Official: Evangelion Better Than Michael Jackson

test-plugsuit-asuka-by-rie.jpg

Surpassing initial expectations, Evangelion 2.22 has outsold even the mouldering corpse of Michael Jackson to become the best selling Blu-ray ever.

Oricon statistics show that in its first week the movie’s Blu-ray release sold a magnificent 357,000 copies, the best selling Blu-ray ever in Japan – the runner up being the zombie prince of pederasty Michael Jackson, with his posthumously released “This Is It” garnering only a pathetic 351,000 copies.

Combined DVD and Blu-ray sales are already said to have reached 640,000 – the best selling “anime” anime of all time, and the 14th best selling anime ever – only mass market Ghibli and Disney animation boasts higher sales in Japan.

Maybe he was messed up, maybe he had some moral issues, but that doesn't mean that his songs are bad. I don't care who's singing a good song as long as they're singing it...they did sing it....Still, whether he was innocent or not, whoever accused him still won by ruining his reputation forever.

Still, I'm happier to hear that Evangelion will still likely be remembered for another 25 years....It's not like there's going to be another recent anime that'll become a bigger classic. Everything's just so forgettable nowadays.

i like to think of it like this. If Eva can beat "this is it" international sales then I'll be impressed. as of now it just mean it's the shit in Japan. which really doesn't affect me at all

So in japan an anime movie is succesful. . . is that suposed to be a surprise?

When international sales make that much sales, now that would be something. . .
But is not going to happen anytime soon... especially with people that are already downloading this movie.

And why numbers are supouse to mean that something is better? by that logic Jersey Shore must be a hell of a show, right?

Do you know how MJ got his unique singing style? No?
He had a lot of hemorrhoids, so when dancing to music every sudden movement caused much pain down there, making him let out those hiccup and swallowing noises. Reason for his hemorrhoids?
He was a sou-uke for all male family members in 15 years.

    00:32 03/06/2010 # ! Neutral (0)

by TODAY'S standards, and relative to all other current forms of video, BD is as "crystal-clear" as it's going to get anytime soon (as in, in the next year or so, at least). Heck, back in the days of Beta Cassette, we thought that was as good as it was going to get. And the Atari 2600, everyone thought that that was the epitome of gaming. And look where we are now.

There's no problem with calling BD "crystal-clear", because, for all WE'RE concerned TODAY, it IS "crystal-clear."

I agree to a certain extent. Rebuild is amazing, but definitely not on par to the hype I've read about it. Maybe it's the fact that they made Shinji so cheery and watered down Asuka's emotions. I mean I hardly felt anything for her when...stuff happened to her.

They watered down pretty much all the characters' unlikable properties really, even Rei is showing her emotions much more often.
It doesn't mean it's less enjoyable at all, I mean look at all the eyecandy of the battles for one and a lot of the scenes they remade in somewhat funny ways. I highly approve of the new movie series.

yeah, the nauseous 'innocence' flick with all that corpse green was then infected into the original to "tie" them up. I'm grateful they still left in the Original for the blu-ray as a offhand hand-me-down~
I'm even more grateful that they made a tv show! ... though they went back to that oshii dude for ideas in the sequel.. I can't imagine that man has finally grown out of his anti- government/American yet.

You need to screw that loose head in, tight.

I would have said the same thing after the series and Death and Rebirth, but not for this tetralogy.

    Good remake is good!

Death was an epic movie. End of Evangelion did lack something, though.

    @Hentai_Jp: No.

Death, kind of a short version of the first 24 episodes of EVANGELION, but in another order and with classical music. That one was epic.

End of Evangelion, pretty much everyone dies. Lots of action, but still.. there's something missing. I like the way Shinji acts all through the series, so it's not his balls that are lacking. Still,... but I can't point it out.

If you think those are spoiler you are mistaken. Anyone who didn't know that can't blame anyone but himself.

After watching Eva series and then trying the end of Eva movie, I also thought something was wrong. Just none of the characters seemed to retain their personalities; it all seemed so forced. Truthfully, I didn't even bother finishing the movie due to disapointment =/

Honestly, the 'End of Evangelion' was the closet Gainex ever got to completing the original tv show. In case you have never seen it or have forgotten much of all within like the creator who laid all those lovely cool ideas in the middle and Dumped them.
One of the last teasers showed Misato on the floor with a trail of blood on the wall with Ritsuko face forward in the water... and then we get emo boys' deluded ending~

am i the only one that prefers the original end to eva (the tv end) over the movie?

more than that, am i the only one that got it?

that said, the only end for eva that is better than the tv ent is, funnily enough, made not made by eva people.

    RE-Take

read it all if you never had, its evas best end.

What you read isn't wrong, but was addressed to people who didn't know how to take the TV-Ending. They were told to not think too hard about it and just watch the action movie they were about to get. Of course, they couldn't understand the ending of that one too.

Some were even claiming, that End of Evangelion was something like punishment for the fans, which is, of course, ridiculous.

iv read before that the movie was a remake of the end because of how much people didnt like it. and that if you want to watch it to forget the last 2 episodes.

    granted i could be wrong.

I also prefer the TV-series ending, but asking if anyone got it is the wrong question. People see different things in the ending, given they see something in it in the first place. I saw the completion of the human instrumentality project, which united every persons thoughts. I saw the same in End of Evangelion, but I liked the inner point of view more. There the conclusion was more obvious. The movie only showed what was explained in the TV-Series.

I don't see it as being played out, they made the series, then redid the ending, made a directors cut and that's about it. Other than a couple of manga series they haven't really touched it in years, I'm not including figures and stuff cause that doesn't add to the Evangelion Universe in any way.

The Rebuild Movies are great in my opinion, they cut out a lot of the pointless BS and are much more streamlined. Plus they look great.

One thing I don't really get about 2.22 though is; they show Rei's nipples but not Asuka's. That kinda made me scratch my head a little.

    First Asuka then Rei

I'm not even sure it IS a remake. Kaworu says "I'll make you happy this time, Shinji", implying he's got some knowledge about the other series. For all we know, it could all just be one rlybig Higurashi copy.

    Again.
Watch the teaser of the 24th episode again and come back and apologize to everyone about your lying your kandy ass off about "redid"ing anything. The Gainex crew went back to the ORIGINAL endings and made a Final movie out of it!

Funny how in 2.22, Touji says that he's unlucky when he sees the popsicle stick, cuz in the original anime, he was the one supposed to be piloting Eva 05, not Asuka. There're a lot of little stuff like that in the remake which are awesome to discover

You're just being picky there. Whether or not End of Evangelion was the "ORIGINAL" intended ending or not, the fact is it wasn't produced during the original airing of the show (due to time and budget constraints). Thus they Redid the ending they created for the show and replaced it with the different "ORIGINAL" ending that the writer had intended to have rap up the series.

As it stands the original Eps 25 and 26 take place mostly in the psyches of the main characters. While EoE takes place in the real world. It can be viewed as either an alternate reality all together or as an account of what was happening in the real world at the time everyone was loosing their final grips on sanity.

So ya; a remake is a remake, even if the remake was the intended outcome from the start.
