Official Windows 7 mascot Nanami Madobe has appeared in her own anime, exhorting people to build their own PC (naturally enough a boxy little Windows media centre PC).
Although undeniably glossy and well conceived, Nanami actually seems to have achieved little traction in comparison to previous OS-tans – the amount of fan art of her is minimal, and she is entirely devoid of the kind of tongue-in-cheek references which made previous OS-tans so endearing.

I like this clip but can't really picture Microsoft as a humble and honorable company like this japanese-like anime girl suggests. Microsoft cannot be trusted, they can't stand competition and they have broken antitrust laws. Their most known case was to give out a browser for free, subsidized by Windows, ruining the browser market and then polluting the web standard so other browser would render web pages wrong.
Nanami fails at building PCs... you can't use an AMD board with an Intel chip... BROOKLYN RAGE~!

I'd have to agree. The other OS tans had flavor, style and some logical relationship with the OS's they were supposedly representing.
Nanami is well, cute and all. But just that. She's overall boring and uninteresting.
Maybe making an official OS tan wasn't such a good move after all.
Hmmm... maybe she's fit for her time.
Think about it:
- older anime -> more variable -> more variable OS-tans
- nowadays anime -> mostly moe -> (rather)moe OS-tan

Windows? Never again! Dad's PC was so clogged with viruses, I pretty much forced him to move to Linux Mint. He adapted pretty quickly, and it works much better: light, solid, and secure. No more malware problems for me to fix!
Give Windows another try, anon. A bad experience w/ Me or XP (before service packs) is gone with Win7.
I *have* used 7, and it did not impress me; Mint did.
I was given a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit license by a technological institution, but I don't want to install it until I get myself two 1 GB DDR2-800 SDRAM modules to replace my lone 1 GB DDR2-667 in order to be sure it'll have good performance.

Don't really care about Nanami-tan, but I do want Nana Mizuki's voice on my windows.
No love for the other 5 somewhat-official -tans? I like Nanae better than Nanami, sadly. Mature > all ditzy whores.
That said, I can understand why Nanami isn't as pop as, say, WinXP.
1. Nanami's officially sanctioned, and regardless of people installing M$'s over Macs all over, it's easier to hate M$ for their practices. Not even Nana Mizuki can change that.
2. She doesn't have the charm. Being officially sanctioned, of course M$ wouldn't want Nanami to have a speck of flaw present in her appearance. PR 101, folks. Fan-designers don't that to limit them. This of course, brings an important issue of corporate humility, which M$ seemingly lacks.
So far, I haven't read or heard any glaring issues with Windows 7 as compared to XP's excessive memory use or Vista's overall failure. My own Pro 64bit is ace. Any techies notice anything?

I used to believe that Apple LCD monitors are just as good as CRTs for graphic design, since everyone in the design industry here taught me so. Boy was I wrong.

this ad was of high production quality and is worthy of being praised, plus nana mizuki but since the character is "officially" made by microsoft, it kinda defeats the purpose of hiving os-tans. still she's pretty cute tho.

I love Nanami! Since I got Win7 it has been my only theme, I never change it. I thought people may find it weird but my family likes it, even my girlfriend.

Personally, I'm glad that Nanami isn't getting as much love as previous fan-created OS-tans. IMO the fact that she's an official OS-tan just takes out a large part of the charm that previous OS-tans had.

that's not advertising. if people were to build their pc's from scratch Microsoft would lost A LOT of money. do you really think that pre-installed windows which comes with all new pc's is free? nop.
pre builts actuly loose them money , it is sold preinstall for 50.00 (avg) and a oem version (custom) is sold for 110 (avg) so build it your self is actuly better 4 them

It may not have as many shout-outs as other OS-tans, but 7-tan/Nanami Madobe has what no other OS-tan has: an anime (no matter how fucken' short it is).
Hopefully there'll be more stuff like this in the future.

Same here, although I had to disable the "chin" sound, as it got really annoying after awhile: "chin... chin... ch-ch-chi-c-c-c-chin... chin-chin... chin..." yeah, sadly it had to go.

AGREED, that "chin" sound was KILLING ME... Oh and it was kinda awkward when my friends were watching a youtube vid on my laptop, when Namami came in saying it was low on power...

I could say the same for Microsoft. Their products are barely a step above Apple, but at least Jobs isn't likely to throw a chair at you or go mental if you bring a MS Mobile device within his visual range.

yeah right now I only have like half the sounds on. The sounds were fine at first....I might not have mind the chin sound if I didn't hear "chin" a few seconds into playing a song or video every time.
It would be nice if there were other versions of this theme....I'm starting to feel like switching it up a bit.

She's the only one with an anime because she's the only official OS-tan. Other OS-tans never had a chance at getting their own anime since they were all fan made, but if MS had created them then they probably would have had their own anime shorts as well.
It doesn't really matter whether she has an anime or not. Since all the other OS-tans are fan created, then the only real way to compare her with previous OS-tans is to compare the amount of fan-art.
I was just commenting on how Artefact seems to favor the older OS-tans when Nanami is still quite new. I say give her some time.

I use moe sounds on my notebooks for more than 10 years now. Wherever I go.

In the cases where I've taken my laptop in public, girls think its cute (as well as the Shanghai Doll mouse cursor and Kazami Yuuka trashbin) and guys think its weird but also say that a "talking" PC is kinda cool.
