“The west = as close to realistic as possible
Japan = as far away from realistic as possible”

I think that’s the point. Different culture, different art, different purposes.
Japan likes the romantic thought of refuge from reality, while the west tries to create a realistic adventure to let it feel like a real experience and maybe even to compensate the real experiences with this one (a bit of prove yourself).

In my point of view (european) it’s good both kind of games exist, from time to time I enjoy both. Mocking each other to say what is best or trying to merge is a bad thing. Accept it and don’t play it if you don’t like it.
