Lawson, one of the largest chains of convenience stores in Japan, has opened an Evangelion themed store on the site of Tokyo-3.
The breadth of goods and theming is so extensive as to be most concisely described through pictures, of which there are a profusion below:
As might be expected of a “Tokyo-3″ store, it is situated in Hakone; those wishing to pay a visit should note it appears set to close May 17th and revert to a more mundane status.

If I lived near Hakone this would the only convenience store I ever shop in.
Pity Lawson isn't considering making it permanent, or it'll become a regular otaku pilgrimage spot and major cash cow.
Just like how the proprietors of Washinomoya Shrine in Saitama and Toyosato Primary School in Shiga realized when Lucky Star and K-ON fans began to flock to those places respectively in droves.
yup...
i came...
man, even the plastic sacks are cool!
um excuse me, could i buy ur store refrigerator doors please? yup, both of them.
this is paradise
Branch of this in Germany.Now. Asuka would aprove for sure.
Pfff... yet another reason to go to Japan.
A lot of Lawsons here have elaborate Eva setups. Not as crazy as this, but most of them sell Eva products year round.
"God is in this store. All is right with the world."
Reminds me of that Simpsons thing 7-11 did a while back
do they sell tang there?
I just came... just from looking... WAIT, ARE THOSE EVA THEMED SKULL CANDY HEADPHONES???
Wow, I can so imagine the potential nightmare a typical, non-anime-watching customer would face if one simply wants to get a box of detergent...
Customer: "A box of laundry detergent, please?"
Store clerk: "Sure. Would you like the Melchior, Balthasar or Casper variant? Would you prefer the Unit-00, Unit-01, Unit-02, Unit-03, Unit-04 or Unit-05 grade? Rei, Asuka or Mari flavours?"
Customer: *o_0* *Faints....*
Nevermind Bandai makes them.
*facepalm to headdesk*
This is pretty insane. I'm always baffled by how popular Eva is in Japan. Is everyone there really that depressed or are they all just missing the point?
Stop this, please....
This is awsome.
Rei and Häggen-Dazs... In the same store... That's awesome!!!
Hakone is only 2 hours away from Shinjuku it looks like. I'll have to make a trip down there this Thursday. Does anyone know exactly where this is located in Hakone?
THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING THING ANYONES HAS EVER DID ANYWHERE....
The event was canceled.
They couldn't handle the overload of otakus that travelled from all over the country to go to a convenience store in Hakone instead of just around the corner.
Excellent, I will be in Hikone before it closes. I shall endeavour to get more photos!
A long trip for nothing. Hikone is in Kyushu. Hakone is in Kanagawa.
Opposite sides of the country.
Ah my mistake! In haste I missed that.
all i gotta say is: Anime is where the Money is at! :D
Could Artefact make an article based on this: http://en.wikipedia.org:80/wiki/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion#Merchandising and link it to this one?
Sometimes I think Japan is the only place that can fulfill my wild fantasies. Seriously, building a giant gundam, opening anime themed convenience store, and promoting trap manga in the public. Who in the right mind would do these things??? But this is so fucking awesome!
That pic of Rei is fucking hot.
WHERES MY K-ON STORE? I WANT MY MOE BLOBS!
seriously though, Otaku would camp outside a store that sold K-On products
Rather than be inside the store buying...?
LMFAO that made my day
So, these are the stores that appear in Street Fighter Zero.
Thank You.
DON'T MENTION THE WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All is right with the world...
WTF ? :)
I so approve of this I didn't know there was so much Evangelion themed merchandise.
It's not merchandise, they just got eva on everything they already sold.
that's kinda lame...
But So awesome...
>_>
Real, lots of unuseful shit sold there...
And the beberages and foods look unhealthy.
It's a brilliant move, otakus are known to buy even carrots if they have the proper anime characters on their packaging, even if the otaku is strictly a meat eater. Why not cash in on this if they can?
I expect the store to be cleaned out in a matter of weeks when Evangelion devotees visit the store en massed as part of their holy pilgrimage.
There's nothing lame about it. I mean how awesome would it be to have Asuka on everything you buy? Then when you throw away stuff, you could look in your trash and see Asuka and Rei everywhere.
That's the coolest convenience store ever. But of course, with all cool things, it never lasts.
That's fucking lame, dude.
Pity its not a permanent fixture.
ahhh mannn
Maybe they'll make it permanent when they realize that their profit has gone up 500% thanks to the otaku. :P
I'll go there when i'm free.....
I'll work there when I'm free...
I'll work there for free...
I'll rob 'em when i free.
no,i'm serious,i have to a bus though...
I'll nuke them when I'm free...
I'll kill Shinji when I'm... No I'll do it now
rape... rei.... when..free.....
i'll own them when i'm free.. ^^
@ExtrovertedOtaku: Arbeit macht frei?
Correction then:
I'll work there when I'm free FOR FREE!
Whoa I have to go there someday
I luvs me some eva 8)
Yet another reason to go to Japan -- and fast.
Asuka, for the win. :D
"... set to close May 17th ..."
serious? how long has it been opened for? its quite an expensive marketing scheme.... all those products ect....
Now if only they opened one in Nyc. =/
^This. Pile on NYC residents :3
Why so selfish?
They should open one of those everywhere, shit's awesome :)
Do Long Islanders who travel into NYC a lot count? 'Cuz if so, I am so there. ^^
there will never on usa or canada becuz of Tax alot for company and alot lawl for food alimentation cannot be access too oversea place
what?
If I send QUEN some money thru PayPal do you think he'd buy me some Asuka stuff? and send it to me?
Imagine a "K-On!" store!
I approve K-on store as well
I wonder what their toothpicks look like?
Probably a pointy stick made of wood.
Shaped like a Lance of Longinus...
[stunned by it all] I just wanted a beef jerky and a mt dew wtf it is awesome, though
Oh god, this is incredibly awesome. If I could, I wuold probably spend whole days there, buying every single item.
Lawson was already my konbini of choice for whenever I was in Kyoto, but it seems I won't be able to see this one in time unfortunately.
Pic 22 looks like an entry plug tampon XD
Any Boa or Yebisu beer?
Imagine a supermarket chain like Tesco or Walmart only that it would look like this - O.M.G.
awesome. I'd that convenience store.
I'm soo gonna go there someday...
i have got to go there sometime in my life
OMG that is so amazing Eva store!!
They even sell Eva manga
