Dengeki’s unrivalled reputation for employing and even awarding prizes to flagrant plagiarists continues to worsen, with yet another major incident – in this case actually involving a well known title, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu (pictured with a pool cue above).
The cover of the 12th volume of the light novel, illustrated by Shaa, bears a more than uncanny resemblance to an unconnected illustration of pachinko mascot Rio, usually illustrated by Koutaro.
In fact, this is the third time complaints have been raised about Shaa tracing or otherwise appropriating the art of others – including at least one formal apology, it seems.
His previous efforts, with his versions on the left:
Dengeki appears to be garnering quite the reputation for such antics – Japanese publishers are apparently unable or unwilling to sue them into line, and despite the usual Japanese theatre of bowing and scraping little has changed.

The detectives at 2ch never cease to amaze us.
Their eyes never seem to miss anything off...
maybe they use some software that even FBI lacks...
This is a shame, because character design-wise, I think Shaa does a great job with the Nogisaka art. Shame the artist copied off poses.
Well, the 2 Channers got a future as investigators.
^ Maybe you are the retard.
I believe that software is called "Eden"...
ARE YOU ALL FUCKING RETARDED?! USING SIMILAR CLOTHES AND POSE ON COMPLETLY DIFFERENT CHARACTER ISN'T PLAGIARISM.
I suspect theres just so much careful plagiarism in japanese media that 2ch finds some whenever they look in a generic direction... it's all about having time to look, maybe?
Exactly. The poses a body can produce are limited. I bet every possible pose has been done multiple times already.
Same for clothes. Fantasy uniforms aside every possible combination of clothes has been done.
You will find lookalikes for everything if you just search hard enough - and the guys at 2ch seem to search really hard. I guess they have too much free time. ^_^
I agree with shouting anon, copying poses isnt plagiarism(clothes mebbe) else we wont be able to see our favorite characters making the pose we want, not officially at least if even one renowned artist did it already, or fanart from famous ppl
In fact if it werent for 2ch we wouldnt care at all, and dengeki could be just one of many other publishers that award plagiarism on clear knowledge of it.
Otakus at 2ch are just retarded hikikomori, or office men playing hooky, or just NEETS.... Poor souls!
Anon is correct. Similar clothes and pose does not mean plagiarism.
Maybe they are just complete retards?
Yes I believe it's called ROW ROW OTAKU POWA!!
No it's something they have which is holding them back.
A LIFE!
It's the power of slantiness.
byakugan!?!?!?
What amazes me is that one would have to assume plagiarism on -everything- to catch all this stuff right?
coincidence. the lines never even meeet once. the are just similar poses. i'll bet i can get on google and find a dozen in similar poses.
ENHANCE!
It seems that when 2ch'ers band together, they can function like a supercomputer. Maybe NEETs have an untapped potential after all.
yea, i heard that if you gather 20,000 naked NEETs in one place they become the ultimate missile defense system (eden of the east, anyone?)
oh come on man...don't get so carried away....
.since our brainwaves are unconsciously linked together by the AIM fields that we are constantly emanating,we are instantaneously sharing thoughts and ideas from one brain to another, making us into the fastest and most efficient (we're organic, so fck yeah!) super computer ever since the Railgun series!!
..oops. ^^;
I agree.
@美味しいケーキ。Delicake!
Super Computer NEETwork at full capacity...
The faggots at 2ch never cease to amaze us.
There fix'd that for you.
^ faggots never cease to amaze us.
*fixed*
I don't really hate it though, since I actually want to see Haruka wearing Rio's costume... lol
Everything looks better with Haruka's head.
That's a little bit stupid; Just because the pose and the clothes are the same doesn't mean is plagiarism; tell me that when you see exactly the same image only with a change of hair and color design...I just see the pose and the clothes are the same....big deal. It's not like the clothes were made by a designer and the pose is utterly property of someone with intelectual rights....
Sometimes NEET's have way too much free time...
I drew someone of standing once... then someone accusing me of plagarism...
it's not plagiarism if the person is standing with more than two legs...
also "Good artists borrow, great artists steal"
LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNND !!!
Well, no, thats not the same picture.
I mean, check the left Picture.
At first they seem to look the same, but.
The Left Hand on the Left Picture doesnt match with the right Pictures Hand.
And the Head doesnt look the same, its just different at the left Pic.
Btw, there isnt much another way to draw a person sitting on a table.
So?
My question: so fucking what?
''despite the usual Japanese theatre of bowing and scraping little has changed''
Oh yes, let's a sue each other to hell instead of a demaning a formal apology.
Too bad that Shaa does better picture overall.
isn't that Rio chick in that crappy DOAX game for PSP?
well, i don't care about that, but what i want to know is where can i find that haruka picture in HQ??
So same poses is now considered as plagiarism? Seriously, is 2ch running out of actual plagiarists to bust?
That reminds me, there should be more doujinshi from that series . . ..
Can't Dengeki just fire this artist and be done with it?
I'm going to create a manga and the main character will be female, have 2 boobs, 2 legs and arms and 1 head. The promotional picture will show her sitting down in a clasroom as head of the student council in her school. She appears tough and is a tsundere.
As you can see with what I typed, even an innocent idea turns into plagiarism when this logic is applied. The tools for which manga itself is made is "knock-offs" to whoever is accusing the artists.
The killing news will probably be: Mangaka plagiarizes school manga!! Must be stopped at all cost before he makes any money from making manga!!!
How can people draw, if what they draw turns to "copying" even when it's unintentional? I cannot see how this can be stopped if it were true.
Hm, obvious simmonsing is obvious ( second pic ) however the picture in question doesn't seem as plagiarism to me...And so the third as well...
There are hundreds of popular poses that have been re-used during the history of illustrating especially in the anime/manga industry since certain poses are expressing a certain emotion or state...
Reference usage and inspiration are very close to plagiarism, the difference is how the original is used...
I don't say the artist isn't a copycat but there is the chance he/she just thought : Oh, I wanna do something similar too! or Wow, that's cute, I wanna try that with my characters!
So is that plagiarism, reference or inspiration?
In what freaking way is this plagiarism? The poses are similar, but that's about it, there's more than enough differences and originality to make up for any similarities. I can't even begin to count how many times I've seen the "girl crouching with sword" pose in pic 3... and "sitting in slutty clothes", that one is VERY original...
Then again the rtards at 2chan screamed plagiarism because they found a cloud in K-ON that looked similar to a cloud on a photo, so I guess crap like this isn't that surprising.
Guess you could hope that it's more of a "look at me I'm such a geek I remember every pose and every frame from every obscure anime/manga!" rather than "This guy needs to burn in hell because he copies!!!!!!".
I don't like artists or companies Simmonsing, but... I love the looks of _both_ the characters in the topmost image in this article!
Looks more like a coincidence rather then blatant plagiarism to me...
How does the phrase go?
Once is a fluke, twice is a coincidence, three times is...
@ Anon 13:23 :
It's "... three times is enemy action."
Don't look at the details, they've been changed a bit. Look instead at the general shapes and the outlines. They match way too much to be coincidence.
But there are only a limited number of poses and facial features available in existence.
How many different ways can you show a person sitting on a chair?
-open legged
-close legged
-lying back
-etc..
