asuka! I better see some BL between Shinji and Kaworu in the next movie, or this will cease to be Eva in my mind.
Well in a way 2.22 DID end with Kaworu "spearing Shinji from behind" Maybe its another one of those metaphors again hehe, plus his comment about "I will make you happy this time" could be read in a innocent context or a 18+ context depending on how your mind works.....:P
What a shame it was dropped - if any anime character deserved this treatment it is Asuka.

I'm pretty sure the gore wasn't the reason they discarded that scene. I'm not even THAT much of an Asuka fan, but even I would've been pissed off... imagine the legions of Asuka worshipers' reaction... Also injuring her this much (even if she survived that, which would already be beyond improbable) would've basically ruled out any chance of her appearing in the third movie.

Now, seriously, I disagree that they hate her. If my thinking is right and Hideaki Anno finally decided to turn all the series endings and movies into alternatives that happened after the resets caused by Shinji, we might happen to see the pilots finally getting acceptable endings - maybe another reality without Evas, something like was pictured in the episode 25 & 26 of the series (not EoE). This of course includes Asuka. As far as I noticed, Anno managed to improve their characters in a way it suggests they learned from their past mistakes even if they aren't conscious of it (yet). That's why Shinji got to be so badass this time. That's why Asuka accepted Rei. That's why Rei fought back. IMHO it would be the best if they mentioned the other endings in the movie as those that actually happened too, but that's just my wish.
Lastly, being marketing specialists as Gainax is (are) I can't imagine they'd keep selling Asuka's figurines etc. if people knew she ended up shredded into pieces. Eye-patch - ok, that's how she ended in EoE so in a way there is consequence. But pointless guro? - that just wouldn't work. At least not for me.

Seen it both of the movies!! The second movie has a lot of changes when compared to the TV series. It is quite good now and the story is better told. The story actually makes sense now.
I sincerely encourage every one, fan or casual viewer, to see both of the movies. This is how actually the TV series should had been from the start...
