Confirmation bias: It has been shown in many research programmes that when an apparently mentally healthy person gets diagnosed by a psychiatrist who for an external reason suspects an illness, anywhere from 30% to 70% get false positive diagnoses.

Selection bias: This research included only hikikomori that went looking for mental help. So the news should be that 20% of hikikomori who think they are mentally ill are actually healthy.
