You think things between the US and Japan are bad now, supposedly, the US may attend this years Hiroshima memorial, the 65th anniversary of the bombing. I think the right thing for the USA to do is to take all our troops out of Japan as well as countries that don't want or need us. Plus, if we want to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, we should focus on moving our troops over there so we can get the out of those countries where we don't need to be.

The US DoD is developing MECHA right now. They don't consider them impractical.

MECHA is an outgrowth of their exoskeleton project. The exoskeleton is used so the infantry can carry 200 to 500 pounds of equipment and not be tired by it. Once they reached 500 pounds of ammo and heavy armament as well as normal gear on the exo, they want to add armor plates to it, to deflect IEDs. So you have a heavily armed and heavily armored powered suit with an infantry soldier in it. If that isn't a MECHA, then what is?

They aren't interested in 100 feet tall biped vehicles. But given the way military designs often supersize, it wouldn't be an unusual development if they went with 100 foot tall 4 footed or 6 footed vehicle. American already have large equipment that operate on 6 feet rather than wheels or caterpillar threads, as automated lumber cutting equipment.

Being stationed on Okinawa things the Japanese say are blown way out of proportion. Several reasons why; first when the bases were first built with maybe the exception to the Army base and the Marine base in Naha everything was wide open, second US/Japan crime rate is very low,third the locals rely on us for jobs, and the last one is for peace keeping/deterrence in the region.

If you look at any of the footage of the battles that survived the Okinawan campaign you can see most of it is jungle, or farmland. Much of northern Okinawa sill looks like that. Like most airports and military bases, they were built away from cities to prevent accidents from plane crashes and not disturb locals with training exercises. But like most silly people everyone started to build around the bases or towards them as the populace grew. So thus the populace making demands on the military not to fly at night, or full after burners or hell leave the area that was already occupied by the military because they wanted it. As an Air Force member supporting a flying squadron, we had to but our night ops to nil, and practice out in the ocean due to the "complaints" we got from the Okinawan governor and the Japanese government. BTW these planes were turboprops not noisy jets!

Second when there for 3 years only 1 rape might have happened the whole time. 1 in 3 years!!! But we have this image of raping soldiers/marines. They have special rail cars for women only in the major cities due to groping and stuff, guess what they arent Americans be it military or dependents but Japanese men doing it. Plus many other places we had to have them to get our mission done. If we were to pull out those thousands of people would be jobless, but that wouldnt hurt the island economy on the whole. She has three or four trading ports, it is the resort islands for Japan and the region. But on the local level until those people could get jobs would devastate whole cities.

Okinawa has a very special place as the keystone to the Pacific. China and North Korea are the big threats, but there is the Phillipine Islands many terrorist groups that are enemies to the free loving world. Resort nation Thailand with its terrorists and separatists that threaten its nation and the surrounding nations. Pakistan and India with their nukes. List goes on and on, and we are the "world police" because no one else will step in and help out countries in need.

Japan has an army, not powerful enough to stop North Korea or China if they decided to use military might. Thus they have been in cooperation with the US to build/share technology.

So on these reason stated I feel the US staying in Japan has merits. Land use by Okinawas, American service memebers/dependents not acting with honor, whole cities being employed by the US and the threat to Japan and the region as a whole.

I hope this dispells some issues with American and the bases stationed in Japan.
