Luxury Evangelion Bento Distinctly Underwhelming

Even the most devout of Evangelion fans are feeling jaded about the official NERV Taimeshi Bento currently being hawked in limited edition form by anime store chain Animate for the princely sum of $15.
For those wondering, Taimeshi is simply rice with minced sea bream, and usually sells for ¥400 or so in large bento format, a far cry from the ¥1300 price NERV rations evidently command. The bento box itself is made out of high quality plastic and also comes with some NERV wooden chopsticks – the height of luxury for otaku diners.

If you take into account that the bento box is included then it might justify the price. It's sad that the design of the box is very minimalist. Damn! That's a lot of rice! I can eat only half of that and be full already.

I'll sell you a fig leaf with the NERV logo for $25. I also have NERV labeled apples that I'm selling for $10 each, best part the apples are edible.

I doubt EVA rice would have much appeal no matter how high quality it was.
Clearly this is about the box. After you eat the contents you can have your childhood friend who is also your neighbor and comes to wake you up in the morning make you bento in the box. Then, when you take it to school you'll be the coolest guy in the class. Right?
