Mummification while still alive is probably the weirdest thing I’ve heard recently. For religion or not, he basically committed suicide by starvation.

Silly Japanese old man, he won’t obtain enlightenment if his goal was just to wrap himself in cloth and die, and even after he died, nobody would worship him.
