This is one of the best zombie apocalypse stories (both plot and characters) I've ever seen and I've seen a fair share of it. The best trait is that it's a complexe story and characters are deeper than they look.
The fanservice everyone is unhappy about is actually a comic relief. Without fanservice the events would be a bit depressing, don't you think? (Well, maybe not if someone is a goth or a necrophile) ;-D
Anyway, it's worth watching/reading.
Oh, and preparing for a zombie apocalypse...
