The Ninja Gaiden series of games tend to be hard.

Battletoads was a game where 2-player games were a lot harder.

Trust me, this list is for the the feint of heart. Angry Video Game Nerd's lists of games beats these all by a mile. The people or person that did this list obviously isn't a real hardcore gamer. As for hardest modern game? I'd say it's Halo 2 with all the skulls on. Then after weeping tears of blood for fifteen hours straight with no breaks, you might get past the first level.

There is one drawback of putting Ninja Gaiden or Devil May Cry on this list. That is, despite how hard they actually are, they are way too fun, enough so that too many people have actually finished the games.

I've played all those games, and I've gotta say, some of those games just don't belong there. They were hard, but there's bound to be others like even the SNES Contra version was harder than Devil May Cry 3.

this list is about right, of course there are other countless games that could made the top ten.

just about every cave shooter could be on here but i suppose they just wanted to have a wide array of genres.

some games are just hard by design, like dmc3 but others more so to technical issues, like poor camera or buggy programming, in either case, games are just not as hard as they used to be.

MGS 1, really? REALLY? I'm sorry but if you find that game that's just sad (BEST SERIES EVER!). Demon's soul doesn't deserve 4th place. It's an awesome game but in no way as difficult as noobs make it sound.

On that list, I am sad to say that I've only played dmc3 and mgs. They weren't that difficult. I would sooner say a rhythm game or "i wanna be the guy" would be tougher. Though I have to admit I'm not particularly fond of rhythm games.

About Contra : i got something that is very similar on Game Boy and is named Probotector... after a little lookup on wikipedia is actually the Pal version that is named like this. And yes is very hard .. never passed stage 3 -_-

I don't know about the rest, but if you play DMC3 in easy mode, then you might be done within 3 hours.

I've played some of the games on the list. Contra was a bit easy, MGS was fair, and DMC3 is not too hard (except in DMD mode). Ninja Gaiden Black is extremely difficult, but not as ridiculously hard as NGII.

Well, to me, I find Star Ocean: Till the end of time quite hard mainly because of the ending Sphere part but hey, everyone has their own difficulties

Ninja Gaiden didn't seem hard compared to most other "hard" games. MGS up there is pretty weird, but then again I never attempted a Big Boss run. Shinobi is by far the most frustrating game for me.

Not sure how hard Battletoads was, as whenever I try a ROM it crashes, but I managed to solo Battletoads & Double Dragon so how hard could the original be?

This list is pussified. The only ones I agree with is Demon's Soul and DMC3, to a very lesser extent. The other games on this list are not that hard to be worthy of being on this list. But I will agree that Ninja Gaiden is a bitch and a half, though a second playthrough always feels the easiest for me, for some odd reason.

IMO battletech by Malibu (sega genesis) was a lot harder than battletoads or even jet set willy, but i guess if nobody knew about it than nobody would judge it...

Devil May Cry 3 Hard? Excuse me while I go laugh my ass off while trying to recover it in the process. Really I don't see why it would belong here, it's not a hard game at all. The only two places that would be considered "hard" in the game (even in the special edition) would be Bloody Palace and if you wanted to do Dante Must Die setting.
